AusFarce or AusFantastic?

A glowing report for Australia Post. My wife has a habbit of leving things to the last minute (read too late).

She didn't get to the Post Office in Townsville on the weekend to post some presents to our daughters in Toowoomba for Easter. Walks into the local PO at 4.55pm yesterday (Tuesday) as they were locking the doors and wants to post a parcel. Staff weren't impressed and let her know. I told my wife that if she posted express it should be ther Thursday afternoon - Tuesday evening on the plane, delivered to Toowoomba by truck Wednesday evening for delivery on Thursday ... ... ... if everything went as it should. How was my shock when it was delivered to the home of our daughters at 3.45pm on Wednesday afternoon. Less than 24hours. Yes as it should be posting Express but I AM AMAZED. A big round of applause please for our National carrier.

So they actually delivered ON TIME?!?!?! Speechless.

There is a beautiful saying in German: Auch ein blindes Huhn findet mal ein Korn.

Loosely translated: even a blind chicken finds sometimes a piece of Corn ;)

Incidentally this week's "national postal services that are crap" award goes to DHL/DeutschePost... I ordered some board games from Germany. All went went well until the tracking info appeared.

My address is of course in Great Britain, it's a country many people are familiar with.

Due to a server error in DHL/DP all parcels booked in that day for delivery to GB were marked as going to Saint Helena (which gets mail approximately every 6 weeks delivered by boat from Cape Town).

My parcel got as far as OR Tambo Airport (That's Pretoria/Jo'burg) before being readdressed using a Biro and returned to Germany for onward delivery to GB.

Half your luck @Dale.Whiley! They are very hit and miss - blind chickens in deed!

@Nightguard posted a brush to me last Thursday which has yet to arrive and the tracking number is still showing
No events yet. Looks like your item hasn't been scanned yet
I was needing that brush for my trip that I start this afternoon.

@Sxot - Pfft, last Thursday and you are already complaining?

That's the minimum time anything seems to take with Auspost for me.

I guess the fact that if it doesn't arrive today it will now be at least Tuesday before it arrives will hurt a bit more.

You are an entire hop, skip AND a jump further up the coast than me. It doesn't matter when it arrives now... weeks for all I care. I won't need the brush until June now!
I see regular post within the week from the east coast. I wonder if there are extra delays due to Easter like there is at Christmas. Do people post eggs?

Do people post eggs?
That's a rather personal question!

Chocolate is a bit of a problem to send if you meant easter eggs? If you don't catch the postman when (s)he arrives, or are not very early in the run, then they are likely to be quite melty.
If you meant chicken eggs, then that happens all the time among the chicken breeders.

Major bummer :(

I try and NOT post in street boxes any more as I've found handing it over the counter and getting a receipt (which produces a tracking event) seems to assist with delivery times. Whether real or imagined it seems to work ...

Some Post Offices are also cleared (have the outgoing mail taken away) around the middle of the day/early arvo. So it is sent quicker on its journey also...

Yeah, I ordered a brush from @Nightguard which was posted on Monday. Assuming @Nightguard posts from Melbourne and using the standard freight company runs; Tuesday morning is in Sydney depot, Wednesday morning is is Brisvegas depot, Thursday morning is in Mackay depot, insert the Easter break, next Tuesday morning into Townsville depot and Tuesday delivery ... ... ... hopefully. Normal delivery schedule is post Monday post in Melbourne for Friday delivery in The 'Ville.

I would have thought freight for Townsville skipped Mackay. Possibly the truck stops in Mackay but Townsville freight would not be unloaded surely?
In any case, my brush from @Nightguard was sent on Thursday last week and arrived today (the next business day after I needed it), Tuesday - 6 working days.

Well here it is Tuesday and still no brush. Townsville freight/deliveries are in a basket/cage that does not get unloaded. Basket/cages stay on board going past each depot and as other cages get loaded, the trucks travel between major centres each night ... ... ... Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville Cairns ... ... ... unless the package gets loaded in the incorrect basket then delivery depends on when that cage gets unloaded, the courier finds the mistake and it is shipped back. Where there is people involved, mistakes happen. The Tracking number (60018226261091) still shows Pending, No events yet. I said to send it the cheapest camel-mail via back o' Bourke so it's no problem yet, just slower than what I thought is standard. By Thursday I'll be wondering though.

Ordered Razor & Balm from ShaverHeaven Express post yesterday(Actually Wednesday Night). Still showing as parcel information Approved or something like that!!!! Raving mad!
