You are spot on @Batch300 on single colours engraving directly onto the handle does appear to work very well but with multi colours it needs to be colourfilled and then its a case of what colour lolI like badge/coin for multi-color brushes.
- engraving on ivory/butterscotch is highly readable, engraving readability on a dark red/ light blue handle is a challenge
- allows for user supplied coins/badge
Some artisans with badges are Wolf Whiskers and Mervyn Cadman
@Snooze I think you might be right and certainly no offence taken. That is why I am asking for all your valued input as users of the brushes. I thought it looked a little busy too, but I had to start somewhere.@Tony Forsyth I also like the engraved logo instead of the "coin" or "badge" - can look a bit tacky and risk of coming off.
Please don't take offence but I also think initials "TT" might sounds/look better instead of the full words "T's Turnings" and I would drop the brush logo.
Maybe "TT - Australia" ??
Just sayin...
@Cris I'm with you Cris, if it was my brush handle I would have it made without any markings on it as I believe to an extent that it spoils the clean handle look even if it is on the bottom.@Tony Forsyth Personally I prefer it to be completely plain and untouched. I would prefer a nice little a5 certificate or something along those lines signed by the maker which would allow the purchaser to sell or pass
On to family etc knowing it is the real
McCoy!
Best of luck tony can't wait to get mines sorted!
Cheers
Cris
Hi @Sxot,Shavemac typically fills engraving with either white or black depending on the colour of the handle. Check out their website for many examples.
I prefer engraving to be on the side but that requires more advanced (three axis) machinery to do. It also requires the program to be altered depending on the handle diameter or else the depth changes as you go across. The base is simple and does not require the third axis.
As to the buttons. My first thoughts were the resolution was too low. The engraving needs to be done with a finer tip.
I like having the makers mark on there for many reasons. It could be made as an option so clients are free to choose logo or no. A logo on the base also goes a long way to make for a clean visage of the handle, but keep the mark on there.
Hi @Sxot,
Yes I have pondered through all the other makers marks @Sxot but still to see something that looks the part. The Engraving equipment is not really an issue for me as I have a large cnc router with a 2.2kw spindle 4 axis, 2 x 100w lasers and 3 different purpose rotary devices to choose from and 3 lathes to turn the handles on Programs and software are no issue either. What I am trying to do is find out what is the preference for users of the brushes. Me I do not want to spoil the look of my brush handles but if the general consensus is an engraved makers mark then I would be more than happy to do that
Thank you very much for your feedback and for being one of our very early customers
Cheers
Tony
and that's not it all. Whats that saying ?? He who dies with the most tools wins ;-) Cheers TonyThat's easy then... just ask the customer what they want (custom orders) and do it on a per-order basis. Even off custom engraving. For stocked brushes, just do what you like.
And wow... some workshop!

Hurry up and get it done!
Again, in case you all missed it - you might just want to wait before you jump.
