What do you have in the post right now?

I wanted to try the horse for a long time now SO I just snagged a Vie-Long 13061. : )

Love my (broken) horse and can't wait for my new one to turn up - this handle would have been my first choice, but unfortunately it didn't come with the knot I wanted...

Just arrived in the mail today. 2 x Body Shop brushes (Thanks @Mark1966 for your direction). My DE89 (thanks @Mark1966 for your sale) with Bulldog handle (thanks @Nick the Knife http://paste-and-cut.com.au/communi...-weber-handles-usd25-10-post.1509/#post-34434) will be leaving home for the next month or so. I have a couple of mates who I'm trying to get started on real shaving. I'll give than some soap, a 5 pack of Astra Greens & a brush to get them started with a loan of my DE and see if they like it.

I use a lovely Waterman daily

And it just happens that you can use a different "lovely Waterman" daily. (Not that there is any suggestion of an AD). :)

No mate, just the one. Got it and a matching rollerball in a set a few years back

As you can imagine fountain pens are a collectors temptation. You've got those that collect every model in a particular make or those that collect the top of the range models in all makes or both etc etc. Then there's all the inks, papers and the list goes on. I only just got in to writing with a fountain pen. Being a lefty and one with an appalling hand writing I always scoffed at the idea of using one. My handwriting hasn't improved a lot, but at least I'm writing stuff even if it's only "to do" lists.

I just bought a 1000-grit stone, to complement the 3000, 8000 and 13000 ones that I already have.

Thanks to @Mark for the great and in-depth advice on this.
What did you get and where did you get it from?

It is just a cheapie. I think it is a Taidea brand, off of eBay. I found a seller in Sydney's west, so I'll get it fast.

About $30. I just have to chamfer the edges when it arrives, and make sure the surface is flat..

I'm finding that the cheap stones are pretty good, as long as they are looked after correctly, and kept flat.

Great stuff! Glad I could help. I find that spending more time to get it right on the lower grits makes for a better edge that's far more easier to polish up on the higher grits once that bevel has been nailed. A good way to test the bevel is the TNT (thumb nail test) draw the edge on a wet thumbnail and it has to feel like it wants to dig into your nail from heel to toe, lift the razor and try in various spots, it might make you cringe at first but its very accurate once that bevel is set you're more than half way through as it is the most challenging part of any hone job.

This package https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...op Synth, Astra Greens, Commander Passion.PNG gets delivered to one of the blokes at church tomorrow. He has it for 3-4 weeks and then I move it on to another bloke in church. They can keep the brush, the soap and the blades to get 'em started but I'll want the EJ DE89 with Bulldog handle back. Hope they get into DE shaving. One of them likes the mystique of the straight but that'll come next.
