Paste & Cut Travelling Box #3 - Reviews and Comments

About 1/2 an hour after shaving my face felt a little irritated. I don't know if it was the blade or the AS. I would have to test by process of elimination to find that out.

To quote myself... I used the Schick II Twin again today, this time in a RedTip and nope, it doesn't agree with me like most Schick blades I've used. My melon just doesn't get on with Schick blades, buggered if I know why?

The box has landed, I repeat, the box has landed!

Can someone remind me of the rules for this particular box before I start digging in?

Most things are samples so -

Please do NOT remove ANY item without checking with me first.

This is a variation on the original rules but given the nature of the box makes it fairer. It also means we can do a smaller, swap in and out box later.

A reminder about the other rules -
  • The sender is responsible for cleaning the items before sending the box and the receiver is responsible for sanitising the items upon receipt.
  • The box can be kept for 1 - 2 weeks, please do not exceed 2 weeks.
  • Post when you have received the box and your impression/comments for the products within – we want to hear your opinions and see your pics! Reviews don't need to be complicated, even a rating system is fine.
  • When you have finished, PM the next recipient to ensure they are ready to receive the box.
  • The box is to be posted with a tracking number at all times and that number is to be posted in this thread.
  • Please keep the weight of the box to 3kg or under to keep shipping costs down.
Any problems, PM me. Most of all - enjoy!

Oops, forgot to post my final review.
My final shave with the box I yet again used another 2 soaps.
This time was the Dr Jon's and the K-Shave Cin Ap Snap
I used the Dr Jons first as the scent was very mild. Performance wise was ok but it didn't wow me.
Second was the Cinnamon bomb. I loved the scent of this and so did my kids. It reminded me of a warm doughnut. It provided a great glide for my last shave with the GEM, which I was brave enough to use XTG.

I've been enjoying my Clubman Bay Rum as of late so I thought I'd have a go with the one pictured from the box. All I could read off the label was a very faded Bay Rum. Can someone tell me what this was? It was more subtle and balanced than the Clubman. It didn't have the smell of a slow cooked Silverside. Left my face feeling great.

Once again thanks for the opportunity to sample this box.

@Mark1966 will be able to say. My guess would be Captains Choice Bay Rum.

Once again thanks for the opportunity to sample this box.
It's all thanks to @Mark1966 once again!
Thanks for writing your thoughts on what you used. [emoji106]

Great write up @Steve_M - many thanks!

Ditto - great write up @Steve_M

It is either the Captain's Choice or Ogallala - I couldn't see it in the picture though?

Label also has Taylors on the top section.
If it's either Captains or Ogallala, it's most certainly the former!

Tonight's shave, bought to you by the realisation that this was actually last nights shave, which was the same as the night preceding it!

This arrived at an inopportune time for me, due to undesirable circumstances, and while initially I was enthusiastic, my enthusiasm has waned, due to energies being commanded elsewhere.
It took a bit to get going, yet we've set sail.

First foray into the box saw me decide to drive a Lada around my face and see what transpired.
Well, not overly enthused after two shaves, yet keeping another for when I send the box on it's way to try in a different razor.

Slip Super secret bath soap, followed by La Toja Magno Glycerine soap and finally the Plisson apply a super secret shave soap.
Sharp
Krooked Kraut driving a Lada.
Soothe Shaver Heaven Arctic Mango ASB.

Bath soap smells great.
Not convinced as yet either way re Magno.
Plisson is still yet to warm to me.
Shave soap is interesting scent wise, challenging perhaps after other's reviews.
Luurve my 37c, yet it didn't get along with the Lada.
ASB was the best bit of this shave :D

Tonight's shave, bought to you by... umm...

Slip
Super secret bath soap, followed by La Toja Magno Glycerine soap and finally Shedomatic applied Men-U shave cream.
Sharp
SPUD ft modern discontinued Polsilver brown.
Soothe Mrysol formula C.

Yeah, I like the scent of this bath soap, yet I'm not the one to tell, so you will all have to wait!
Shedomatic is what it is, if it wasn't faulty and floppy, it would be a nice small soft brush, a pity really.
Men-U is neither here nor there, it's mediocre and the scent, while reasonably uniform, is probably it's most notable factor.
Who likes SPUD SPUD? I dislike silly plastic useless devices.
Far too light and no where near an efficient, nor irritation free shave, the little fucker even drew blood! How dare it!
Even a Weber Bulldog couldn't save it.
Sorry SPUD lovers, I did try and wanted to like it, but it's as useful as a Politician trying to reign in a deficit in an election year!
Saving the Polsiver for a real razor.
Mrysol is quite floral to me and did it's job in post shave healing.
Still sticking with Formula K thus far, yet a few more scents to try as yet :)

Hmmm, maybe not my addition to the box?

Currently awaiting outsource tenders to arrive!

Wait... no... hmm...

Have tried a few more items, will post them and a few more that are on the to try list no doubt some time entirely unsatisfactorily for the instant gratification generation ;)

This is not a review, it is a tribute!
I've now a working keyboard, so a working desktop again :)

Tonight's shave, bought to you by... shaves of days past

Slip
Super secret bath soap, Plisson synth applying DR Harris Windsor.
Sharp
Toggle to the rescue ft an Indian Gillette Black blade.
Soothe Aēsop Moroccan Neroli post shave lotion.

Dr Harris performed ok, nice scent though.
Aēsop was a bit of a surprise, good in performance and scent is interesting
Overall, both are usable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slip Super secret bath soap, Plisson synth applying Super Secret bath soap, just for the hell of it!
Sharp
Toggle to the rescue ft an Indian Gillette Black blade.
Soothe Faena Citrus aftershave lotion.

SSBS performed better than expected, better than C&E, better than the Conk and provided a usable shave soap in a pinch.
Was a tad upon the airy side, yet was expected.
Faena has a scent profile that reminded me of citrus based desserts!
It performed ok too.
If time, I would try it again.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slip Original Source Limes, heavily Mentholated, Plisson synth applying Wickham Sheridan
Sharp
Toggle to the rescue ft an Indian Gillette Black blade.
Soothe Myrsol Metisol

Myrsol Metisol worked, yet it's scent is far too old man for me.
Is something I associate with elderly retired guys wearing.
Wickham has a weird lumpy texture, yet despite that, worked well.
Scent is hit and miss for me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slip Super secret bath soap, Plisson synth applying K Shave Works Cinap Snap
Sharp
Toggle to the rescue ft an Indian Gillette Black blade.
Soothe Myrsol Agua Balsámica

K Shave Works scent is wonderful, like a hot apple pie!
Works well too, yet not top shelf.
Agua Balsámica was the stand out in this shave, worked wonderfully with a medicinal scent that suggest sterility.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slip Dove bath soap, Plisson synth applying Van Yulay Chocolate Glaciado
Sharp
Toggle to the rescue ft an Indian Gillette Black blade.
Soothe Alt Innsbruck Emulsion followed by A/S
Van Yulay irritated the skin.
The Coffee scent was dominant in it, with no hints of the chocolate beyond the initial note and none whatsoever of the orange supposedly within it.
Was going to use another Myrsol, yet too irritated for just an A/S and an alcohol based one at that, so the emulsion came out and did a stellar job.

Slip Original Source Limes, heavily Mentholated, Simpson Polo 8 in best, applying The Shaving Shop - Endymion Proto.
Sharp Gem 1912 with Gem blade.
Soothe Aēsop Moroccan Neroli post shave lotion.

First, Endymion is not my scent, at first it appealed to me, yet once lathered, it's base notes took over and sullied what otherwise was enjoyable.
The soap did perform though, wonder who the artisan behind this one is.

Aēsop got another spin, liking, yet not loving the scent and performance.
Is usable, yet not something I'd pay retail for.

Now, for the surprise of the deal.
Gem 1912.
What can I say?
This thing is intuitive!
It's as easy as pick up, open jaw, drop a blade in, close jaw which positions the blade and run it around your face and it feels... well... right!
It is assertive without being R41 aggressive.
A healthy respect and a bit of a clue will produce DFS for most and a BBS in time.
It claimed a few nicks, yet with regular use, this I reckon, if you're able to find smoother blades, would be bloody awesome.
This SE lark is something I wrote off as a marketing gimmick, yet now I may have to research further into it.

Slip Original Source Limes, heavily Mentholated, Semogue Owners Club Cherrywood in boar, applying The Shaving Shop - Casablanca Proto.
Sharp Gem 1912 with Gem blade.
Soothe Myrsol Antesol shave lotion.

If you don't already own a Semogue, why the bloody hell not?
The Shaving Shop is an interesting beast, ran by a giant of the shave world, out of pure passion.
Peter sources his products from his favourite artisans, according to his scent specifications.
Casablanca is a nice overall scent, I quite like it actually.
Unfortunately whoever makes the soap was left wanting compared to last nights The Shaving Shop soap.
That base, with this aroma would work quite well for me :)
Unfortunately, it's not to be :(

Gem is surprising, it is sneakily aggressive, not in a "I'm taking your face and there's nothing you can do about it" R41 manner.
It was tamer tonight with only the one shave under it and suspect it would be a very nice shaver once tamed.
It's quite audible in it's feedback and it draws to mind, comparisons with a straight razor, yet more user friendly from the onset.

Myrsol Antesol is something I'm likely to purchase.
Enough said really :)
