WHOA...YOU GOT A 1305!!!!!!!
...smartest thing you've done since....well meeting me for a beer in Canberra (which I hope to do again soon BTW).
Loan a man some class and it flows through to other aspects of his shave/life ;)

Days ending in Y are for my straight shaves

I love days ending in Y!

It's from @borked
A top bloke to give* it to me. [emoji106]

~~~~~~~~~
*But I have to give it back. [emoji17]
I wish it was mine!
It could be arranged to be given for an extended holiday, if it is returned naturally.
Also mindful that there are probably a few others curious too and wouldn't mind a spin around planet face too.
Mate @borked is such a nice bloke, I'd predict his gifting it to you....
Are you buttering me up for a loan too ? ;)
Pre-Shave: Occams pre-shave soap, cold water
Razor: Wolfman WR1-SB with WRH2
Blade: Voskhod (1)
Brush: Paladin Chief
Soap: Mike's Lemongrass and Eucalyptus
Post-shave: Alum, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Stirling Vetiver alcohol free Witch Hazel
I had been looking forward to this shave for quiet some time now - first shave in the finished new den! So it had to be my favourite setup and it did not disappoint - heaven!
What more can you ask for?
Nice, yet a bowl of Col Conk lather that is not ;)
A young buxom lady to administer the shave?
FTFY ;)
Piccie please!
A very rare razor indeed! @borked !!!
Welp :(
One day I will complete the DE Krona set with an adjustable.
I share your pain @khun_diddy. From an accident many years ago I have a lazy right eye, tunnel vision (limited peripheral vision) and limited control/coordination of my left-side limbs. I have to twist and hold my head in a different manner when shaving my left side than my right side. I probably look like one of the Indian Rubber Men in the circus' of old. When I first started straight shaving I struggled big time but you learn methods that help you overcome the hurdles in your path. It just took me a little longer than most to become proficient. Straight shaving is addictive. I know you have the passion for wet shaving to push on @khun_diddy. Try holding the razor flat against your cheek then slightly lift the spine to the correct angle and then commence your pass. You will "feel" the correct angle as you shave and you become increasingly more comfortable and confident with doing something so challenging.
Just do it @khun_diddy, just do it. You will be able to succeed.
Interesting thoughts mate. You've fired me up to not give in just yet. Having said that, I reckon I'll give the kami a whirl first for the reasons mentioned. Maybe it won't make any difference but it might.
Steve, an 'edgeless' straight might be just the ticket for practising the unsighted approach. The other thing I could do is start on my neck?
Preshave: Proraso Red
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89L
Blade: Rapira Super Stainless
Brush: Omega S Brush(kindly on loan from @Draco Noir )
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica
Post Shave: Old Spice Original
Three pass shave today and I left it at that. First use of this blade and while it was smooth I did not find it particularly sharp. Still had some soap left in the bottom of the bowl from yesterdays shave so used that and the brush easily lathered it up. Very different feel from this brush, soft but with some backbone.
IMO just beneath the jawline & the neck are hardest. The jawline (curve) and neck (flabby skin and hair-swirl growth patterns) take time & skin stretching to master. But what makes you comfortable makes you confident. Glad you're going to keep at it.
It's very disappointing to say but shaving with a western-style razor will not be something I'll be able to do.
@khun_diddy - do NOT wimp out here mate!
You aren't Robinson Crusoe as far as the visibility thing is concerned. I have to wear multi-focal specs when I shave, and had to get over exactly the same hurdle. There are a few ways of potentially dealing with the issue. One that worked for me in the early days was to start from down below the sideburn where you can see or just about see, and then follow up using an ATG stroke to shave up to the sideburn - ie, start from the ear and shave towards the nose. You can get a pretty clean edge to the sideburn while dodging the initially uncomfortable feeling of not being able to see. As you become more proficient and confident you'll find you are able to put the razor in the right spot then just start shaving blind for the first little bit.
The Kamisori won't be a magic bullet that solves the problem for you, I'm sorry to say. It comes with its own little hurdles...
Seriously mate, just stick with it and you WILL get there. Grab suggestions and help from the straight shavers here - @Dale.Whiley has already been kind enough to offer some ideas, encouragement and support, and you'll find that others will too.
Good luck with "toughing it out" - we all want to see you succeed :)(y):)
Face Wash : Razorock Lime Menthol Glycerine pre-shave soap
Pre Shave : Myrsol Emulsion
Brush : Vie-Long Epsilon
Soap : Tim's Signature
Razor : Iwasaki Kamisori
After Shave : Speick
The Epsilon brush did a sumptuous job of lather creation with the Tim's Signature soap. I'm really loving this soap for straight and Kamisori shaving - aside from a great fragrance, it has lots of glide, and it's easy to get it quite wet without losing any staying power or cushion. Since this kind of shave still takes longer for me, some soaps start to dry on the face before I finish the pass. Not a good look :( The Iwasaki showed why it is top of the Kamisori heap - incredibly sharp and smooth, and needing only the lightest of touches to do its job. I ended up with almost unbelievably smooth cheeks and neck. The only substandard spot was last week's straight razor wound, which isn't quite ready to be shaved over yet.
A splash of Speick delivered a little bit of sting and a lot of clean fragrance. All in all, a really nice shave.
I'd made a pact with myself that I'd be happy to wear some big cuts in the first few months of straight shaving. They'd be a necessary evil. This was something other than wimping out though. No matter which way I shifted my eyes and hands, it was quite impossible to see the blade approach the cheek. I thought, 'maybe I'm holding it in the wrong hand?' No. Shifting hands only made things worse. The problem is that I have retina degeneration that has killed my peripheral vision. The scotoma covers the crucial spot where the straight shave begins.
I put the straight down and did a pass with the D Type. I lathered up again and again I unfolded the straight. Same result. I repeated this after each of my three passes to make sure that it wasn't psychological. Regrettably it wasn't. It's very disappointing to say but shaving with a western-style razor will not be something I'll be able to do. Tomorrow evening I'll try the kamisori. I'm mildly confident that the sleeker profile and different grip will allow me to safely use it. We will see.
Not sure if this will help but last night I was watching the Wet Shaver's Round Table #10 on Youtube and @mantic59 showed his "training wheels" for staight razors - which are small bulldog clips attached to the spine of the razor to give you the correct angle. I haven't tried this myself but the rest of the panel appeared to agree that it was at least worth a try.
Maybe combined with a dull blade it may be a help. Here's a link to where he displays the training wheels - 39 mins in
Pre-Shave PAA Mentholated ICE Scentless Pre-Shave Soap
Brush The Grooming Co Synthetic
Soap Strewth! You Reek o' Stockade
Razor Merkur HD
Blade GSB
Post Shave Dickson's Original Witch Hazel & Argan Oil
Aftershave Myrsol F./Extra
Little bit of irritation on my neck today but all in all a great shave. Ready for a new week.
I think you are the only other person I have seen mention trying the PAA Mentholated ICE Scentless Pre-Shave Soap.
What did you think of it? I think it could have had a lot more menthol added if it is meant to add cooling to the actual lather, and am still not sure what a pre-shave soap does to my skin that plain lathering doesn't. I know I'm almost as much of a freak when it comes to menthol as @borked, but I found it a little lacking.
I have used it and I didn't mind it as a cleanser prior to shaving. I think it worthwhile if you come home and need a shave for an evening appointment, yet are not having a shower. Certainly gives the skin a tingle and wakes you up somewhat, I work it into the pores with my brush to get that deep cleansing effect.
It's also marketed as a lather booster, cannot comment on that as I have never used it as such.
Definitely could do with more menthol, I don't know whether it really helps with the shave but as Monsta above I mostly use it as a face cleanser prior to the shave. As I generally shower in the evening a pre-shave soap helps with ensuring my beard is wet enough prior to the shave. As I usually bowl lather, I haven't seen any of the famed lather booster functionality.
I find the Proraso Green pre-shave gives a better menthol kick, but the ICE is good enough for the cooler weather. Also the lack of scent means that it fits a lot more lathers than the Proraso for me.
Brush: Smog 620
Lather: B&M Ferox
Razor: CV Heljestrand Le Duc
A/S: Metilsol & Emulsion
Reckon I'll remember this morning for a long time. 31 August 2015 is the first exclusive straight shave on a work day. Yep, shaved with the straight and the straight alone. Took my time and was still well in my usual (DE) shaving time ...maybe 5 minutes more but I had to strop on both ends! Be honest I'm 'king stoked!
Always found the B&M lather nice with a DE shave but I found it wasn't any chop with the straight. Not much protection and I ended up with a very dry face. I think this Ferox is going on the BST.
But it still couldn't sully the expereince. I nice shave with 50% BBS and 30% DFS. But all good enough for government work ;)
