Small parcel of 50 Voskhod blades on its way from Moscow. My very first international transaction with the Ruskies and I'm very excited! My small bit for Australian/Russian relations.

OOOOHHHHHH

Very nice ....

From the photo that looks in really good nick.

Why do you use a shim?

Why do you use a shim?

The Old Type and New Improved were designed for blades that were thicker and had greater tensile strength. Because the blades were harder to bend they had a different blade gap and angle than is obtained when using modern thin blades. Skimming gets the razor closer to design specs and provides a more aggressive shave, which is what I prefer. The 1904 Gillettes were marketed to men used to straights and with advanced technique. I found my technique improved markedly with using Single Rings (shimmed) and the Muhle R41 (you didn't see me shim the R41...you can't prove a thing).

May I ask whom you purchased them from? I bought some from a Russkie seller and they took nearly two months, and communications were very haphazard from the seller. I got the product in the end but it was a bit daunting.

From a eBay seller called unuta77

Recommended by a fellow Aussie and impressive feedback.

Yeah same seller I had problems with.

fingers crossed maybe I just got unlucky.

According to tracking number it's scheduled for delivery on 9 July. My expectations of the Russian postal service isn't high but I'm sure it will eventually get here.

Just bought an Omega Boar brush (80005/10005).

My Pro49 is great but I'd like to try a smaller boar brush. This one looks like it could be good.

$13.20 at Turnleys (Granville, Sydney) as a walk in.

Seems a good size for versatility- face or bowl lathering.

So what is your opinion of the blades compared to say Polsilver, 7 O'Clock Yellow or Personna Red?
Voskhod compared to Polsilver - I think the Polsilver is a sharper blade and probably about even for smoothness.
Voskhod compared to 7 O'Clock yellow - I find the yellows to be rough and I don't get a great shave with them, the Voskhod wins that one hands down.
Voskhod compared to Personna Red - I think the Personna Red wins that one. I found the Reds smooth and sharp yet not dangerous, the Voskhod is smooth.

Where I find the Voskhod is really good is in an aggressive razor like the R41. No hesitation using Polsilver or Voskhod in the R41, some apprehension using the Yellow in that razor. In fact I don't think I would use that combo again.

However if you used something like a Progress, Polsilver or Red would win hands down. Just sharper and better on the face.

In summation, I find the Voskhod to generally be a milder, smoother razor without any danger of slicing yourself.

This week was a big score!
Today I received some Hovans Gold because I had these 2 spots that ingrown hairs just kept happening(corners of the mouth).
It has been better since DE shaving but still happening.

The thing is that after applying it only once it seems better than usual. Yeah, I will wait but this shit seems ok.

Also I received a Leatherman Style CS because I needed new scissors (don't ask).

Also a Spyderco Sharpmaker and some ultra fine stones for it.

I also am making about 20 strops of different types.

I also received a 30 Watt variable Watt e cig, plus some coffee roasting stuff.

Life goes on.

Birthday?

Fucking hell guys, if you want to get stuff sharp easily try this Spyderco Sharpmaker thing!

Then make strops for bloody near on nothing. It is amazing so far and only day one in for me.

I was always into sharp but this is too easy.

I welcomed a Commodore into the residency upon Friday.
Not as big as I was hoping, yet prefer the handle design over a Berkley.

Curiosity got the better of me and I purchased a stick of Arko from a U.K. eBay seller. $6.60 delivered.

There are cheaper options, if you don't mind ordering from Turkish sellers, but for the sake of 1 buck I opted for the quicker and more reliable choice.
