Happy birthday @Holiday.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. So my daughter who is turning 5 in a fortnight still asks me to pick her up and carry her.

Last night when she did I said to her "Aren't you lucky your daddy is still strong enough to carry you?"

"Yeah but you're still old..."

:cautious:

Out of the mouths of babes....

On to the shaves...

I tried and utterly failed to discern any recognisable hint of the scent of mother's milk in this soap. 😐 Fortunately it's still pleasant enough, so I'll have no problem finishing this sample.

SOTD – Mon 16 Jan 2023

The Gear:

  • Pre Shave: Lucky Tiger Liquid Shave Cream
  • Brush: Dscosmetic “9Sky” with 24/54 APShave Cashmere
  • Soap: Barrister and Mann (B&M) - Nordost, Omnibus base
  • Bowl: Yaqi Black ABS “Duke”
  • Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89
  • Blade: Dorco Prime HQ (3)
  • Splash: TN Dickinsons Witch Hazel with menthol&tea tree oil
  • Balm: Lucky Tiger Vanishing Cream
  • After Shave: Lucky Tiger Bay Rum AS Lotion
  • Moisturiser: Nivea Men Creme (Face-Body-Hands)

Shave Result: The B&M Omnibus base is a Top Line performer IMO including excellent post shave feel, the lather produced is high density rich and yogurty. To me the scent is a rich Orange aroma with background of light caramel type sweetnesss, scent strength 6/10. Wonderful smooth irritation free shaves all last week with the Edwin Jagger DE89 & Dorco Prime HQ blade.

I agree! This razor is one of those ones that can end it all. The lite plate arrived today so needless to say I am shaving tomorrow asap. The quality of craftsmanship on those brush handles has reached another level. Definitely hitting every single correct note as far as I am concerned. Simply STUNNING!

I was thinking of a dead sea shave for my next one too as it's perfect for this kinda heat.

Hahaha! Cheeky bugger!!

Nice!!
Two razors I wish I had bought.
Blutt with that striking handle is the chefs kiss and don't get me started on that Dart! I regret no picking one up now. I feel like there is a theme with Blackland razors, they are just all so good you have that curious itch to buy another one and this Dart is such an underdog I cannot help but feel that a lot of people have not discovered the trick to using it correctly yet. Although it was designed to be a price conscious razor I personally enjoy its design. The question is... Are these Dart razors as aggressive as people say they are? I heard the same thing about the blackbird and I completely disagree with that statement.

What about the scent, how does it smell?
Not much scent left @SpeedyPC when I first opened it had a bit of a moldy wood scent and I thought I could smell a slight hint of woodsy florals but that has since disappeared along with the moldy scent. Have been using the left overs to lather outside of bowl and lid and surprisingly coming up nice and clean.

Same again tonight but watched over by a stumpy tailed gecko that's been driving the cat crazy from outside the window

I had wondered how you'd get along with it. I mostly stop at 7 shaves, partly because it's easier to keep track that way, and partly because if I go beyond 8 I find it's a little sub-par. But that's with a full 3-pass head and face shave daily, so that's a lot of acreage for one little blade to cover.

I've no need to push my blades. I've got enough for about 20 years, and when I'm 80 I might have different priorities. If I make it that far.

I think I could squeeze around 10 shaves per blade from the proline, however, the blade edge may come to an end on the 9th shave.... I don't know yet, just have to wait and see how the edge feels.

From what I remember when I first used Yardley back in the late 70s, the scent was never that strong in the first place. Certainly nothing like the bombs that the Americans or Italians produce. I vaguely remember the Yardley scent being a light lavender over woodsy florals, but lav doesn't have much staying power. The one I'm using right now has a lovely scent, but a couple of others I have now might best be described as unscented. But I'll know better when I lather them up all in good time...

Edit: I'm glad I'm on a sabbatical this year, I've just spotted this at Vintage Blades. Something I have not seen in 40 years. But even my thriftless nature would baulk at the $339 price tag. My Yardley obsession has some limits...

I ordered this cream last year for carrying around in my wash-bag while travelling. I would have preferred a stick, but at the time they weren't available locally. I've never used cream from a tube before, so figured I should try it out before I hit the road. I won't say this is better than the hard soap, but it's very nice indeed. (y) (y)

yeah this brush is the most stunning I have, just gorgeous and looks even better in person. This and purple haze are my outright favourites

What's this about the lite plate then? first I have heard of it

@Rusty Bridges quick google came up with this

Who the Blackbird Lite Is For

  • If you tried the Blackbird and found it to be too much blade feel and efficiency.
  • If you’ve wanted a Blackbird, but were nervous about blade feel.
  • If you love the Blackbird, but your skin can't handle it every day.

phew!!!! I personally love the blade feel on this razor as it helps me with the angle of attack and certainly dont find it too efficient, but rather perfect.. so happy to say I can now relax as I dont believe i need the lite

but would love to hear your thoughts on it.. do you have the standard SS plate for the BB to compare against?
