Shave of the Day Thread - 2018

They really need to start packing Dr Jon in plastic containers.

I mentioned the NEW with an Israeli platinum blade in another thread and after tonights shower I thought "why not? It's been a while". Just did a neck shave, it's so easy it's like cheating with this combo.
I got rid of my favourite NEW head with the red and black set so I pulled a grotty one out the pile. The head was pretty stuffed so I rubbed it back with autosol until almost copper - rather have something 'clean and smooth' than too patchy. The guard is like original gold though and a quick wipe did no harm.
Found some old eshave soap that worked suprisingly well.

Brush: semogue 1305
Soap/Cream: eshave
Razor: Gillette NEW ball end
Blade: super platinum (Israelis)

I might look into replating it one day as I'll never part with my old ball end NEW

E:
I'd trade it in for a solid handle 3 pce Brit NEW any day of the week, but don't tell my ball end that because the handle might start cracking ;) I do have a brit NEW but it came with a bent tooth and I broke it trying to straighten it. I brought it out recently to see if usable/sell-able but it's now got a bent tooth right in the middle! How did that happen in storage? Brit NEWs look very nice but seems like the comb/ teeth are made of cheese unlike the US ones

Call me crazy but I like a razor with a bit of brassing.

Date: 20 January 2018

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Brush:- Maseto 2 Band Finest Badger Beehive 30/55mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Route 66 ~ Rum Runner
Razor:- GEM Micromatic Clog-Pruf
Blade:- GEM Personna SS PTFE Coated #1
Post-shave:- Thayers Witch Hazel / Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic
Fragrance:- L'eau D'issey Pour Homme

Yay the clogpruf!
If you have problems with that SE razor like sticky did with a modern one, I'll be happy to "refund" you.
I think you are mistaken, I have had no problems with my modern SE (Starling) I like it! I think it was Speedy whose Starling was defective.
That said, I have had GSEAD for a while and I do like a Micromatic

Brush: RazorRock 400
Razor: Timeless Bronze
Blade: Wilkinson Sword (Germany)
Soap: APR Fresca
Pre: warm water
Post: Shower / Alum + Suavecito Vanishing Cream

Long awaited shave with the Timeless Bronze and first impressions were quite good. A truely well machined, gorgeous razor that reminded me of my RazorRock Mamba in efficency and presentation (not necessarily a bad thing). Matched it up with the Wilkinson and after the first pass things went well, then the next 2 passes I felt irritation and ended up with minor razor rash and the odd nick  It would've been worse if not for the slick lather from the Fresca soap (man it smells delicious:happy:) but in time I look forward to experimenting with different blades till I find a suitable match. A smooth and great daily shaver but I look forward to seeing whether Timeless introduce more base plate options as 0.38mm is a tad too mild for my course beard. Disappointed with the blade over hang but a sexy razor never the less :D Happy shaves gents :)

Razor: RazoRock Old Type OC
Blade: Personna Blue
Brush: Maseto 26mm silvertip
Soap: Maggards London Barbershop
Post: APR Suitably Attired Australian AS splash
Fragrance: Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme EDT

It was my first time to use an open comb razor, and it wasn't bad at all. I think my technique has improved a lot from when I first started wet shaving, and this helped me with using a different type of DE. I'm starting to get curious about the SE razors, so that could lead me into a whole different AD altogether

Oops, sorry. I second guessed myself. I thought it was speedy at first, and even went back to edit your name in because my brain said sticky because I remembered the sabbatical breaking when you bought it.

Gillette Platinum Plus (8 shaves on it), Fatboy, B&M Ferox, Plissitane.

For something different, went with the Dapper Dragon scale polish. Nice stuff, but needs to be used sparingly. Nice menthol hit on it without being too much, and the bulk of it is Aloe. Scent hung around most of the day.

Razor: Vintage Wilkinson Sword 'Sticky'
Blade: Vintage Wilkinson Sword Premium Chromium blade (8)
Brush: Tony Forsyth PC LE Platypus shaving brush
Soap/Cream: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" Shave Soap
Aftershave: Australian Private Reserve (APR) Aqua di Sydney Aftershave
Cologne: Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio Pour Homme

Great start to the day - who needs the SV aftershave!

Even took some Lather Shots - the mugs makes such a difference!

That brush is getting a good run for its money @Mark1966 although it looks like it could do with a clean or a buff around the rim, part way down
Cheers
Tony

Mate - this soap is ever lasting :ROFLMAO: Its like the frigging "Magic Pudding" - cut a slice and it grows back :p

Don't worry mate, I already have another tin my my cart at TSW to PIF you when it is done ;)

That brush is getting a good run for its money @Mark1966...

Tony - yeah it is at the moment!

With my original purchase still sitting in its case untouched by water -

I had to do some catching up with this one!

...although it looks like it could do with a clean or a buff around the rim, part way down

What? I never knew these brushes were prissy little princesses!

Nothing a hand polish with a fine agent shouldn't take care of.
Curious what mediums you use to polish btw :)

Fridays SOTD
  • Pre - Original Source Mango shower gel
  • Razor - Schick Krona gold
  • Blade - Australian vintage Kmart with a years irregular use upon it (yes you read that correctly, this sucker has been providing me shaves on average of once a week for about a year now)
  • Brush - Stirling Kong synth
  • Soap - Shaver Heaven Arctic Mango
  • After - Soap Commander unscented
Glad I loaded up the Krona for a run, a nice enjoyable shave.
SH just works, even this vegan version, if you've not tried one, you're doing yourself a disservice.
SC is separating into solids and liquid, even after shaking the bottle.

Saturdays SOTD
  • Pre - Aldi seasonal release Bath soap
  • Razor - Schick Krona gold
  • Blade - Retired the Kmart for a new vintage Wilkinson Sword
  • Brush - WolfWhiskers - Black Orchid handle with Manchurian
  • Soap - Black Ship Grooming Shiver Me Timbers
  • After - Australian Private Reserve Lightning Ridge
  • Hair - The Holy Black high shine original pomade
Enjoyed the Krona that much, it got a repeat run and reminder of how far my echnique has evolved to now find this mild razor enjoyable, rather than inefficient.
It was time to retire the Kmart blade ( I estimate 50-60 shaves on it )
Don't see too many WolfWhiskers with natural hair outside of Murica, which is a pity.
SMT is a nice mild minty menthol soap, ye tot me at least, nothing special, unlike APR's Lightning Ridge, which I've frequently been reaching for.
THB Pomade is hands down THE best hair product I've tried.
It works, smells decent and leaves my hair so damned smooth after rinsing it out that I don't feel the need to use anything else, with exception of maybe their superhold that I'm yet to try.

Brush: PAA, Rocket
Soap: B&M, Cologne Russe
Razor: PAA, Starling / ER, Streamline
Blade: Gem SS
Post : Cologne Russe

I like the Starling and can get a good shave from it but today I put it up against the Streamline and there is no competition.
It's a fundamental build design thing and you just can't beat the original concept with a three piece design.
