Shave of the Day 2014

DR Harris Arlington
Simmo 10
Merkur 34C
Gillette Black o clock
Proraso Splash
Bulgari AQVA cologne

Just a good shave all round. I nailed the Arlington for a change and re-remembered that the 34C goes better held just under the head.

I felt manly after dethatching the lawns yesterday so a bracing menthol splash was just the ticket for AS. A bit of cologne and feeling a bit flash. Like a rat with a gold tooth really!

Intriguing.
Is that a Polo?

Got any secrets to share on tis count, as the lather off my Arly stick always seems glidey albeit a little thin? I put it down to being a low-fat (non-tallow) formula, but obviously I was wrong (no surprises there!).

Love the Arlington also. I find the combo of the @Drubbing method and wetting the soap with hot water while I shower works very well at producing a great lather every time. Not sure if water hardness will affect this soap or not...

Nope

@Mark1966 is to blame!

More product. It's hard as nails. I presoak but it needs a heap of loading too.

Just read that your arly is a shave stick. Can't imagine a worse soap style for a stick. Way too hard.
Now, no wonder I've struggled. The other sticks - Euro Palmolive, LaToja, Speick and even my rarely used Irisch Moos - are so much easier to work with. I think this is a prime candidate for grating. At last a calling for my EJ mug at no one will buy! Hmmm…also might free up the tube - which is pretty damned good - to gut for the Speick innards instead.

Thanks mate. You inspired me and here is part of the outcome.

…ready for travel!

Next, to shave the Arlington with the extra bits of Speick. Might even toss in a little euro Palmolive to get it 'roided up!

Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpsons
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Shaving Soap - Hungarian Lavender
Razor: Weber PH w/- Bulldog handle
Blade: Vintage 'French' Wilkinson - shave 1
After-shave: Old Spice

Time to give the Schick a rest and try one of the other vintage blades. This time to Made in England Wilkinson Sword in the French packaging.

Used the Mike's to ensure a good lather, it didn't disappoint.

First stroke and I figured I had my angle all wrong - second stroke was the same. This was just so smooth!

Maybe it was just the comparison with the 21 day old Schick but first impressions are this is a nice blade.

Niiiiice! Seems that the Weber can just do no wrong in your hands mate. Are these the Wilks you won in bulk recently?

So confused about Wilks, how do you tell them apart? I have a few different lots PIFed from different folks and they all just look the same. One I tried was a dud and be stuffed if I know which came from that same lot. Also have some wrapped in black 5-pack plastic doobies. Look like new ones, but the other new ones I have are in a white plastic doobie. Oh boy!

Time to give up the Gillettes now you have found your "one" razor then Mark?

The Wilks are the French branded ones as pictured, purchased from here as were @Monsta_AU's

Not the ones I got in bulk which are shown below:

Is the Weber the 'one' razor @eggbert ? I think I could live with it if I had to but probably after this blade I will get bored and swap for something else :)

Wow SYD has ditched his Smoggie for a Simmo. Very nice brush.

Where is the dislike button?

I have a 5 pack of wilkies on a blue card that @Mark1966 sent me IIRC but I think they are more modern than those ones. PJ gifted me a few vintage wilks a while back. One was completely blunt and the others shaved really nice. Damned Pommie QC!

I'm back on a bit of a shaving buzz atm. Tossing up a razor change up from the depths of the drawer for tomorrow. Hmmm...EJ89 or Rocket HD or...?

Where is the dislike button?........

I've asked that question before. All you can do is like it and then unlike it. Although the recipient won't have a clue it does give some personal satisfaction. How you've gone from a lousy excuse for a brush to a coveted vintage Simmo is still beyond me but it's a step in the right direction at least.
