Official P&C 2018 Sabbatical (& Back to Basics) thread

Oh I love this place hahaha :) I'm sooo tempted to join as it's the best way to stop me from buying stuff that I don't clearly need and use up my blades & soap supply in the process. It seems a tad confusing to me so I might sit out this time and cheer on those more brave than me ;)

Don't let me put you off by my questions. If you have a cache like myself it should be easy to achieve unless unfortunate like @Rami 's timing.
Reason I'm asking these questions is to keep me motivated while progressing my RAD, BADs etc while still fitting inside the rules.

May have to go crazy this month to satisfy a few needs but doable and achievable. I have a ton of stuff but will I be satisfied hence the sabbatical.:bag:

Hardest thing for me was the launch of APR. honestly it’s just that I expected the wait list for the brush to drag on forever. That I got it within a week was a bit sad

I'm tempted to join, but I'm a sucker for special editions, so the moment a brand releases something I want in a limited or special edition I'd be out. I already have a new release lined up for January .
Hardware sabbatical, easy. Software, no way.

Good luck to those of you who participate. (y)

Brad's website is pretty clear as to what the process is. Order a brush, pay a deposit and wait. Once you have paid your deposit you are effectively on the wait list (which is actually very short. It only takes about a week or two for the handles to be made, sending them to the UK to have the knot set is what takes the longest). It is not like Wolf Whiskers for instance where the list only opens now and again for a short period and once you get on the list you wait to be contacted.

Missed out on clearing the 2017 sabbatical by about 3 weeks is seems :D

Yep. And have resisted everything known to man. Cheap deals, one day sales. Unobtainium. Sad really.

Hope you are happy @Monsta_AU

ok, ok, ok, i'm getting closer to saying yes to this but again more questions.
Can I prepay a vendor for a product (now) before it is released and receive it during the calendar year?
If it is ordered and paid for prior to saying you are in, it's covered by rule two.

Mate wants to make a brush handle for me later next year so I must purchase the knots now and assemble later in 2018? Also if I reknot an existing brush with I knot acquired 2017 is fine?
Both legit under the rules. Get the order in and paid for prior to saying you are in, and it's outside of the challenge.

Confused with rules 1,3 & 6 in regards to donated items. Ideally the process of the sabbatical is for one to become zen (to a point) and use what they have to understand it/yourself more and be humble (plus chew up years of reserves). Rule 3 allows me to borrow indefinitely which becomes donated. Rule 6 says I can still go out and get 'back to basics' (which in the UK is Tobs) and purchase lower tiered supermarket items to get me across the line which contradicts Rule 1 that does not allow purchasing of items. To be honest that is too easy as proraso & nivea is not a penalty for some. I think Rule 6 should be removed and members in the sabbatical if low, rely on the generosity of other members. This means individual members who are not on a sabbatical can get involved thus creating a stronger community and further relationships (which is the base of P&C).
The 'Back to Basics' is an out where you run out of something, or a brush dies. The penalty is that you need to purchase a 'Basic' item and use only that item for the rest of the year.

I agree Proraso and Nivea are great products, however some of us tend to go for the higher end and going back to Proraso after being on APR, B&M and the like will be a bit of a thud back to earth. That said, if you were not sure that you could last based on what you have then it would be silly to jump in. If you are not in a position to participate then you do not have to, it is completely voluntary and a bit of fun. It usually ends up very self-deprecating to the participant and I get to hand out yellow banners - everybody is happy!

Hope you are happy @Monsta_AU

Yes, VERY MUCH SO MUHAHAHAHAHAHAH! :vamp:

Friendly reminder of Borked's Sabbatical Swap Service.
If you find you want something bad enough that you're considering breaking your sabbatical, contact me first with a list of items that you're willing to trade for it.
If you offer me something of interest, I will purchase the item, have it posted to you, you send me the agreed trade items, you keep your coveted green banner :)
Win win :)

Also @Monsta_AU
You know there's such a thing as leading by example mate.
My friend, will this be your year to shine brightly down upon us? :D

@Rami I know you think you had a lost with not gaining the green strip but really it is not a big deal
More to the point, what have you gained from being on a sabbatical that counts? eg for one not chewing up screen time on the P&C website for the latest B/S/T. and spending that time with your family.
Using soaps, A/S and razors you parked at the back of the draw etc etc
Money saved etc
Drawing the energy in when @UKSteve posts his scents etc

@Monsta_AU then this a piss easy challenge for hermits. Scrub rule '6' and I'm in :oldman:

Bah, just trade something you have with me or someone else.
You've enough sundry stock to afford a trade or two during the year, right?

I still have stock I have bought with the intention to use on sabbatical and not even opened. I have yet to finish a single pick of soap.

Running low on blades thou.

Please put me in.... I think I can do it!!!!

New long handle for the bronze Timeless ordered last night... SS General/Rockwell 6S and a few other less used razors laying around so won't be stuck for choice.... Plenty of soap, blades, alum, witch hazel in the house already.... A few nice silvertip/2 band/synthetic brushes already in rotation.... 2 more bowls enroute from China not received yet....

Not thinking about any more purchases as I'm fairly happy. I have spare olive wood brush handles and knots waiting to be fitted to them should I feel the need for a new brush... wood in the garage for a new razor stand if I get some free time....

May grab some "Red Lead" before the 31st deadline but other than that I think I'm good :)

Forum products are EXEMPT from Sabbatical. Under this rule, the Platypus brush is exempted, but @todras & @SchoolForAnts production of Australians All would not be as it was not an official product but merely offered to forum members. Any forum product thread will be clearly tagged with the Sabbatical status.

I will have a special forum only but unnofficial winter LE release for P&C members with tobacco absolute and whiskey as the central notes. I will not be holding any or saving any, they will all be sold at the time of release to forum members and the design will not be repeated.

Potential candidates, you have been fairly and reasonably warned :)

How much and to the usual PayPal account? ;)

I am so far from costing it right now, I want it to release as Soap/Splash/EDP but I want it to be affordable and therein is the current challenge. There will be a winter AP Reserve release along the same lines, but the P&C LE release will be very special and unique.

Rule 6 Stays. You don't need to avail yourself of it.

PM me once you have placed the order, and I will add you on.

I’d rather trap my cock in a fire door. Too much nice ‘stuff’ out there to put with the other ‘stuff’.
Here is a smart man.

Exactly why I am not going in on this....

@RustyBlade I appreciate the comments and it seems like a great concept, however I only recently returned to traditional wet shaving so committing to the sabbatical is probably a step too far for now. I still need to work on my technique plus I have my eye on a few local artisans to try that were suggested to me when I joined the forum. Happy times ahead for me :) Happy shaves!
