I've had a ridiculously busy last couple of weeks, both at work and at home, so I can't be stuffed taking a photo, sorry. I do want to give some feedback on my recent purchases.

On Monday I received my Squadron "The warden" soap and discovered that there is a positive to having to wear masks everywhere. I was getting fantastic wafts of the fabulous scent of the soap for the next hour or so as it was trapped behind the mask. I'm so glad I read all the good feedback on here about this soap as it's fantastic. The lather was amazing, and I'm still learning how to get it right. I'm just using a cheapo brush from Woolies until my new ones arrive. Once that happens I can't wait to see what I can do.

Yesterday my Blue Devil Strawberry Patch arrived. I used it this morning and learned an important lesson. This stuff lathered up so beautifully and smelled so amazing, I'll probably have to refrain from using it early in the morning when I'm still half asleep so that I don't mistake it for some sumptuous Strawberry and Vanilla yoghurt or dessert! Just because it looks and smells like it would taste great, that doesn't mean it will...

Again, the performance was fantastic. I did lots of research and bought MWF as my first soap when I started this caper, and I find it excellent. After my last few shaves with these two local products, I think the MWF is going to last me a long time!

I also had a Eureka moment this morning. Craig included a tuck of Voskhod blades - thank you very much - and I used one in my RR German 37. At first, I found it quick tuggy and not very pleasant, and I was thinking about changing blades after the first pass WTG. I decided to at least finish the shave to be fair. The second pass ATG wasn't great either, but when I came to the touch-up I was very pleasantly surprised at how I was able to work over my neck area and clean it up, and it still felt good. I'd come to the point of almost accepting that my neck was always either going to be irritated or not shaved smooth because of my experiences so far. I had to go to work so I didn't have the time to get it perfect, but it was very good, and I had no irritation at all. Woohoo! I'm now thinking that I need a fairly mild razor with a very smooth blade for the touch-up work after doing the heavy-lifting with the 37.

I also need some more Squadron and Blue Devil soaps, and I've got my eye on some Salt Lake ones too. Then there's the aftershave... Bloody rabbit hole! :wacky:

Those Voskhod blades are underrated, probably because the first shave with them can be fairly awful. (But people put up with that from the much more expensive Feathers, so go figure.) They're never super-sharp, but with an efficient razor they can be a nice shave, and some people can get a lot of mileage out of them.

Hey @Zeke what brush(es) have you got coming?
May have to jump on the Lupo train with @StratMan for that daily ATG shave without irritation
A Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole synthetic, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003236596070.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.730f4c4dUL2Rhr and a synthetic 24mm from vshod.com.

I'm a very interested follower of @StratMan and his Lupo journey. Because of the good review @Errol gave it, I've ordered a Yintal bronze razor. Once I've tried that I'll probably resist the temptation for a while, then some enabler on here will convince me I need to try something else! :)

One could very well be a one-razor man* with the Lupo 72 and 95 base plates. I have both and though I haven’t had that many shaves with them it’s not hard to think “these would do me for life” after each shave.

*this man does not exist.

@Zeke don’t listen to him, because, @rhodes96 is an evil voodoo curse soap enabler. He keeps on encouraging others to keep on getting MOAR!!!! soaps, otherwise, you’ll never escape from your rabbit hole until you RIP.

It sounds like you are onto a good thing. I myself will hopefully be embarking on my journey into Squadron products before the year is up too. I have already picked out a few scents I am interested in from Squadron.

I have to agree with everything about Blue Devil Soaps, they are pretty fantastic. Craig kindle also included a tuck of Voskhod blades too and as if you my last recollections of them a few years ago when they were all the rage were exactly like yours although I do feel they have some quality control issues but thats just me. What is more than likely is the blade coating causes more of an issue than anything and as it wears down the blade settles in becomes much better but having said that its a blade I will have to revisit again as with many others. I settled into a rotation of some of my favourite blades and never really when on the grand tour I proposed for myself so that is something I am eager to do when I get back into it full swing.
I wasn't really a daily shaver as it would always end up into some sort of irritation but I'm hoping I could change that soon which lead me to believe that I could possibly achieve that with a more mild razor and blade combo.

My current experience suggests that Wizamet/Polsilver, Gillette Platinum Blue, Treet Black Beauty (That's a very subjective one though) are very smooth shavers but that's all that comes to mind right now but I am sure there are many more that I had great experiences with.

I too will be looking at getting some Salt Lake soaps when I can afford it. I have looked at them for a number of years to but just never got around to them.

If you are looking at Australian Soaps Whispers from the Woods are a good option too. I have noticed that their Sandalwood soap (Santalum) smells very similar to Blue Devil Soaps Sandalwood which is not a bad thing but if you already have that one from Blue Devil Soaps then I'd suggest looking at a different scent from Whispers from the Woods.
I used Santalum fairly regularly and although Whispers from the Woods don't use tallow in their soaps they are pretty darn good. I'd like to buy two other soaps from them in due time also but will have to wait.

Of course don't go too crazy on things like the rest of us. Enjoy what you have until you get reall accustom to them and their performance by then you will have also used them up a fair bit too.

the 72 is amazing but you need a sharp smooth blade and for me so far the nacet is the one for that razor.. in the 95 I like the wizamet/polsilver but loving the 72 more

good luck mate 👍

next move for me was the rapira blade in the 95 lupo, very smooth blade and not too sharp

I had some voskhods which were excellent and got a few from @Holiday which he kindly donated but those were rough, quality control?

Pre: Hot Shower
Brush: Yaqi Everest
Soap: SJOL Black Pepper & Lime
Razor: Gillette British Rocket
Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (3)
Post: Nivea Skin & Stubble

My vintage journey continues. The stars must have aligned tonight; great lather, a smooth sharp blade despite 3rd use and a forgiving, mild but efficient razor just made for a quick but enjoyable shave. The two cons were a head that clogged quick and the skinny handle made for some awkward moments where my fingers almost contorted itself trying to shave with some finesse. Makes me want an Aristocrat now. Oh wait.. I just got a Parker 87R

Interesting about the QC - I could be completely wrong, but I was given to understand the Voskhods came from the same St Petersburg factory as Wizamet and all those Gillette blades. But there again, I suppose it's a bit weird that one factory produces so many different blades (and how?)

Voshkod and Rapira are produced in the JSC Mostochlegmash factory in Moscow.

They are like the poor man's Gillette. No appologies for the analogy. In general the blades are not up to the standard of those produced in the PPi St Petersburg factory. Some people can get them to work for them, others cannot.

For myself I am in the others cannot camp. ( that's being kind) You will never ever see me use one in a Sotd post.

Forgot to add I loved how the bronze head retains the warmth from rinsing.

I tried a new to me honing routine yesterday and while a sample size of one shave is a bit small I have my new methodology.
Also tonight for the very first time in 55 years of shaving I rubbed a soap stick on my face and lathered with a damp brush.
At the twilight of my years I discover the wonder of a Derby stick caressing the manly outline of my less than perfect face. Wonders will never cease.

Soap - Derby stick lovingly prepared by peeling back the paper wrapper and dipping in hot water. There is so much to learn.
Brush - Very low loft badger that held just enough for a single pass and a couple of touch ups. Excellent soap to water ratio.
Razor - Dr. Balfanz 6/8" Ultra thin hollow. Unbelievably sharp. So keen.

I love shaving sticks and I'm convinced that the direct massaging effect of the stick kelps raise the hair and thus contributing to a closer shave.

Isopropyl alcohol splash to finish.

As manly as it gets(y)
