SOTD (21/12/2016)

Pre:
Lucky Tiger Face Wash
Razor: RazoRock Teck II head/Weber Wave handle
Blade: Gillette 7 O’clock SharpEdge (2x)
Brush: Omega 21762
Soap/Cream: B&M Latha Taiga
AS: Thayer’s Lemon/Aqua Velva Musk
Balm: Soap Commander Integrity
Fragrance: L’Occitan EDT

@walklikeaduck - what is the Omega 21762 like? I love the look of the handle but I've heard reports this knot is unbearably floppy for some - much more so than the similarly sized Omega 49? How do you find it?

Those accusations of floppiness are....COMPLETELY WARRANTED! I’m actually regretting buying this; my first thought while using it was, “my god, this is a floppy brush. It basically feels like you’re using a paintbrush. The handle is very nice, and feels good, but that’s about the only positive about this Omega.

@walklikeaduck that why I don't buy a boar brush starting from 55mm loft up to a maximum of 65mm loft height ;)

If you like Omega boar get yourself either a Omega 11137 24/55mm or Omega 10066 24/54mm without the black dye badger look style

Cheers - such a pity! I really love the look of that brush... apparently it has a "higher grade" (from the 31XXX range?) of thinner bristle to their usual brushes but they kept the same loft as the others in the process = floppiness!

@SpeedyPC - you need to get yourself a Proraso / Omega brush! 27mm knot, 60mm loft by my measurements. Same knot size as the 49 (65mm loft), which is also shorter than the 48 (70mm loft). Blonde bristle, although I don't mind the extra softness of the dyed bristle in my 80266 (24/54). For the Proraso brush though, backbone is its middle name - a nice step up in backbone from the 24/54 knot while keeping all the softness. The extra size also adds that extra element of luxury to the experience - I'm loving mine even more now it has broken in...

@RazorPlay Omega 49 was my very first boar bush when I started wet shaving and the brush was too big and too long and too scratchy after fully broken in, beside I've sold the brush long ago.

Oops sorry not 49 it was Omega 48

Lesson learned. I have an Omega 10019, and that one is quite stiff, with plenty backbone; I wanted to try this one for quite a while.

Yes, I read that too, but I’m sorely disappointed!

Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce
Razor: Dorko 855 6/8"
Brush: Thater 4125/3 2 Band
Lather: Chiseled Face Summer Storm
Post-shave: Alum, PAA Deja Fougere

Spectacular first pass with the Dorko. Literally just wiping lather from my face gave a DFS. DFS++ after 2 passes and I should have stopped there instead of chasing BBS. The third pass always take me a long time and it wasn't needed today. I really love the heft of this razor, it's probably why I have trouble with my Bengall.
I'm about 50 shaves in to straights and I am very happy with my progress. I can get a shave as close as DEs (even ATG on my neck now) and I actually didn't think that would be possible 2 months ago. Still so much to learn though (just starting to use my stones).
Good on you @Psmith ! Nice to hear you are going well your straights journey.

Pre: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: Stirling Ozark Mountain
Razor: ATT Kronos open comb M2
Blade: Vintage Rotbart Platinveredelt (2)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
EDT: Dezember No 12

Wow - what a great shave.
The fresh scent and wonderful slickness of the Stirling Ozark Mountain soap provided fertile ground for the ATT/Rotbart combo to effortlessly scythe through my 3 day growth. Three passes for DFS+. One weeper on chin; zilch irritation.
Post shave feel was blissful.
It seemed appropriate to finish with young Berliner Erik Kormann's stunning fragrance Dezember No 12.

Razor: Vintage Gillette Fatboy (5)
Blade: Persona 'Lab Blue' (1)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Culmak reknotted in TGN finest
Soap/Cream: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" Shave Soap
Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary "Settantesimo" Aftershave

[contented sigh]

Good to be home!

Last night - the learning curve is flattening out with the new Japanese frameback. It has a fantastic edge and shaves very smoothly. 2 passes for DFS+. I'm fairly convinced my shaving journey is a very "straight" road;
Razor: Hairop Japanese 7/8" Frameback
Brush: Omega boar
Soap: Works well
Post shave: Macadania nut oil and Lemon myrtle

Today's shave goes out the one of the most generous spirited lads I know. This man has a heart of gold and is great company to boot. Big thanks @SydBJW for the soap. A merry birthday indeed.

Been curious about this soap for probably a year or so now. First shave with it this morning proves I have the IQ of a pebble hidden in smeared dog shit. I should have bought this years ago. Slick lather that's not overly protective so allows a super close shave. Really makes something like the original iKon B1 shine. ...as this razor is damn efficient. You get as close as the R41 with this thing. The lather from the i-coloniali was so reassuring that I went a second ATG pass. Yep that good. Post shave feel is superb but even better is that those few pores where I got really close just tingled. No bleeding just tingle and 30 minutes later just feels so so fine. Wonder if that's the Mango Oil at work? Love the scent too. Not at all overpowering, just clean, classic and confident. Next European order will see a spare puck or eight coming to Casa de la Stillsy.

He's a top bloke that @SydBJW [emoji1417]

Fantastic shave mate. Such a pity that your newly discovered soap is now unobtainium... [emoji51]

Not sure that's possible mate. Although rumour is it will be re-introduced later next year. (And by rumour I mean fingers crossed). You are right though, a truly exceptional soap. In my top 5 for sure.
Oh, and nice brush. Every time I see it I wonder what I was smoking when I sold it.

I, for one, applaud your insanity. This is an absolutely amazing collection of resin and roadkill. I very much doubt the purported specifications. 24mm with 50mm loft my left one. Looks almost identical loft as my 46mm shavemac and does not fit into my 25mm stand. I'd say it's more 26/48.

Just wish I knew exactly as I'd be keen to have it replicated

Glad you liked it mate.

I believe the soap will be back mid next year.

Trust me the puck will last a while.
