1. An assessment of blade longevity from someone who wears a beard? Right.

2. I'm with @rhodes96 re the prohibition against wiping the blade. As a daily head&face shaver, there's always a little gunk that remains stuck to my blades when the shave is done, and I can't just leave it there, so I usually have to gently dislodge it with my thumb in the sink or under the tap. No biggie. I'm quite sure it doesn't affect the edge in any way. I flip the blade with every shave.
1. Correct as I can see why he doesn't shave off the goatee, very possible he may have a soft stubble to reach the 400 shaves using the Gillette Nacet (YMMV) only using a milder razor or middle of the road razor or lower?

2. You can rinse the little soap gunk that remains stuck to my blade under the tap with bloody hot water, easy peasy.

I got over 400 from a T&H cartridge razor supplied in the Emirates Business Class amenities bag before starting down the DE path and still have the Bvlgari software
Was sporting a full beard and only shaving lower neck and touchup on cheeks though. Even so, there was something special about that cartridge.

Somewhere, I think I still have a whole shoebox full of Vulgari stuff from Emirates. I don't know why I didn't just throw it out...

The water from the bathroom taps here comes through a tempering valve (stupid plumbing codes) so it's not that hot. (I could boil an egg in the kitchen sink.) And I don't flush it for longer because when you collect water in tanks, you tend to be more conscious of how much you use.

Hey @rhodes96 do you have the b@lls to stand up and become the famous Rhodes96 400 Spartans shave using your choice blade either a Nacet, Minora SS or the old Red & White

My intention with the current blades I am using was to add a Nacet and use all 3 types of stainless blades in rotation in different razors until they no longer are comfortable and efficient enough for a daily shave. That is if I cannot achieve a regular DFS+ from the blade for a daily shave, then the blade will go straight to the blade bin.

I also understand that sometimes the blade will drop down to a DFS in shave quality, this is ok for myself as long as the shave improves again. If the shave does not, then retirement to the blade bin it shall be. I will not accept consistent sub par shaves from any blade! I believe the current shaving practises I have developed for myself will help to towards achieving maximum durability,. If the blades continue to last great, if not, too bad.

So @SpeedyPC to answer your question, there will be no 400 Spartans challenge from myself. ( unless there is a possibility of a new banner :LOL:)

Boiled the bloody kettle while you’re making either tea or coffee, than you can rinse your leftovers sticky soap from the blade.

A balmy winter morning up here on my mountain. I always enjoy it when I can see a blanket of cloud below, leaving everyone else to put up with gloom...

Yes every shave. Consistantly one side is smoother and more efficient than the other after approx 14-17 shaves. This was exactly the same results I experienced with the Gillette Stainless (red & white) which I retired at 33 shaves. The blade at retirement had plenty of life left in it. I learnt several key practises which seem to extend blade life of these Stainless blades.

1. Always remove the blade from the razor and applya 1 wipe over a microfibre towel to each side of the blade and leave to hang dry on magnet holder (thanks @Chad for the idea, works great.) Normally the manufactures say not to wipe the blade. They claim it removes the coating on the blade. My results say BS. Every blade I have practised this way has doubled and some alot more than previous usage I was able to obtain from them. I believe the no wipe of the blade is marketing propaganda so you purchase more blades. YMMV

2. Wet Hand stropping certain blades periodically also helps to maintain the hone on the blade and help restore smoothness and efficiency. This has worked successfully with most good quality Stainless blades and AC single edge blades that I have used. Again YMMV.

I am confident now that I can extent a Nacet blades usage out to around 15-20 shaves, maybe even beyond.

I always disassemble and clean everything where possible, and dry with a microfibre cloth. If a microfibre cloth can damage a blade's coating just like that then something is truly wrong with the blade. I personally just put the blade in the middle of the cloth, and just grab one side of the cloth and gently blot. A gentle wipe in one direction if there's any residue. Then reassemble.

Never thought to strop. Might give that a try.

Pre-shave:- Shower

Had a week of lockdown goatee to remove so broke out the Piccolo. Mowed through it with ease.
The NO2K is a nice soapy citrus scent. Not overpowering with soapy scent and a nice citrusy tone from the rose and black currant
@TroyTools you knocked it out of the ball park with this brush mate it is awesome; soft and luxurious with a good density and splay that holds its shape and not spongey T/H

Shame on you for not using the R41 instead of the Piccolo

I'm all for stretching a blade the distance but at what moment do you sacrifice efficiency for comfort???

Unluckily for me I have sand paper regrowth that requires minimal 2 passes and as much as I enjoy a smooth blade it also has to stay sharp otherwise I'm shaving again come lunch time :(

I hate seeing those guys on YT that can manage an effortless BBS shave in a few quick passes whereas I'm touching up areas due to a thick beard that grows every which direction!!! :wtf:

I appreciate the lengths individuals go to ensuring their blades stay supreme and there have been instances where a blade smooths out past 15 or so shaves but once it loses its efficiency I stop... then again YMMV!

Cheers gents for the suggestions regarding blade storage between shaves. (y)

Thanks @Holiday , really please me that you rate my work:), and that you keep a brush I made sitting amongst many other high quality pieces of equipment in your vast collection:notworthy:.

Cheers, to seeing more of the "Mink Nebula" in future SOTD and Lather Shot posts(y)

Soap: Squadron, Spitfire
Razor: Rockwell Model T (#4)
Blade: Vintage Gillette (1)
Post: Alum block, unknown sample of after balm

Very close shave on setting #4 with the model T.
Raised a small welt on side of the chin with it too.
Few little red spots, all good though with alum and the stick.

Beautiful brush. I think your Arctic Ice handle takes the prize though...
