So, I have to admit that I fell right into the FOMO crowd for this one. After seeing this get sold in minutes for the first drop at Maggards, to every man and his two dogs waxing lyrical about it online, as soon as it was available at Top of the Chain, I pulled the trigger on it. Now, I know it has petitgrain in it (not a fan), but I was hoping it wasn't the main note. Nope. It's literally all I can smell off the puck. So, I get caught out with this time and time again. DG 88 Chestnut Street, BM Citricuya, CF Santa Paula. I'm a citrus hound, so anything with citrus, I sniffing after like a truffle pig, but petitgrain is my bugbear. Opened the tub and yeow!

That being said, when you lather it up, the green strawberry and the warmth of cinnamon open up slightly and the petitgrain pulls back a little to let the actual fougere scent come out. It's complex and interesting and the longer you have it on your face, the more you start to enjoy the different scent notes as they come through. Not my favourite, though. And no where near as enjoyable as 2021's other darling, Seaforth Sea Spice Lime.

Post: Nivea 2 Phase Post Shave Lotion // Sukin Hydration Biomarine Facial Serum
WTG, ATG, Touchups = BBS

Another very busy week but the biggest highlight has been the stellar shaves using some premium soap samples that perform amazingly!
Hard to choose a winner as only a small sample with great slickness, scent profiles and post shave feel from each...

Stay Safe & Happy Shaves!

Pre-shave: Cold ocean swim 1Km
Brush: Semogue SOC Taj Mistura
Soap/Cream: Squadron Sweetheart
Razor: Smart-Helix Apollo Light (Aggr. plate)
Blade:
Astra SP (1)
Post-shave: Alum block, Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve, Armaf ‘Club de Nuit’
Haven't used the SOC Mistura or an Astra SP for a while, and it was a welcome return for both. The Mistura 50/50 blend of boar and badger is very pleasant on the face, and lathers well.
The Squadron is nearly all gone, but the dregs are performing admirably. The Apollo requires respect but that thin head gets me places that others can't. Spring is in the air and despite being in lockdown life is good, DFS+.

Soap: Soaps by Luna - Fauno
Brush: Omega 10098
Razor: Tanifuji
AS: APR General Ledger
'Caressed' ( @bald as terminology) the Tanifuji on the stones last night. It's very satisfying watching the edge develop under the scope with the Tanifuji. It's such beautiful steel which maintains a pristine edge and mirror finish on the bevel. Finished off with a Jnat which puts more of a 'sand blasted' finish on the bevel then final touch with CBN on nanocloth.

I decided on a laid back ye olde worlde shave with a turn of the last century [1900] shaving scuttle. This is not a well understood item and I confess I may be holding the bull at the wrong end.
Boil a kettle and fill the scuttle through the top. There are about 3 - 5 holes in most old scuttles. As you can see there is a "mouth" on the scuttle and it may have been for soaking a brush but to be really useful the mug part is filled with boiling or very hot water and I'm not sure I want to subject my brush to boiling or near water temperature. Soak your boar in quite warm water and then load your brush with the amount of soap you need to create your lather. With the reservoir at the base full of boiling water place the soap loaded brush upright in the small bowl on the top and let it stand for about 1-2 minutes. There is no water in the bowl. This bowl on top is about the size and contour of a bloomed 24 - 28 mm boar or badger. The boar in my shot is 24 mm. Steam rising through the holes will enter the brush to give a wonderful warmth to the brush. Face lather and then place the brush back on the top of the scuttle as I have it in the picture. This will be continuing giving warm lather regardless of the touch ups or passes you do.
The lather was excellent.

Scuttle.
Derby soap grated into a high end :) black plastic container.
Brush is an Omega 24mm
Razor: Gold dollar Spanish point. It now has a great edge and shaves well.
Isopropyl Alcohol splash

That's the way I use an old Scuttle like that and believe its the best way. Some Scuttles also have a handle with a indentation for you to rest your brush on it also so it rests horizontally across the top too.

Nice! I have had one of these bowls in the cart for days now and am thinking of pulling the trigger right now. It looks even better in your pic too. (y)
