Paste & Cut Travelling Box #3 - Reviews and Comments

Razor: Schick Injector
Soap: Dr Jon's
AS: Myrsol Formula C

I have no idea why I picked the Dr Jon's other than the tin looked pretty cool.. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the scent, to me it's got a leathery/tobacco smell and a beeswax colouring. I found the scent dissipated pretty quickly but it gave a nice creamy lather with reasonable glide that was very similar to my Soap Commander soaps, that is, just about as good as you can get with a vegan soap. So all up, pretty happy.

The star of the show was the Schick though. I got a really nice smooth shave from it even though it appears to be a fairly mild razor. Not even a hint of a nick and 2 1/2 passes gave me a BBS shave. I'll be on the lookout for one in the future.

Last but not least was the Myrsol Formula C. Seems to have a slightly sweetish and mint/menthol aroma to it, two things I rarely look for in an AS but I was pleasantly surprised. It gave a nice bracing feel with little sting (although that probably has more to do with the razor). That's the good thing about these boxes. They let you try and enjoy products you wouldn't normally look at :)

Nice write up. Some great products to try. I'm a fan of the Myrsol C but would say it's got some floral element to it as well. Violets to my nose.

*cough* *cough* Vegan soap lathers as good as tallow. Some much better than others, just like some tallow based soaps are crud... [emoji6]

...and some claim to be a tallow soaps and are just a stearic acid ones with a couple drops of beef fat added :(

Guys.. Perhaps I phrased it poorly although I did say a "nice creamy lather". I totally agree that good soaps have equally good lathers whether they are vegan or tallow based. Hell I've had vegan soaps that lather so well that they make me look like Santa Claus with a bad dose of rabies! The only advantage I find with a GOOD tallow soap is residual glide. That to "me" is where you can feel your chin after the last pass and there is a spot that needs touching up. A good tallow like B&M has left enough slickness on your skin to finish the job without breaking out the brush again. In my experience (and perhaps I haven't met the right vegan soap yet) you can't always do that with a vegan soap. As they say, YMMV.

Well said. Have you tried Jabonmans soap? I find it leaves more than enough residual slickness for any touch ups. Very similar in many ways to a good tallow soap.

For today's shave I went all floral/citrus.

Razor: DE89 with Weber Classic handle
Blade: Schick II twin blade
Soap: Simpsons Luxury Croap
AS: Floris JF

Although the Simpsons soap is supposed to be scentless, smelling it gave off a strong citrus aroma. However upon lathering that soon disappeared and just smelt like soap with a slight antiseptic scent. However it did the job required, good lather and cushion, reasonable residual glide.

The Schick II was an interesting experience inasmuch as it did a better job than I expected. Whilst I was using it, it felt like an average sharpness blade, nothing special. However after 2 passes I did the old chin rub to feel where I had to touch up and it was as smooth as a baby's bum! Maybe that 2nd gimmick blade actually was doing something.

With the Floris AS, a little bit goes a looooong way. Lots of complex scents there and to my nose mandarin and lemon or lime seemed to be the strongest. Very nice. About 1/2 an hour after shaving my face felt a little irritated. I don't know if it was the blade or the AS. I would have to test by process of elimination to find that out.

All in all, a good shave :)

Nice write up mate!

I think that the Floris might be an EDT rather than an aftershave per see - unlikely to have any good for the skin stuff in there - focus on smell!

Your nose seems pretty good in comparison with the 'official' description too - http://www.florislondon.com/en_gbp/jf-eau-de-toilette

I thought Jabonmans soaps were tallow?

Ahh lanolin, but not tallow in most.

Some Jabonman have tallow but not most - two ranges :)

OK. What have we got today?

Razor: Schick Injector
Soap: D.R. Harris Windsor Cream
AS Balm: The Stray Whisker
AS: Alt Innsbruck EDC

I won't beat around the bush. The DR Harris is a massive latherer. Maybe I used too much product as I haven't used a cream for yonks but I had enough left over to do back, crack and sack if I felt so inclined :) I can't really pin down the scent, it's got a bit of everything. Lots of cushion and glide as you would expect from a DR Harris product.

As the Alt Innsruck is an eau de cologne more than an aftershave I used after shave balm which I needed as for some reason, unlike last time, the Injector left me feeling a little rough. Maybe too much pressure using such a light razor. Very nice and soothing with a strong almond smell. I couldn't find out anything about it on their website, maybe it is a discontinued product which is a shame.

Lastly, the Alt Innsbruck. A typical old school aftershave which projects itself. Within 5 seconds of me walking into the lounge room the missus said "What's that sweet smell?" Now she rarely comments on my AS so it must be throwing itself out there! And it does have a sweetish mentholish scent to it which is a nice change from my usual AS, Aqua Velva.

All in all, another satisfying shave. One more on Tuesday and I'll pack it up and move it on.

EDIT: Oops, I forgot to put the DR Harris in the pic.

Apart from possibly needing to deep clean and sterilise that injector sounds :)eek:) like a great shave ...

Nice shave! Nice to hear you thoughts on the different products.

Nope, not discontinued. Just not in full production just yet... It's coming soon (perhaps as soon as next month).

Great write up @JayDee - thanks!

Sorry, no pic today as I forgot to take one before I packed everything up to send to @SydBJW .

Razor: Schick Injector
Soap: TOBS Eton College
AS: Floid Vigoroso

As usual, I was impressed with the little injector. Even on it's third shave it did a fine job. @Mark1966 are they schick blades or personna ones? Now unfortunately I can't say the same thig for the TOBS soap. I found it lathered OK but there was very little slickness or glide, the razor was skipping over my face. Most disappointing and surprising as I've used TOBS products before and always been happy with them.

However, I loved the Floid! I couldn't let the box go without trying some of this legendary after shave. A good old fashioned Barber Shop scent that felt cooling and soothing on my skin. I'll have to mosey over to "The Stray Whisker" and grab some.

It is great reluctance that I let go of the box but the show must go on. I'll post the tracking number later after I've been to the post office.

On its way. Tracking No: 60716037047094

Due to be delivered today.

Their has been a good reason I haven't been around much lately and unfortunately due to this reason (family illness) I am flying to Armidale today.

I have arranged @borked to pick up the box from my house so as not to delay the box.

Even although i am not always around lately I have meet some great friends in this forum.
