Resin Cast Shaving Brush Handles Made in Oz

It's Knot all that easy (Pardon the pun) to drill the socket after the handle is made though as this means the finished handle needs to be held in the chuck of the lathe increasing risk of damage to the handle not to mention creating centering issues for drilling. I am not sure what other handle makers do to overcome these issues?
Cheers

A lot of people that produce brushes do one of two things.

They either make the brush to what they think it should be, and sell it as such (e.g. they pick the knot e.g. plug width, socket width and depth) and hope that people buy it (Paladin, Morris and Forndarn w/Lee Sabini, Brad Sears Shaving, Elite Razors, Simpson, Thater etc.).

Or you have those that focus around the knot, and then turn the handle to match (like Shavemac, Envy Shave, Doug Korn, Rudy Vey, Wolf Whiskers, Wilborg Shaving etc.) where they get the knot first, and build the handle around it.

There's a level of trust with the major established guys like Paladin, Rudy Vey, Shavemac etc. where you can tell them the criteria you want out of a brush and trust their advice (e.g. you ask for a dense fan knot, with no scritch/scratch but good splay and backbone). Now, the only way to know what all that means is to see it in action :) We'll chat, but I might even try to organise a Brisbane meet up with some of the members and Chrissy drinks?

Meet up! Great idea.

I will be down on the 27th. Maybe we can work it in?

If I were you Tony, I'd definitely always wait for the actual knot, before turning the brush...even very well experienced people I know do it like that...

Whixh came first, the handle or knot?
Also, no need for exacting others handles.
For example, I will not own a Chubby, as the handle is far too small length wise for my liking.

Thanks @Korbz for your detailed explanation, I am starting to get my head around some of it now with heaps of research time being spent looking at other makers, what they offer, how they do it and even watching some YT video's.
It would also be great to catch up at a Brisbane meet so keep me posted on that one.
Cheers

What knot maker would people recommend if I was going to purchase a knot and send to @Tony Forsyth to build a handle around? I imagine the knots on Fleabay would not be recommended. I've never bought a knot so would appreciate some advice from the many brush gurus here.

Shavemac would be my recommendation although I hear TGN (The Golden Nib) are also a good choice from what I hear. No personal experience there.

Shavemac would be my top choice, but they are extremely expensive. Envy White from Nathan Clarke or a Manchurian from Elite Razors would be almost as good, very consistent and far cheaper.

Great, thanks guys - will look into it. i think my Wolf Whiskers brush uses the TGN knot.

Was that a leak :D

@Sxot The colours in these photographs are correct compared to the video, The colour mix looks awesome!!
Cheers
Tony.
