I'm off for a few weeks away shortly and will need to shave while I'm away. I cannot stand the thought of having to escort to a cartridge, nor do I trust QANTAS enough to not lose my Weber. So I wondered on a decent travel razor.

My initial thinking is a ubiquitous vintage like a Tech or SS (quite replaceable) or even a cheap modern…or even keeping it light with a modern bakelite.

What do you guys reckon?

Well if they lose your Weber they'll lose the entire suitcase it was in. Compared to that losing a Weber isn't the worst of your worries. And with the insurance money you'll be able to buy a new Weber. Just take the Weber.

Ditto.

But why have it in your checked in luggage?! I only have my razors, soaps and assortment in my hand luggage. It's the razor blades alone that have to be in the checked in luggage.

The only reason it may be held up in the X-ray machine is because they want to check it has no blade stored in it.

I've had this happen to me once before but it's just a short delay. Best keep it near the top of your hand luggage rather than keep it buried.

Edit: Addition of my experience

Don't let those people rule your life and face, do as above suggested and just stick your blades in the checked baggage.

Imagine holding a plane hostage with a little DE blade, dunno, but just imagining at the moment

and I don't seem that threatening in my mind, more a Monty Python sort of thing.

Well the world we live in has become a bit comedic in a wish my Nanny was here sort of way.

Somehow we all just roll over. But if that's the way it is we just do it. Shits me though!

SPUD to the rescue ?

For a bunch of larrikans your advice is infinitely sound and sensible. Will put the Weber in with my meds in a pouch in my hand luggage and a little five pack'o'blades in the suitcase.

Thanks fellas (y)

I've travelled a few times with a DE in my carry on (going to a meeting and swapping razors with a mate afterwards).

I found that it was just easiest to put the DE in the tray with my mobile through screening as they will see it in the bag and get you to fish it out anyway. You save time by just having in the tray

I don't think you'll be able to find them anymore but I have a Feather Travel razor - is basically a Tech that screws apart into a neat lil plastic case. They were quite sought after but I think they stopped making them a few yrs ago.

In lieu of one of those I'd go one of the chinese cheapies - they're sure to be fine and will help you appreciate your better DE's back home upon your return.

Yeah, I picked up two of these from Dr.Idiot quite a few years ago. They certainly are not the best quality (or weight) but I am looking forward to taking it on my trip to Malaysia next year.

You could also look into the Feather Popular which is a plastic part (handle, safety bar) Superspeed design which is interesting. I have heard they do need extra weight though, and you are paying something like $25 for one including postage. You might be better off finding a SPUD or anotherSPUD-like razor, rather than this particular SPUD-like razor.

If I am travelling locally, then I usually just take my Slim. Generally have no issues with it.

Dr. Idiot? Where's my newbie-issued P&C decoder book?

Hey they don't look too bad. Very much in the footsteps of a Tech. Of course, you probably have a better chance of tracking down a Tech nowadays. Having said that PJ has me curious about the old bakelite now.

Dr. Idiot (aka Jason) from Badger & Blade is a vendor who runs a Singapore-based online store called Double Edge Shaving Place.

http://www.doubleedgeshavingplace.com/

Using a discount code (Code: BB101) and standard free shipping I purchased a Duke 3 and some Feathers from him.

Aaaaahhhhh..........those were the days............checking out online shaving stores. Brings back memories. Nothing's changed. Still selling those silly fluffed up, wannabe badger, boar brushes from Semoque.
