Brush: Mühle STF
Soap: B&M Adagio
Razor: Gillette #58
Blade: Personna Lab Blue [1]
After-shave: Pitralon Swiss

The #58 and Mühle STF are loaners from @MrT . I enjoyed both- the #58 is a smooth shaver.

That is a very interesting and encouraging result @khun_diddy. Actually sounds better than I honestly expected. And you certainly don't have a fine beard so refining that with your Jnats will be most beneficial. Have fun.

With thanks to @Mark1966 and @filobiblic for assisting in acquiring the brush, @SydBJW for acquiring the soap and loaning the balm and my paternal Grandfather for his old razor :)

Shaving with a Snake

Not only the beauty of this straight razor is simply breathtaking, but also the performance in shaving is simply top notch. This Mastro Livi CarboInox Snake razor is very special and in many regards. The blade, first of all. This is a special CarboInox I wanted Mastro Livi to make for this razor and the middle layer is made of stainless steel with twisted carbon Damascus dots inlaid in the blade. The outer layers are made of a beautifully colored twisted damascus steel, made by Mastro Livi, of course. It is a genuine masterpiece made of CarboInox and a perfect shaver and I am very proud for having it in my collection!

Face Wash : Musgo Real Lime Menthol Glycerin Soap, Hot Towel
Pre-Shave : Alt Innsbruck Emulsion
Brush : Shavemac
Soap : Sudsy Soapery Citrus & Bay
Razor : Kanayama Tamahagane Kamisori
After Shave : Argan Oil, TOBS Sandalwood

After trying the absolute luxury of DIY hot towel treatment over the weekend, I couldn't resist adding it to the regimen for today. Fortunately it's easy for me - the hot water in my apartment is almost certainly in breach of some standards of safety, environmental responsibility or fiscal sense. Repeated approaches to building management have achieved nothing, so I see this as making the best of a substandard situation. After the heat treatment, the Alt Innsbruck preshave emulsion soaked into my skin like traditional ink into blotting paper. Today's face lather was a real delight - I've mentioned before how wonderful the Citrus & Bay fragrance of the Sudsy Soapery soap is, and it continues to really please me. The Shavemac also produced a very decent lather indeed from it, so it was an all-points win. If you haven't tried this soap and the scent sounds appealing, take a little chance at the Stray Whisker. It may be a game changer for you too. (Sabbatical observers like @Lifes a Peach exempted! A free sample should solve that little problem...)

The pedigree Kamisori produced the expected, brilliantly close shave. I still find myself "cheating" and using the Ura side towards my face for the right cheek. So far, it's the only way I can get the all important ATG pass done without engaging in a combination of Twister and Russian Roulette :( Have any of you other intrepid Kami shavers solved this problem? I'm thinking of @khun_diddy, @Dale.Whiley and @razorguy. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I finished off with a splash of TOBS Sandalwood, which served to remind me why I have very little English product in my shave cabinet. For me, the European products are more exciting, better value and frequently of higher quality.

Happy shaves, all :)

What'd you think about the springiness of the brush? I'm not yet convinced.

Glad you like the #58. Not sure we could be friends otherwise. It looks as good as it shaves IMO, especially when paired with that red velvet lined case.

Brush: Semogue Owner's Club2 Band badger
Soap: Beaver Woodwright Jolly Roger
Razor: Gillette #58
Blade: Personna Lab Blue [2]
After-shave: Beaver Woodwright Jolly Roger

I'm sad because @SydBJW wasn't able to hang on to this soap and aftershave as his wife reacted badly to the scent. But I'm very grateful to benefit because the scent and performace of the matching soap and aftershave are superb. Thank you so much @SydBJW for these - they are wonderful. I add my praise to the Beaver Woodwright soaps - the scents are spectacularly beautiful and the performance is top notch.
@MrT has lent me the SOC badger (darn him for his enabling- this is a beauty!) and the Gillette #58.
All up, it was one of those days that you just can't stop touching your freshly shaved face as you catch whiffs of the scent on your face. :D

It wasn't too bad actually. It certainly hangs on to a lot of water. I have the Medium (this is a large) and the smaller brush felt even "springier" to me.

That part of the face sees XTG only given the prohibitive calisthenics required to go ATG. I do use the 'correct' side of the blade though.

I always shave with the omote side. In the beginning it was not so easy because it seemed I could not find the right way and it absolutely felt uncomfortable, especially ATG. I learned it with time and a lot of patience. And I mean a lot! :)

Pointers?
  1. Push through the easy way and be prepared to shed blood for the traditional method.
  2. Go slooooow. Kami shaves take me a bit longer than a straight but I prime myself to go slow before I start, hence Saturdays and Public Holidays are my preferred days for the kamisori.
  3. I don't perform a "traditional 3 pass shave" you would with a straight. Because of the one-handed operation and keeping Omote side against the face while dodging (hopefully dodging) ears, noses etc. it is necessary to shave some parts of the face along non-standard tracks or paths/passes than a straight razor 3 pass shave. With patience you will find "your" best method of keeping it traditional on the Omote side. Shaving is about you revelling in the traditional ways.
  4. Enjoy the learning curve.
  5. Push through the easy way and be prepared to shed blood for the traditional method.
I know you will overcome this small hurdle @Draco Noir: tradition is calling.

Thanks @razorguy, @khun_diddy and @Dale.Whiley for your great responses to my question. Unfortunately XTG doesn't work on the right cheek for me @khun_diddy, so it looks like it needs to be the patience and perseverance plan suggested by @razorguy and @Dale.Whiley. I'm very much in agreement about tradition - why go down this path if not to follow it faithfully and respectfully? I've had great success in avoiding ambidexterity so far, but I think I'll have to learn how to go ATG with the left hand.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Sorry, I should have said I go XTG instead of WTG there. I don't do any ATG on the cheeks.

Face Wash : Shower
Pre-Shave : Proraso Green
Brush : Shavemac
Soap : Mike's Peppermint and Rosemary
Razor : Ikon Slant DLC
Blade : Polsilver SI [0]
After Shave : Fine Platinum

A very fine straight down the line DE shave today. After following @Psmith's progress with the Ikon/Polsilver pairing I suggested to him, I decided to practise what I preached. Well done, by the way @Psmith - seems like you've really hit the sweet spot now mate :) My continuing self-education in face lathering is really starting to pay dividends now - even Mikes is no longer a problem. I managed to create one of those near-perfect lathers that are the reason many of us rate this soap so highly. The Ikon Slant did its job in spectacular style - plenty of audial feedback on the way to an almost unbelievably smooth result. Finished the whole affair off with a dousing of my DIY menthol enhanced Fine Platinum - good times indeed...

WILKINSON SWORD SHAVE STICK
STIRLING KONG SYNTHETIC
1971 GILLETTE BLACK BEAUTY
GILLETTE SILVER BLUE

The Wilkinson Sword shave stick is seriously good. Never ceases to amaze me. I highly recommend you all try it. The lather is awesome, a seriously slick shave and super cheap.

I am now going to refer to it as "BLUE TABAC", it's that good.
