Seriously BBS with Maggard Razors soap and EJ + Personna Platinum.

You take really good pictures @dewynter for your SOTD's, aside ofc from the nice selection of products and blades you choose to use of a day!

Pre: Prorasso Red
Soap: MWF
Brush: Chubby 2 Best
Blade: Rolls Imperial No2
Post: Shaver Heaven Balm - The Teller.

I took the Rolls blade to the 1k because there were small chips and corrosion. I did maybe 10 light laps (three layers of tape) and back to the microscope to find a foil edge!! Wow, this steel is soft. From there I removed the foil and finished on the JNat. I did run it on the hone in the case but did not see any new scratch marks so either I didn't do it enough - or I got the angle wrong!

To the shave - well, I thought these razors to be a bit stupid - worst of both worlds but no, I reckon they are great actually now I have shaved with one. It's basically a non-disposable, but replaceable SE. It does have a safety bar, but it's only there to protect the edge from damage, not to stretch the skin like on a DE. In this regard, it shaves just like a straight allowing you to vary the angle at will. The DE handle arrangement makes it very easy to use single handed and going in any direction. A straight can struggle in certain places on the face at certain angles (eg going from ear to ear under the chin/neck). No problems here. The case contains the strop & hone making it very compact and hassle free when it comes to maintenance. It is, all in all an excellent razor design and should I ever have to choose between a Rolls and a DE, it would be a Rolls hands down.

In the negative, the balance is wrong - very top heavy. The handle is short (not a major drama) but also thin diameter. It can be a bit awkward to hold.

Shave was okay... the edge wasn't there which lead to tugging. I was shy after getting the foil edge so only did a limited number laps. I need to do more work on the hone - or go to town on the Rolls hone. Due to the tugging, I skipped the third pass (ATG) for an irritation free, nick free SAS shave. Six hours later though, I look like I haven't shaved at all today. I'll be sticking to three passes from now on.

Cold water shave
Soap: Shaver Heaven Barbershop (blue tub)
Brush: cheap synth
Face lather
Blade: Dovo Stainless Steel 5/8 with SS scales
Post: Alum block and Pinaud Clubman

Good to be shaving with a descent scent and the Shaver Heaven lather was great as always. Another close and smooth shave. The Dovo was good and sharp providing a smooth shave. An early Saturday shave. Most Saturday shaves are around 10:30am - 1:00pm but my wife and I had places to go this morning so 8:00am shave it was. Great shave, no nicks and as always just glad I'm a wet-shaver.

Sword: Schick L-Type
Suds: Palmolive / Omega S
Salve: Dickinson's Witch Hazel

A glorious winter's day today so I had my first shave at my new place, standing out on the back lawn looking at a faint reflection in the shed window. It's about the bazillionth shave on this Injector blade and it's showing no sign of letting up.

Great stuff.

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: Supply Provisions Single Edge Medium
Blade: Personna Injector (1)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac
Lather: Mystic Water Lime
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, Australian Emu Oil

Back to the Personna blade and with an extreme shallow angle (think almost cart) the shave was close and almost blood free - but still not smooth...

The lather on the other hand really brought joy to my day - it takes a bit if time to fill up this 30mm knot, but the result is pure happiness - take a look here

I'll bet you're the talk of the neighbourhood @alfredus . On the balcony each day photographing your trees. Strange.

It has been raining here so much and it was so cold, that I couldn't be bothered going out in the morning in recent times. The tree looks super fresh and healthy though :D

Pre: Musgo Real Glyce Soap
Soap: Beaver Woodright Ghost Ship
Brush: Simpson Commodore 2 Best
Razor: Gillette Red Tip
Blade: PSI (1)
Post: Myrsol Formula K
Scent: Bulgari Black

Testing out some new acquisitions lead to a suprisingly summery shave. The BW Ghost Ship is a brilliant soap with a very nice scent. More complex than just 'citrusy' and not sweet at all. It is very soft though, almost like a cream. I can see myself going through this very quickly. The hint of menthol was heightened by the 'refrescante' Formula K.
The Red Tip is my go to for a quick, comfortable, irritation and weeper free shave, although it never quite serves up a BBS for me.
A few sprays of Bulgari Black and I'm left smelling like a leather wearing petrol pump attendant holding a tray of freshly baked vanilla cookies.

Pre: GFT Lime Skin Food
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac Custom
Soap: Razorock Santa Maria Del Fiore
Razor: ATT S1
Blade: PSI
Post: Alum, witch hazel, Ogallala Lime and Peppercorn Bay Rum

Quick and simple shave tonight, would have loved to spend just a tad bit more time loading the brush. Lather was okay, wasn't the best.
4th or 5th use with the PSI, kind of lost count, I think it's time to swap a new one.
Finished with the lovely bay rum, burn it sure does, but great performer.

Pre: Occam's Crushed Lime Pre-Shave Soap
Razor/blade: Progress,3.5, Feather Blade
Brush: Simpson CH1 SB
Soap: Stirling Soap Co. 'Sharp Dressed Man'
Post: Stirling Soap Co. 'Sharp Dressed Man'

Felt like a Fougere this morning, or at least Stirling's homage to the classic 'Green Irish Tweed' albeit one that while commendable for it's efforts and having a fantastic scent does not come close to the original. Not all that surprising given the cost of the original and the incredible skill in it's formulation and composition but there you go. One of my favourite Stirling scents and one that is very popular with our friends across the pond.

I switch my Feather blades out every 3 shaves as from experience over a long time I find that they are great for 3 or 4 shaves then have a tendency to drag and or nick, seemingly of their own accord. So with a new blade, the fantastic glycerine saturated Occam's I set about a nice warm pre-shave prep while warming the Simpsons mug for the mornings constitutional.

Like all Stirling soaps, this loads easily and without any fuss. Great lather again too, no surprise there. I went with my usual 2 pass: a WTG, a light splash of water then the second lather for the XTG. Tried and true for me, always delivering a clean, precise smooth shave. I rinse twice with warm water then repeat twice with cold - not sure why, I just enjoy the clean feeling from the warm and the bracing relief of the cold. Quick towel off then on with the Stirling Balm and the excellent approximation of the classic scent, good performance from the Stirling Balms too.

A nice, relaxed Sunday dawn shave, I really could not be happier.

Razor: Gillette Fatboy (5)
Blade: Personna Lab Blue (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson reknotted in pure
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Shaving Soap - Barbershop
Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve

I wanted to do a bit of a 'reset' with my soap use to ensure that I'm fairly assessing the new ones I'm trying. What better way to 'reset' than with Mikes! It really has become my 'go to' soap after the May Madness, great results as always.

The Special Reserve is such a classic. A cheap ($US8.29 plus tax when I purchased from Pasteur Pharmacy in 2010) pharmacy aftershave from a large brand. Not sure that it has the 'good stuff' that some aftershaves have - but real men don't need that fancy stuff anyway. This is a 'real man's aftershave'. Old fashioned and simple, polarising in its scent profile, but having that usual Pinaud complexity and multitude of layers. I'm in the love it camp.
