@ now nicked. Dam that's a big one. Against the grain?

Ha NowNicked indeed! Unfortunately.

Against the grain, under the chin on the left side while right handed, just kinda slid it accidentally along and bang. There must be so many nerve endings in your face skin, my brain instantly computed the exact depth of the cut and cringed before the blood department went into overdrive and tried to put all 8 litres out the slot. Respect for Mr Cadman instantly returned.

As a sniper said once - confident, cocky, lazy, dead.

Rumour has it the use of ARKO!!!! would of prevented this...

Ahh I see Borked is a rheumatologist!

Actually I was more tempted to cut my nose clean off that time... :p

Francais Wilkinson (made in England) (2)
Fatboy (7)
Simpsons Lavender & Vetiver, Vulfix #374 etc etc

Great shave but a fairly hefty nick on a bump. Boooo.

I blame ARKO!/Semogue/Derby/ComplicatedShave Routine for this mishap. Join me for the burning of the Strawman at 8pm Sharp!

Hmm I can't say I am ever brave enough to go against the grain with a straight. Too close and gives me ingrown hairs.

Ybbor I agree. After looking at my face on google maps I realise it was across grain really. I never go against either

Brush: Frank Shaving Badger
Pre-Shave: Occams Original Pre-shave
Soap/Cream: Occams Original Shave Cream
Razor: Progress (3)
Blade: Rapira [4]
After-shave: Myrsol Emulsion

Binned the Rapira after 4 shaves in the Progress. Perhaps could have pushed it but it was my first time using a Rapira blade. Not bad, but not a standout. You can find it for a very good price though...

The Occams is a great cream and provides all that you want - slickness, moisturising and cushioning. The last is often what I find is lacking in a soap/cream, and yet -for me- is vital to an excellent performance. Compared to most of you, I enjoy the earthy, exotic scent.

I went the Emulsion today which can be used as a pre or post-shave balm. It's got menthol and lots of other goodies. Definitely an "ahhhhhhh" factor in a good way. Like a lot of balms it takes a few minutes to soak into the skin. It left my skin clear of any pain or redness.

@filobiblic Do you have any higher end brushes to compare the FS against?

My FS Brush is my only badger, and I wonder how it compares to a Simpson, or one of @Pjotr 's TGN reknots.

No, I don't. I find its soft and floppy, without being too soft and floppy. It can lather cream or hard soap alike with a very soft face feel.

I also wonder but then the price and variety dissuades me from experimenting. I know what I like but don't know the equivalents in the badger world.

For me, the FS badger (allegedly silvertip) is terrific value for the price ($30-40 delivered).
