Shave of the Day Thread - 2022

After the last two days of shaving with a not so good naturally finished edge, it was a pleasure to get back to a smooth comfortable and close shave off diamond pasted balsa. For this morning's shave I chose a Steve Colling custom; ⅞ full hollow with Spanish point (Australia). Face lathered with almost the last of a Palmolive regular cream tube (Italy) and Chinese synthetic brush. Result was a DFS+.

Steve makes a beautiful straight razor, if you can get one. They are almost unattainable now. I may have gotten his last.

Pre-shave:- Cold Shower
Bowl/Scuttle:- Captain's Choice
Brush:- Semogue SOC 2 Band Finest Badger in Cherry Wood 24/53mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Stirling Soap Co ~ Hipster
Razor/Blade:- Merkur 34C / Cloud Super Stainless #4 .... finished
Post/After-shave:- T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel Astringent mixed into the 240ml bottle with Invite E High Potency Pure Oil (10 drops), Natural Plant Glycerin (20) & Tea Tree Oil Antiseptic (5)
Moisturising Cream:- Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Fragrance-Free (for winter season)
Fragrance:- Burberry London for Men

That's it for the Cloud blade, stopped at the 4th shave, and is becoming too tugging and dragging. I've rated this Cloud super stainless the lowest and far worst than the Voskhod.

Sorry @Holiday this is the worst blade and I don't cheat like you palm-stropping.

Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: Troycraft "Opalesque" 28mm AP Shave Co G5C
Soap: Vintage Yardley
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: Shower, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+, Oxford & Cambridge cologne
COTD: Mocha Ismaili, Yemen

The AP G5C is such a great knot for these milled soaps. I've been meaning to ask @TroyTools to make me a handle for a G5A knot that I already have, but I've changed my mind and ordered another G5C for my next brush. Nothing but the best will do for Troy's work. I'll use the G5A to replace the G5B that I have in a CaYuen handle.

As with many Chinese products there are QC issues but then many blades have suffered QC issues including Feather and Voshkod.
I definitely wouldn't be buying 1000 ;)

I get 12 fantastic shaves with the Voshkod on the Merkur 34C/G, without any issue ;) You need to learn to STOP palm stropping, cheating bastard

I've definitely found with Voshkod blades. They're the worse I've ever used followed closely by Treet.

Out of a pack of 5 Voshkods, I've thrown out 2, used 1 once for a full shave and get maybe 2 or 3 shaves out of the last 2 blades. I'm glad I never had to pay for them.

WR2 1.25
Nacet
24mm RR Synthetic
B&M Lavanille
Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel-cream

What a lovely shave, this hydro Boost leaves your skin feeling so soft and smooth, love it

+1 for the Hydro Boost gel, if only it wasn't so expensive for such a little tub but then again a little goes along way.

Yet to try Treet despite having a tuck amongst my sample bundle but agree that Voshkod are a bad blade for my face/beard as way too rough.
Add them to Ladas, Rapira's, Shark's, Wilkies (Blue & Black) = all horrible! :vomit:

A super dooper busy week so no daily posts but didn't take away from the fantastic shaves I had this week using this combination.

Initially I was hesitant to try the Gillette Yellow's and I'm glad I listened to @Gargravarr and Co. as they're such an underrated DE blade that shaves efficiently and smoothly when paired with mid-aggressive razors!

Stay Safe & Happy Shaves!

Hey @Mastropiero are you still begging

I don't mind the black Wilkies myself. I bought a heap of Shark blades and they aren't too bad for my face but I certainly won't be replacing them if or when I finish them.

How many shaves do you get from 3 different types of Shark blades?

I got the Super Stainless ones, and get about 4 shaves out of them. I don't push my blades of any brand any further than that anyway.

The main reason I got back into DE shaving was because of using cartridge blades or disposables for far too long before replacing them and it was playing hell with my skin.

Unfortunately when you are at sea for weeks at a time or away for a 6 month deployment, you try and get what you take with you to last as long as possible.

/ St James of London Black Pepper & Lime
/ Blutt Rasur BR-1 0.99

The Blutt is so good.

Felt really scraggly today so maxed out the Fatboy. The Nordost's scent shows that sometimes simple is best.
