Shave of the Day 2015

Brush: Vintage Simpson Butterscotch
Soap/Cream: D R Harris Marlborough
Razor: Vintage Gillette L1 Slim Adjustable (7)
Blade: Vintage Schick Super Platinum (3)
Post-shave: Myrsol Formula K

Didn't shave yesterday (shock, horror) so a two day growth. I was planning on passing on the D R Harris as it was not in my top soaps but figured I would give it another run today. Still not a great soap - but OK.

The Slim and Schick were superb - simply made for each other and giving a great, effortless smooth and comfortable shave.

The Myrsol Formula K has a strong minty smell. Not the sweet, sugary 'Mint Slice' smell but the powdery, clean 'XXX Mints' type mint. Lovely face feel, refreshing and tightening.

Great shave - good start to the day!

Preshave: Proraso Red
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89 with Windrose Handle
Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
Brush: Shavemac 177 Black
Soap: Mikes Coconut
Post Shave: Razorock Limes AS Milk
Two Pass shave with a clean up. Excellent tallow based soap that is easy to lather and leaves a nice post shave feeling on the face. The Razorock AS milk is absorbed into the skin without leaving it greasy. Good way to begin the day.

Yep it is official the Beaver Woodwright Thomas Tew is a brilliant soap. The lather this morning was faultless. Thanks again @SydBJW for the very generous sample

The perceptive among you would have noticed this morning's shave looks remarkably like yesterday's shave. But this morning was about trying out another frameback under the same conditions that I lauded a Japanese frameback. Big thanks to @Lynchy-Snr for the loan of a few straights - including this John Watts Sheffield frameback. The ergonomics of the John Watts was perfect, the cutout on the underside of the shaft made for easy angling and a sure grip. The size of the blade made for an very nimble and agile shave. The edge felt a little tamer than yesterday's Japanese frameback, this might have been down to the hone or the steel. I actually suspect the latter - as I always find Sheffield steel a little softer, but we'll try a little touch-up on the jnats to test my theory. All-in-all a great shave that found little protest as the alum dried.

Jaw-droppingly good shave this morning fellas.

Friodur 472 hasn't got much love recently, and I'm an idiot for neglecting her, she did nothing but beautiful things on my face today. I promise her more attention into the future.

Smog SOC 2-band is breaking in nicely. Great balance of density and softness. This might end up the first badger I truely bond with.

SV Tundra Artica was definitely the right choice. Smells likes it's good for you (and not in a bad way, I mean not in good way, I mean...you know what I mean it don't smell like the cough medicine your mum tried to con you into willingly swallowing). The lather is without fault - easy build, great structure, good balance of protection and glide ...oh the glide...and nice post-shave face feel. Found a soap that might challenge the mighty MdC. We'll see.

@shavetheman : Can we please think of this AS balm tub as less of a 'sample' and more of an 'interim measure' to tide me over until production. Mate waste little time finessing the scent as it's spot on as is. And if you're looking for packaging ideas then I think you already have the solution right under your nose.

I really, really, like the aesthetic of the SV sample bottle (per photo). Got a real apothecary feel...just like your balm. Keep it simple mate!

The edge is failing gracefully. I'm going to go to a gold shop today to see if I can pick up some abrasive to try coax the edge back into shape.
Mate this is precisely why I'll be taking either a small stone and/or diamond films with me on future trips. I initially thought a travel loom strop with a ChrOx and clean leather side, like this would do:

But found my edges got a little beyond this level of repair quicker while on the road. I think we shave a little more stressed outside the comfort and familiarity of our own bathrooms. ;)

Pre-Shave: Occams pre-shave soap, cold water
Razor: BBS-1
Blade: Voskhod (2)
Brush: Paladin Chief
Lather: Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Post-shave: Alum, Stirling Vetiver alcohol free Witch Hazel, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Perfect shave today - just before the heat started to build up! What a shame that future Paldin brushes will most likely not come with Lee Sabini knots - this brush is truly amazing and makes lathering Mike's a breeze! Took me ~1 min. to build some super wet/slick lather with a great cushion on my face and the BBS-1 took care of the rest...

SOTD 24th Dec

First shave in hospital just before, after my wife and I welcomed our newest family member yesterday afternoon. Pleased to announce that we now have a little shaver William to pass my knowledge (gained here) and gear onto in due course.

La Toja stick
34c w/ Astra SP
WD 24mm Synth
Speick AS

First experience with the La Toja and it was surprisingly good. Only 2 pass wtg, xtg and has plenty of lather left for a third if I had wanted. It was thick and cushiony, perhaps a little prone to drying out, but just added a little water and it came back nicely. Sitting here clicking away whilst they sleep, the post shave is remarkably good, better than I was expecting. I have yet to try speick or tabac sticks (have a sample of the speick thanks to @stillshunter) but wouldn't complain about travelling with La Toja at all.

Things are very much in flux at the moment, so if I don't get back on tomorrow, Happy holidays or Merry Christmas...

Well done on the new little shaver - the best kind that there is (y)

Congratulations to you and your wife. William has a little while to go before he starts ridding his face of whiskers but hang on to that 34C for him. It would make for a great heirloom (y)

Brush: Duke 2
Razor: EJ 87
Blade: Treet Carbon
Cream: Ach Brito Lavanda
A/S: Lavanda + 444

Another great shave with the Treet Carbon. Lavanda is an interesting cream, very nice herbal lavender scent, but oddly for a tube cream it's almost croap like. Great performance though, just takes a bit of an effort to get out of the tube.

Great shave, but better news on the new (future) wet shaver in the family! My first child was born on Boxing Day almost 7 years ago. Special times indeed... Congratulations!!!
