I'd probably have tried to work something else out with the seller myself. IDK $30AUD is quite a lot of difference.

I didn't think about the exchange rate issue until AFTER paying, $A30 was probably less than 10% of the total cost
 
After a 2 hour detergent soak and some light toothpaste scrubbing they turned out a treat.

Could smell these in the box..well the Glastonbury at least.

Nag Champa.."Smells like that shop where you buy candles from Dad.". Spot on smells like Nag Champa incense at Ishka.

Boat drinks..smells amazing. Hubba Bubba, banana, frangipani...

Pharaoh's Dreamsicle... Differs from Orange chill by having more an orange zest smell rather than just orange and added vanilla and sandlewood? Light, fresh and great.

Glastonbury... sample to test the water. Now disappointed it wasn't a full tub. The only Mutton Tallow soap here. Strong scent and makes me want to drape myself in black velvet and go full emo. Have nothing like this. Smells what I imagine 1969 smelt like.

So, my work colleagues at my previous work very kindly gifted me a gift card from Mens Biz when I left for my new job. I have never actually bought anything from Mens Biz, so this was a complete surprise. They know about my obsession with shaving soaps though, I have to admit, it does come up in conversation. Anyway, there isn't anything from Mens Biz I really wanted, and I didn't want to just spend it on consumables like razor blades. I also wanted to purchase something to remember my old work colleagues as well. So, I settled for a straight razor. I'm familiar with single edge shaving, I do use shavettes on occasion but this would be my first non-entry level straight.

It's definitely not shave ready, which I knew to expect. HHT was a fail, basically a letter opener atm. So much for every Dovo leaving the factory 'shave ready.' So into the drawer it goes for the moment. It's really given me motivation to learn how to hone a straight. Luckily, I've got my Gold Dollar and Titan to practice on.

Threw in a sleeve of Gillette 7oC Sharpedge with my own money with the order. Mens Biz threw in a sample of Geo F Trumper skin food as well. Extract of Limes smells pretty good. I may have to get the shave soap...

I acquired the Blue Devil Soap brush from their Tasmanian Native Timber Collection, Fantastic finish and overall quality is really good. Just FYI the brush is on the lighter side if you prefer some heft in your brush. The other brush is from Saponificio SV2.0 with High Mountain White Badger knot - Impressive!

Love the GSB and the Wizamet Super Iriduim blades.

Parker doesn't get much love here, but I took a punt and got a 22R and 87R from safetyrazors.com.au. Both were on sale and the 22R was a damaged box special. Wasn't even that damaged. The 87R is a pretty little thing, in all its Aristocrat homage glory. The 22R is quite the opposite; unabashedly nontraditional with its industrial design and gunmetal finish. The 22R is an odd duck; didnt realise that whole bottom portion is the turning knob (shaft) itself. So you hold the top part and twist the whole longer bottom shaft. Or you could turn the top half and have a bit of a show as the head spins and opens it doors like a Bond villain lair emerging from the depths.

On arrival and inspection I saw the 87R looked a little bit crooked on one of the doors, and the 22R had a little 1mm scratch on the plating on one of the doors. These are sub-$40 razors each, they were never going to be the final say in fit and finish. However I got in touch with Steven at safetyrazors.com.au with regards to the 87R door. After a bit of correspondence with him showing me another 87R, looking at the blade clamp and reveal on mine, I was eventually satisfied that the 87R was more or less ok and shouldn't be an issue as long as the blade was clamped properly. I asked to return the 22R as that little scratch would eventually bother hell out of me and he told me to keep it and refunded me the cost of the 22R. Needless to say that was above and beyond, but I guess he didnt have to deal with stock that he would have trouble selling. So kudos to him for that generous gesture.

You can all berate me for my choices now :ROFLMAO:

The beauty is, there's no right or wrong. What works for you is what's best for you. The Parker razors might not be heirloom quality but I've used a couple in the past and had very good shaves from them.

Yeah that model always looked appealing to me with its Merkur 38/39C knockoff handle. I've heard good things about that Parker single edge although I wish they made some improvements along the way and used an entirely metal constructions throughout, nonetheless I am eager to hear your feedback when you get it.

FOMO purchase before the price increase. I always had it in my mind to purchase this razor, but usually got overlooked for other ones. This thing oozes quality. The brushed matt finish feels like steel velvet, nothing like what I thought it would feel. Shave to come.
