Came very close to giving up on the soap when I first started. It wasn't providing any slickness or protection or so I thought until I figured out how to lather it up properly.

Now I think this will be a permanent fixture in my soap rotation.

Soap: Johnny Goodsir - TMBR
Brush: Pl'occitane

TMBR - proof that scent can make up for performance. Still waiting on @Anthony to replicate this scent, and growing a little impatient... ;)

Hello Wilky, my old friend
I've come to shave with you again
Because a shadow softly growing
Left its stubbles while I was sleeping....

Razor: Wilkinson Sword Classic
Blade: Personna SPC
Pre-shave cream: Proraso Sandalwood
Soap: Arko Shaving Stick
Aftershave: Aqua Velva Ice Sport

A BSS in the purest tradition :D

... And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the bounds of shaving.

With sincerest apologies to Simon and Garfunkel :)

Pre: Occams
Soap: Shaver Heaven - SAM
Brush: Duke 2 - Best
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Razor: Merkur 34c
Post: Proraso Red

You know... I think I am getting a reaction from this soap which is a real shame... great soap as you all know. Up high on my cheeks I get a burn where the razor has not been so it's not that. There isn't any menthol in this is there???

The Duke... I keep telling myself to like this brush which is red flag. I went back to Shaver Heaven to make it easy for the Duke to do well and it didn't until I changed my technique. I had only been using light pressure whilst face lathering but today in desperation I pressed harder splaying the bristles out. That changed everything, lathered much better, much more and gave up the lather well too. It was more of a scrub, than a brush but not what I would consider being rough on the brush pushing hard, just harder than I am used to or would like. Possible knot density here requires it? Certainly my smaller knotted simpsons badgers don't, nor the Semogue 1800. Still not sure if I like it or just want to ... keep an eye on the BST, you might find it there soon.

Blade was great, easy BBS with very little clean up. Here too I decided maybe (from fear of cutting from the feathers) I am applying too little pressure (ie none at all). I put some light pressure on the handle with this blade and I was rewarded. I'll use it for another couple of shaves, but then I think I might go back to Polsilver and try them with a similar pressure. Such is the learning curve. A couple of hours of lingering irritation seems to be the norm these days.

Manna Monday

Brush:
Semogue Mistura
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Manna de Sicilia
Razor: Gillette NEW LC
Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum (supplied by @King of Authentic Shave )
After: Thayers and Myrsol Blue
@King of Authentic Shave sent out a new blade from Dorco called the Prime Platinum for a test run and review. A small but diverse team has been assembled. Reviews will appear very shortly. It's my first shave with a Dorco blade and I'll share my thoughts later in the week. 2 packs have been added to the Blade Sampler bank.

In contrast to a couple of disagreeable shaves last week, this week I was back on track with a bang. Saponificio never fails to disappoint and it was applied with a brush that I just get fond of more and more with age (the brush, not me ) . I can't sing the praises of that 80 year old Gillette NEW open comb high enough. It delivers a sterling shave without any fuss. Myrsol Blue perfectly complimented the scent of the Manna de Sicilia soap. All round it was an enjoyable and satisfying start to the day.

No photo but it did happen.

Shaved a bit earlier tonight so I could use the Tanifuji 1958 5/8" Straight.
My new soap is excellent for the straight razor as it holds water well, doesn't dry out and has good glide.
I scuttled tonight and used my Vie Long blond horse. A very good brush.
This new soap creates a good bowl or face lather depending on the brush.
As it is unscented a drop of Tea Tree oil is enough to give a totally different feel.

Great shave - almost BBS with 1 and a half passes - almost :).
There really is nothing comparable to a good straight shave with a blade you honed yourself to scary sharp.

I second this. Scent makes this my No 1 soap even the performance lacks. Performance is OK, just not worthy of a No 1 soap rating; BUT THAT SCENT !!!

So that is TWO people I have to kill and claim this soap from their graves ...

My tub of TMBR is coming with me. I already have drawn plans for my coffin with a stand for a 7 day straight set and display cabinet for my tub of JGS.
So now @Mark1966 not only has to kill you, but dig up your grave as well... [emoji13]

Same old set up but cracked out the Orange Chill this morning. Talk about menthol! Don't know if I could handle the glacial range.

Such a refreshing cold feel & literally does smell like a frozen orange.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Vintage NOS French Gillette Super Stainless (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'The Duke'
Soap/Cream: D R Harris Marlborough
Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve

This blade is fantastic - I love it, I wish I had more ...

The Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve -

6 fl oz of wonder. Not a scent for everybody. Hard to describe but having the usual Pinaud olfactory roller coaster as you open the bottle, apply and then it settles down. Long lasting 'masculine' fragrance. No fancy bottles, just that classic label. Only $US8.29 (plus tax) when I purchased the bottle in NYC back in 2010. Such great memories of this aftershave.
