Shave of the Day 2014

So @Drubbing have you found the Fatboy the only suitable Gillette or the only suitable Gillette adjustable? Just wonder if you'd have found something like a SuperSpeed or Tech to be smooth?

I have a Slim. Tends to slide over lather too much. I've SS and it irritates. Tried tech, Aristocrats and all sorts from Mark and found the same from all of them. Besides, I much prefer loading pu a razor I know the result of, rather than punting on a combo

Very interesting @Drubbing . Most I've read finds folks finding the Tech too mild and the SS a little improved but still a little light-on. The Fatboy a little bulky and the Slim right on. That's why it's different strokes for different folks I suspect. So you passing on that Slim now that the Fatboy hath been found? Some of us might be keen to try one for ourselves

The slim is a birth year, I'm keeping it for my boys. They'll probably be using a razor that plays mp3 by then...

Nah. They'll have lazer surgery and won't need to shave. Only the old men like us in the nursing home will still be shaving...

Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Soaps - Hungarian Lavender
Razor: Merkur 38C
Blade: Personna Blue, shave ? + 2
After-shave: Old Spice - current stock

Oh it is good to be home and using nice stuff. Have I told you that Mike's are great soaps?

No you haven't. What's so good about them. Pray do tell?
(just checked Mike's site and the ingredients look good).

Great lather, moisturising, great cushion, really lives up to the hype

Yep, I now want , nay 'need', some. As said over at the Aug Acquisition thread (w/- @Nick the Knife ) Barber Shop looks the pick of the bunch but all the soaps are out of stock over at Mike's site….

Oops to keep this on topic, lest I suffer the wrath of the Gmods, no SOTD today. Saving the shaving for the school-day morn…no scrubbing with any Mikes obviously but...:(

Travelling Box 2 SOTD. A review in the Travelling Box thread later.

Same old thing from me, although back on the Simpsons Lavender & Vetiver for a while since I finished my tub of Jermyn.

About 5 shaves down on a Spoiler in the Fatboy at the moment. Been using the Muhle Pure Badger for a bit to give the Smoggie 730HD a rest.

Going to crack open the Proraso Red for the next blade change. Looking forward to it, must be 12 months since I shaved with it.

Brush: Simpsons Duke 2
Soap/Cream: Razorock XXX
Razor: Weber PH w/- Bulldog handle
Blade: Gillette Black
After-shave: Tabac (after a little Alum)
Scent: Azzaro PH (that's Pour Homme, not Polished Head - as above)

I think I felt @Mark1966 shaving while I did, it was just a manly g-boy spirit in the air. Weber will need some getting used to (not as close as the NEW)…and the XXX lather was a little thin. Not feeling the love this morning, but more a Zen like bamboo cane across the back spurring me on to do better next time.

Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson Duke
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Soaps - Hungarian Lavender
Razor: Weber PH w/- Bulldog handle
Blade: Personna Blue 'Labs' - shave 1
After-shave: SIM lotion

WOW, how about that @stillshunter - even the same brush type! So synchronised :)

Great lather as usual from the Mike's. The Weber certainly feels heavy and solid - very different to the Merkur 38C I've been using lately. I must weigh the Weber and see how it compares to others.

Not a razor that I thought needed a lot of care - just threw it around the face. Good result though - closer than a EJ89 or the 38C I would suggest. Time will tell but this could become a favourite

PSA for all vintage blade afficionados.

If you go back to a modern blade, remember to change it after 3-4 shaves.

Voskhods on shave 5 or 6 do not give as good a shave as a Spoiler or Schick on the same.

Brush: Vintage butterscotch Culmak with a TGN finest knot
Soap/Cream: Occams Original Shaving Cream
Razor: Weber PH w/- Bulldog handle
Blade: Personna Blue 'Labs' - shave 2
After-shave: Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve

4:30 am shave before the first flight out of CBR - still managed a mighty fine result though!

Had to finish with the Special Reserve after all the discussion. Reminded me of why I like it. Still going strong scent wise now but in a subtle inoffensive way. I'm keen on getting more!
