Tomorrow's shave. To celebrate the voyage of my first go with a Bolzano pairing up with some Colonia.

Please tell me that's not a Polo...

It's been a while since I posted an SOTD. I've finally deviated from the fancy ass Manchurian Simmo and Panna Crema, and because I'm an elitist asshole bored, I've mixed it up.

Brush: Simpsons Duke 2
Soap/Cream: Irish Moos stick
Razor: iKon SB
Blade: Iridium Super
After-shave: Simpsons ASB

I was in a rush to shave this morning and thought a shave stick would cut down on time. After picking up an Irish Moos stick as a part of a sale lot YKW, I thought I'd see what Pj was banging on about. Some people suggest that Irish Moos is the same as Tabac, just without the somewhat polarising scent. Those people are morons who can't read a label. While Tabac and (Sir) Irish Moos were both made by the same German company, Maurer and Wirtz, the ingredients list does show the contents in a different order which suggests that the formulation is slightly different. As I understand it, ingredients labels are printed in order from highest quantity to smallest. If this holds true, the two soaps are demonstrably different although the ingredients are practically identical.

As a little bit of trivia, the same mob produce the cologne 4711 which was purchased from Procter and Gamble. Boo, hiss.

I'll STFU and get on with the shave. The Duke 2 is good at everything, and my return to my favourite combo of Super Iridium and iKon SB went very well. It's a combo that delivers a great shave every time. The Irish Moos stick seems to transfer to the face a little easier than some of my other shave sticks (La Toja, Valobra, etc). This was handy when I was in a hurry, but because of the quantity of soap, I wound up with loads of lather. That's not at all a bad thing, but rather a positive reflection of its ease of use and latherability. It's probably a little bit softer than the other sticks too. When push comes to shove, it does perform and lather very similarly to Tabac. It's a tallow soap, so the almost prerequisite creamy thickness was present. I found it to be reasonably thirsty, though that might just be because I used too much soap. With a very sharp fresh blade and a moderately aggressive razor, it's slightly difficult to address glide. The cut was clean and without irritation, and my usual curly hair trouble spot on the right hand side of my neck was irritation free. I wouldn't say that the Irish Moos is particularly protective or conditioning for the skin, but it's at least equal if not slightly better than most. Needless to say, the Simmo ASB didn't have to work very hard today.

All things considered after just one shave, it's at least on par with Tabac which puts it up there for me. I wouldn't pay an exorbitant price for it because I do think you can get an equivalent (potentially almost identical) shave from Tabac, and the 'unobtainium' premium you'd pay for it is in no way value for money compared to the many great soaps you can get for the same money. That said, it came bundled with MWF and L'Occitane Cade for a good price so I'd recommend it if anyone stumbles across a good deal.

P74 on whatever I said yesterday + 1. Tonight the Personna isn't the main attraction of the shave.

For tonight I swapped godrej menthol mist for the Nanny's ice and a slice.
Been a long while since I used godrej and I had forgotten the slightly unpleasant smell I associate with hospitals that it has. However even that cannot detract from the glorious smash of menthol that it provides. 10 minutes later and I can still feel the cooling to my cheeks.
Godrej may not be in the top 10 of anyone's soaps or creams but it sure is a top latherer and I sure have missed my menthol hit.

Looking forward to the alcolada as turning up. Do any of you have any other products with a big hit of mentholy goodness that you would recommend?

Plus, if you poke around Indian supermarkets you can sometimes find it locally for very cheap.

I think mine cost a whopping $1.25 in Singaporean money

Cade Soap today with Cade Balm and with a splash of Speik between the two.

Always Alum and my own witchazel brew after the rinse following the blade work and before the brand stuff..

Slim razor holding a Persona Red.

Plisson Brush,

FGS.....F*cking Great Shave

I almost forgot but I used some GFT Sandalwood skin food stuff as a pre shave for a bit of self pampering, because I deemed that I deserved it.

I believe so. I bought another tube in little India in Georgetown once but I think that one is long gone

There's a number of soaps that Stirling Soap Co. sell which are HEAVY in menthol - some folks even say too much so, so might be worth looking into. Very interesting scents too so not your run of the mill stuff. Oh and they have beer scented shaving soap too!

Third shave on the Francais Wilkinson. Easy 2-passer as normal, no nicks, bites, or unpleasantness. So glad I went and got another 200 of them.

I need to ship the rest out to Mark when he is back, then small amounts for people here that want to buy them.

I think you can safely say that's true.

Yeah it is softer than most sticks and when using it for the first time you can end up with too much on your face. A thirsty soap is a good soap in my book. Personally I've never really understood the glide/protective factor in soaps.

Although it was after manufacturing had ceased, I managed to cobble my stash of SIM sticks and cream together before they reached the unobtanium status and commensurate unobtanium price. Mind you, I had to convince a few reluctant German ebayers to send it to Australia. I wouldn't pay the unobtanium price for any soap because there are plenty of equivalent quality ones out there. But then that for me is a moot argument because I won't be buying soap for years. I love the scent of SIM which is why I chased it down in the first place.

Anyhow back on topic:

I'm starting to lose count but I think it's shave No 9 with the P74. Still sharp and going strong. I am somewhat begrudgingly starting to think that this is a great blade. Begrudgingly, because nothing would have given me more pleasure than stating that this is a pretty average blade, incurring the wrath of Monsta, getting another demeaning title and being able say to to the vintage blade freak community that they're indeed deluded. Pity!

As for the rest:
BS re-knot: Becoming my favourite brush. Of course it is. It's a Pjotr TGN special after all!
Tabac cream.
