Got something cool? Non-shaving Acquisitions Thread

Got myself a paramilitary2
Truly an iconic knife and I can see why it’s amazing in hand and very solid

Ok this is the misses acquisition not mine, but it's so cool I had to share.

A bit of background first. She has been doing uni part time for years. Finally today she got her final results and it's all done! So she went and shouted herself something she has been pining over since I met her.

I have no idea about the thing, but for anyone interested it's a 8 inch Celestron Nexstar Evolution and it has Wifi! What for I dunno.

Holy moley!! That's a ripper. Motorized and works with an app to go find whatever you tell it to by using your phone!!

That is huge! How far out into the Solar System do you think you could see with it?

Gotta be honest with you, Mate: She sounds like a keeper. (y)

See if only you lived in CBR when the light from the city was not such a problem!

Oh, and I think HER telescope is bigger than your telescope ...

That’s so great!
If it helps- I have it on good authority that there is a special kind of space photography that is both more expensive than regular photography and looking at things through a telescope combined Including the one roll of duct tape one would assume you need to combine these interests.

Plz provide original pics of mars.
Big lake on (well “in” really) mars ya know- should be a really interesting line of study

That might be, but I have way more grooming products then her now!

The light thing was definitely an issue last night. Plus we have a street light basically right in front of the balcony.

Yeah it's so cool! It's gunna be awesome to get it out of the city. Camping trip incoming!

The moon was so bright. She is lining up Mars right now.
Yep need to get away from the light pollution. We don't have that problem and have a lot of sky visible to us,and have a 70mm Skywatcher AZ refractor.Basic but a good tough scope that lets us see the moon with excellent clarity, can see Jupiter and it's moons ok too, although the moons are only little bright dots.We get it out occasionally to have a bit of a look around.
I would love something like that Celestron as it follows the object instead of having to constantly adjust manually. Also goes straight to what you want to see when set up instead of trying to figure out star charts.

@LukehGee - I'm with @lerenau on this - any girl that celebrates an achievement by shouting herself a 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain with computerised tracking is definitely a keeper!

Really? I mean, if she had celebrated by buying @LukehGee a lovely vintage Toggle or something to thank him for all his undoubted support during her study - now THAT would make her a keeper ;)

The price and the storage room has given me free reign to buy all the soaps and splashes I want for the next year at least! That's a present in itself

Our family backup needs jsut seem to keep growing, 2TB not enough, I figure 6TB should keep us out of trouble for a little while -

(One drive for NAS in the garage, a separate building at home, the other in the NAS at the office which has a backup of the home NAS)
