Rapira Plat Lux were almost a perfect fit in the elite as well. Almost as good as the feather. Most others had to be encouraged I found :)
That’s interesting, I double checked the fit of the Rapira Platinum Lux and had to lever the blade out. There must be batch differences. So I am bypassing them for the Elite, no point in asking for @Mark1966 thumb.:)
The Bullgoose site also says Gillette 7 O'clock are a fit but I haven't tried them yet. They're next on the list. Have you tried them? What's your pick blade for the Elite?

  1. Preshave: Cyril R Salter, Lavender
  2. Razor: Hart Steel 5/8, Barbers Notch
  3. Soap: B&M Cologne Russe
  4. Brush: Dovo 23mm silvertip
  5. Postshave: RazoRock DonMarco
  6. Earworm: Aisha - Death In Vegas
No pics today, but what an awesome shave. I am totally hooked on straights. The shave this morning was impeccable, with absolutely no nicks, no irritation and BBS. I mean seriously BBS. I don't think I've ever had such a close shave. I took the first pass nice and slow and then re-lathered for a second pass, with virtually no pressure whatsoever. The blade just glided over my face. I've got some ATT and Timeless razors that I don't think are going to get a look in anytime soon. Might have to pay visit to the High Street to see if there are any takers.....

I tried the 7 O'clock green and yellow, and they were tight. Could be a batch thing with the rapira. I did think that some of the other Russian blades might work, but didn't have any luck.

My pick was the rapira plat lux or permasharp. Seriously still considering trading the timeless for a Rocnel Elite. Really was a great razor.

Pre: my lemon Myrtle pre shave oil

Ah, Sweet Lemon. I've been waiting to get my hands on this scent for a while. Reminded me of a lemon pound cake, once I got past the smell of the base.

Razor: Vintage Gillette 'Fatboy' Adjustable (5)
Blade: Vintage NOS Gillette Super Stainless (7)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson 'H2' boar
Soap/Cream: Wholly Kaw Madison Avenue shaving soap
Aftershave: Wholly Kaw Madison Avenue splash

A long time ago, January, before there was any talk of TSW importing Wholly Kaw a lot came up on an overseas forum from a seller in Canada. Through the joys of surface mail that lot is mine, including this soap and splash.

Of course, I could have just ordered through TSW it seems, although this one is a LE ...

Is the smell of the base constant and overpowering? Have you smelt the one called "shore"? Is it a coastal smell? I did not know I needed a Coast smelling scent untill I seen that. (Hoping for some mad nostalgia growing up coastal). Did you get this from the maggards meet up? I read that the CL lamplight scent is awesome. Did you get a chance to sample it?

So many questions!

Another good shave this morning, although, I am thinking that maybe letting my stubble grow out a day or two could be the best way forward, whilst still learning to use s straight. Slight bit of irritation today around the neck, maybe the blade was not as sharp as the Hart, or maybe I used to much pressure. So much to learn.

First shave with the Karve C plate, and can certainly understand the hype. Initial thoughts were is this thing even cutting (fearing the C plate might be too mild), but after the xtg pass a lot of those concerns were alleviated.

This was only my first shave, so all comments are fluid and subject to change as I learn it more. Blade feel was equivalent to a #2 on the Rockwell. Honestly "felt" like it was too mild (e.g. blade feel not performance). Trouble spots on my neck however are closer than the rockwell #4 (lots closer), yet my cheeks aren't as close as my really efficient razors (Rex on #4 for example). I think my angle was wrong for the cheeks on the last pass though.

Even after 1 shave, tempted to grab a D plate. I will certainly be getting Stainless or Titanium version when they are released, and going C & D equivalent plates with my limited experience so far.

Thanks for the heads up. I was tempted to go E plate and now I think I will.
