yeah thanks.. this is why i have no worries about getting one myself. What does surprise me is that you like a plate that i would consider very mild, i even thought the D was mild and from memory speaking with you in the past we have similar skin and hair growth.. dark and heavy?

I am wondering, do you chase BBS?

Personally i am thinking of getting the E or F plates

I've also liked the C & D base plate and both worked best for me without any irritation. I've stopped chasing BBS otherwise you'll get too many irritation, I'm happy with DFS, that's why I don't get irritation for daily or every second day shave.

Yeah i have a 6S and the last time it got used i was interstate, so there were a lot of variables in those shaves (they were below average), but prior to getting the Karve, i would get comfortable close shaves on the R2, R3 or R4. I always felt that the gap with the R5 was large and would take chunks from my face, so i would always use very carefully. So i ordered the Karve with an A(OC), B and C. After a few weeks i then wanted a D so got both D plates. I'll probably consider selling or trading my A and maybe B plates eventually, but not right now.

thanks mate.. i enjoy shaving with R5 & R6 plates and usually the latter with no issues.. so i reckon the E or F is what i am after with the karve OC. Do you have less hair on your face the next morning when using the karve v the rockwell? i find that is definitely the case when use the Timeless v rockwell.

I have a Rockwell 6c and have played with a Karve briefly.

I found the Karve C-plate to be somewhere between the Rockwell 6c #3 and #4 plates. Obviously it's not an exact science.
When I get myself a Karve of my own (SS?) I will be getting the B/C/D plates to cover my bases. Likely both SB and OC.

Yes much longer stubble earlier in the afternoon when I use the Rockwell.

Soap: Pb Black Spruce
Brush: Semogue 1305
Razor: Kampfe Star
Blade: Kampfe Star Wedge
@Sticky sent me a Kampfe Star razor and some wedge blades to try and hone and have a play with. Had a crack at a Kampfe Star wedge blade first which after inspecting under the scope appears to not have had any attention in a long time.

This was typical of the edge of the blade with no defined bevel and extensive corrosion. Not having had a go at wedge blades before I took probably a too conservative approach with regards bevel setting but thought 'I can always go back for more'. Anyway, ended up with the edge looking like something you could shave with.

Shaved successfully but was on the rough side which I think was the price of being too conservative on the bevel set. Was similar to a shave with a 1912 GEM but because of the open design of the head the resonant sound it made whilst shaving reminded me of the metal fan style leaf rakes for gardening.
So back to the stones for round two.
 
Pre: Hot towel, Pre shave oil (Nico's home brew)

Great job with the blade concidering the condition it started in. Hopefully round two will be a bit smoother. I love the sound of a vintage Lather Catcher doing its thing.

Proraso day today.. been reading a bit about the ol proraso lately so thought why not give it a try. Wasnt impressed last time i used. Super easy to lather up and got a great shave today but still this soap does lack the protection and slickness i am used to resulting in some minor burn.


Pre-shave: Hot Shower + Proraso Green Pre-Shave Cream

The Sandalwood Rose was quite soothing. Sorry to see that sample finished. Either going to have to pick that one up or make something to fill that spot.
No whiskers game to poke their head out for a while. The Asylum is too aggressive for me to use as a daily driver unless I limited passes to 1 or 2 but I love pulling it out for a regular run.

Awesome scent on the soap! Washpool is one of the most underrated soaps out there. They're an Aussie soap maker so I hope more of our community supports them!
