And we’re off!
This is the kit that has been cobbled together for my first straight razor shave.
Omega Alum stick- probably going to need this, styptic pencil also on stand by.
Dr Bronner’s shave soap peppermint- ticks all of the ethical boxes, not sure about the shave boxes,Ii’ll find out soon enough,
1092 (Mensbiz) boar brush- it’s a brush, would have preferred horse but that was not to be.
Veg tan Roo tail strop- complete with homemade handle- “everyone cuts up their first strop” decided to go very cheap with this one, got three more strips when this one is done in.
An Op Shop soup mug- should make a decent shave bowl...
Last but not least the razor:
Brand: T.R. Cadman & Sons
This Bengall has had a repair to the spine creating a French point
Size: 6/8"
Stamps & Etchings: BENGALL
Scales: Black celluloid
Wedge: White celluloid
Pins: Original nickel silver
Washers: Original nickel silver
Age: 1890-1965, closer to the 1965 end of manufacture for this blade

After the recent comments from @Tony Forsyth (see here) the Platypus refused to come out and play - the Jubilee is not a bad substitute though!

It was noticable, however, how small the Jubilee is compared to the Platypus. In fact, I'd have to say that my whole lathering technique has changed used the larger brush so much recently. I've always been a small brush guy but having adjusted to a larger brush it is interesting moving back. I can see why those used to larger brushes hate the smaller ones now. We will see where I end up!

I like the Starling and can get a good shave from it but today I put it up against the Streamline and there is no competition.
It's a fundamental build design thing and you just can't beat the original concept with a three piece design.

I agree @Sticky - (without even trying the Starling), the loading mechanism on the GEMs is easier and faster also.

Post: Jojoba Oil
Very happy with the MkIII. Had a good run with the Voskhod in the New this morning for a fairly easy DFS. I'll try it in a couple of other razors but at least I know it's got a home with the New. Nice combo this morning.

You gents would hate to see my pre-load, or indeed any of the Adelaide crew. What's in that tub is not even 1/3 of enough for a decent lather.


A collective cheer will be heard throughout P&C when you vanquish that seemingly eternal "Anne Bonny" @Snooze let me tell you!!

Post-Shave: Alum, Stirling Bay Laurel Witch Hazel, Australian Emu Oil​

A wonderful and very enjoyable Sunday shave - the new Shavemac brush is just sensational and produced fantastic Mystic Water lather in absolutely no time and the BBS-1/Voskhod resulted in a close and super smooth shave.

A lovely green shave today before my daughter's birthday. The Soviet era Lux is a smooth yet efficient take on the Tech using this stainless Russian red and white Gillette blade. Being pressed stainless steel, the Lux has much more heft than the aluminium Techs around when this was made. I'm impressed. The top cap is much more like an Old Style in its shape which might assist in efficiency and tight tolerances mean blade alignment is a no brainer. The stories were true - this is a very decent den acquisition. A two day growth was BBSed in far less time than a Tech would have.

The BST PAA aftershave is a nice match for OSP Fougere scent wise. I really like the fragrance of this Proraso cologne but it is primarily a skin scent after the first 2 hours. Very much a cologne, @todras . The vetiver starts small but becomes dominant in the drydown which makes it slowly move away from the Pino-esque opening. It starts Italian and then strolls north :)

This is a nice all round shave used and had all but the soap

I cannot wait for my 32mm Sabini M&F Polo to land, these days I am even finding the 26mm a bit on the lean side!

I don't hate small brushes at all, I just find them a complete pain in the neck to load as I enjoy using a very rich and voluminous lather. Aside from the luxury and enjoyment of this method I also do this in a obviously futile and vain attempt to deplete my idiotically large soap collection.
