I'm still around- life in general has just been busy with work / other hobbies / 7 month old depriving me of sleep etc.

@JugV2 I'm glad the holder is still serving you well. Next time I'll send it with an instruction manual haha.
It's a little piece of Australiana mate, I love it. My cleaner needs the instruction manual, not me lol.

I've made a few other items since:

-Headphone stand. This was from a hardwood fence post that I was cutting up for firewood. Much too nice to burn.
-A man cave! Well, this isn't finished yet but its getting there. Could probably do a thread on this if people like reading build logs etc.

On topic, I've had an extended run using TOBS Sandalwood and my Colonel x2l. A reliable, luxurious, hard to beat combo.

Well life is never dull when I try to shave after several days growth. Herself had "tidied up" the bathroom which meant brushes soaps and razors had all been put in new and exciting locations. Found a razor, a brush and my tub of Tabac and did the lather thing. Now the growth was a bit long so I wasn't expecting miracles on the first pass. Still I had a Slim in the hand which had an English Wilkinson in it so how could I go wrong. Took the first stroke down the cheek - "Holy snappin assholes Batman" the hair was being pulled out by the roots. Then I twigged - I had 2 Slims in the bathroom and foolishly thought when SWWISBF moved the brush and soaps she would have put the razor in the same place - Wrong. Searched and found the Slim I was after and all went well. (Note to self - build my own bathroom).

So you shaved with a razor with no blade in it?

I have a Merkur 34C. It has a Permasharp Super in it. This Permasharp is just about old enough to have to shave.

This Permasharp is still brilliant.

My name is SyD and that was my story.

Nope just a very old tired blade - the downside of keeping two identical razors in the bathroom - could have opened it up to see what was in it I suppose, but I was down on end of teh house and the glasses up the other.

Well. Shave ended ok. Old str8. Had been honed and stropped. Not sharp. Stopped on cotton and Crox . Not sharp. Barber hone. Not sharp.
Double grit Barber hone. Ok. 5-6-7 passes, used
DUTCH De Vergulde Hand shave soap. Longer than I expected but final product ok.

Same str8 as on the 17th. Looks like it's going back into the bin till it remembers how to shave(;-(

Loads a shaves since last I posted in this thread.

Lots of different brushes-Mostly reknotted jobbies. After all there's nothing like using your own handiwork .
Soaps-Tabac stick, SIM stick (Sir Irisch Moos to you poor ignorant slobs who haven't got one of these. And no, I'm not selling any of mine!), Sandalwood puck (got it from @Drubbing and can't remember the make. Good stuff although I can't see what all the fuss is about sandalwood)
Blades-ASCO? No idea where this came from. Was probably one that was meant to be assessed as a worst blade in the world candidate. Just managed to squeeze out of being categorized as such. Spoiler on shave No lots and lots. GEM SE blade
Razors- SPUD (For you newcomers here that stands for silly plastic utensil device, an acronym coined by @Monsta_AU .....because basically he's not nice...and he's is missing out on one the best types of razors), Ever Ready Featherweight SE.

Having been seriously thrown off course with a load of vintage DE blades, I've neglected SE shaving. It's still scary, because you feel like you're in a scene from some slasher movie, complete with nasty sounding cutting noises. But without doubt one of the closest shave I've had for a long time. My alum stick told me so.

I probably sent you that ASCO blade. I have some Racer brand blades which I could send for comparison - also made by Lord in Egypt. I haven't tried them to be honest and I have more than a few of them.

I've been busier on other things, but here was this morning's shave:
  • Fatboy on 7
  • Gillette 'Malteser' Dark Platinum, shave #4 (and now EOL)
  • Speick cream from tube
  • THE SHEDDER! Smoggie 730HD
Pretty decent WTG+SXTG shave. Small sections of the neck not as smooth as I would like but the fourth shave on the Maltesers always leaves a little to be desired.

Getting annoyed at the shedding of the Smoggie now. It has life left in it but I am losing 4-5 hairs per shave these days. I will find a nice TGN knot to throw in it and send it off to Pete to be reknotted.

Yeah I think you did. I think I've got a racer or two too.

That's an acrylic handle isn't it?

Today's shave...
The smarting is still very much with me.
A friendly tip, ensure other family members do not use the face washer to clean up after using Dencorub! o_O:oops::eek::mad::censored:

Slack with shaving over Easter. Back on the wagon now.

Omega 45 big floppy beast, P160 and Slim with Super Iridium. I didn't like my Gillette Adjustables, but the Slim with the SI is a decent combo. I find it a little easier to wield than the Fatboy, and I like having adjustability for different sections of my face/neck. Little bit of trouble with ingrown hairs around my jawline now that I'm rushed to shave in the mornings.

I don't know if P160 is actually any better than Cella. I always assumed that it was, but it was disappearing when I took up this nonsense so I bought some expecting miracles. It's good, but aside from the scent of Italian cake store, I don't really think it offers any element of superior performance over most halfway decent shaving soaps or creams.

I tried a sample of sandalwood Skin Food. That stuff is like jelly for the skin. A little bit greasy and slick, but very soothing and conditioning. I was surprised by how long the scent lingers too.

P160 was all YKW hype, it's a decent soap, but you're quite right, no better than Cella or any other quality product and there's still plenty to choose from.

It only attained magical and mystic properties the moment it was announced it was being discontinued, and the frenzied 'hoarding' started. The news spread to other sites too, and the Chinese Whispers of the fabled P160 was complete. Unsurprisingly, when the buying frenzy wore off, and many missed out, All those 'precious' stocks found their way onto the BB buy sell forums for massively inflated prices. Gentlemen my fkin arse.

The same thing happened with Cade. Someone started a rumour, that it was discontinued, just because their local store didn't have stock in. Despite being denied by Cade HO in France and posted on the same thread (yes, someone emailed them), the shill, buy, and sell wagon started up...

Skin food never impressed me, but MB kept sending samples, so I kept using it and it grew on me. I too found it a bit tacky, but it's a product to use sparingly. Just a biggish pea sized amount will spread and dry smooth.

Hmm late shave today, was waiting for my ikon OSS.

Whats the verdict.....

Am disappointed honestly. I like my merkur futur and 38c much more as they give me superior shaves :(

Build is amazing tho! Most beautiful razor i own now. Better than the feather too. But the 38c just seems to be what works best on my face....

Todays shave was a quick one.
I took the astra out of the ikon and placed it in my merkur futur.

Cella with a brush and then single pass shave! The astra was tugging a bit, maybe that's why the ikon felt a bit rough.

Have loaded a feather into the ikon for tomorrow. Will test if it glides then.

The 38c has lifted my expectations!

34C
Schlicky #3
Palmy gut 2,2
Semogue 830
alum
ASG

Easy shaving. My Semogue splayed out during use. I didn't contract cancer :)
