What do you think regarding the soap? I heard rumours that these last ones, like rosa-oud, are even better performers than the older ones.

Brush: Vulfix 403 Mixed
Razor: Schick Adjustable
Blade: Personna Injector
Cream: Ministry of Shave Lemon
A/S: Ministry of Shave Lemon

Crap cream, crap balm. Lousy slickness for the cream with very little cushion and the balm feels incredibly greasy. Doubt I'll be keeping either but I'll try again tomorrow with a different razor.

theme of the day... MENTHOL

Decided to give Katies Bubbles Mile High menthol with a proraso green pre-shave.. What can i say, i absolutely love this stuff, especially as a summer routine. Felt like i had a sheet of ice on my face during the entire shave. The CaD just topped it off... Happy Shaves!!!!

Its identical, the only factor is the EO's which essentially 'superfats' the soap. The Oud is synthetic, but I found both the new formula Vetiver and the Rosa oud to have a great nose, ideal scents for Winter.

Rockwell 6S R2
Personna Lab blue (5)
GFT Rose Cream

Proraso Green Balm + rinse off

Another 3 pass BBS but this is still a harsh blade. I keep expecting it to mellow and it never does. Not my favourite cream but also not bad enough for me to chuck it either...

Brush: Chubby 2 Synthetic
Razor: Pal Injecto-Matic
Blade: Personna Injector
Cream: Ministry of Shave Lemon
A/S: Ministry of Shave Balm

A definite improvement over yesterday's shave but I'm still very unimpressed by the Ministry of Shave products. The cream does a reasonable job but is very much lacking in both slickness and cushion and the post shave is akin to canned foam. The A/S was significantly better today but still felt greasy.

Thanks @todras and @Bozley82 . One of the testers of the rose/oud and vetiver commented that they seemed to be better performers, but of course can be self-suggestion, or just having better shaves, different gears, even the scent can change the perception of a shave? etc. I have been learning from a friend a bit about soap making and it is a super complex world, looks like more than cooking.

My early morning shave today was:

Machine: Timeless 0.95 OC / Feather
Dough Korn / NC Envy White
MdC Agrumes
splash: AP Reserve Suitably attired Australian
EdP: AP Reserve Suitably attired summer

Today has been a very shitty day down here. Almost 40 degrees, smoke everywhere form the fires, a strong hot wind sometimes. I had to pick up some fellows from Hokkaido (they were -5 -10 lately) at 4 pm after having the car all day under the heat, and surprise, the air cooling didn't work. My always reliable, old, Aussie made, Ford Falcon wagon, never did that to me before. I had a really bad time trying to cool it down a bit, but still they almost melt in the car....

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac Silvertip Badger
Soap: Dove Beauty Cream Bar
Razor: ATT SE1 / UFO Tornado
Blade: Schick Proline P-30 (1)
Post: Thursday Plantation Tea Tree & Witch Hazel, CRSW Alcohol-Free American Barbershop Moisturising Aftershave
Scent: Terre D'Hermes

I always try to keep an open mind, so when this facial soap was recommended to me by @RazorPlay at the recent Perth Meet-up, I decided to give it a go. I used my normal prep and loaded a fresh blade to the razor I had been using for the last fortnight, to allow for better comparison. I loaded the soap directly to my wet face as I would with a shave stick, which for me is about a 30 second load. I then hydrated the lather using a reasonably moist brush, adding water as required as I lathered. The lather took longer than a typical shaving soap to form, and I would describe it as thin but very dense. I took my time to ensure that the soap was properly hydrated. The lather felt slick on my face and whilst thin, had a nice sheen. The soap has quite a strong clean "soapy" scent, but pleasant enough.

On the first pass (with the grain), I immediately noticed reduced lubrication or razor glide when compared to most shaving soaps that I use. Not a red flag, but quite apparent. This was accentuated in the across the grain and against the grain passes; not bloodletting, and I could feel the blade cutting nicely, but not comfortable, with some minor irritation after the final pass which was rapidly soothed by a cold water rinse and my normal witch hazel and CRSW aftershave combination.

Having said that, I achieved a BBS result, and as @RazorPlay noted, the post shave is really good and slightly different to my normal shaving soap post shave feeling. I guess I would describe it as an "early onset" pleasant post shave. My face is normally refreshed after application of my post-shave products, then as time passes, my face feels progressively moisturised with a corresponding pleasant skin sensation. Hard to put into words. Anyway, what I noticed with the Dove soap was the onset of this sensation was faster and at least as sustained as my better soaps. I guess this makes sense, given the manufacturer's claim that 1/4 of the soap bar is composed of facial moisturiser. I note that Lactic Acid is quite high up on the ingredients list, and this may be a factor, as my face responds well to products containing Lactic acid (e.g. Myrsol Plastic Shave aftershave splash).

The soap felt good on my face throughout the shave, but the lack of lubrication for me was telling. It reminded me a lot of the French Osma soap; lather not that flash, and shave not that comfortable, but a good end result.

I would summarise by saying that the lack of lubricity would preclude me from regularly using this soap for shaving, but I would have not hesitation using it as a standby option, for example if I was traveling and couldn't access shaving soap.

Pre-shave: Hot Shower
Brush: Tony Forsyth P&C LE Platypus brush
Soap/Cream: Squadron Soap / APR Australians All shaving soap
Razor: Vintage Ever-Ready Heavy Flat Top SE razor
Blade: GEM SE blade (11)
Post-shave: Squadron Soap / APR Australians All shave lotion
Fragrance: N/A

No choice really today - this great combination was the obvious go to!

Glad I did as it is a wonderful product - with just a hint of menthol. Forecast is for 40 degrees here in CBR (that is 104 for those in the US) and it is over 20 already before 7.
