Pre-shave: Hot water, Pears soap
Brush: Forgotten Art "Tarkine" piggy-wig
Soap: Stirling Bergamot Lavender
Razor: Alpha Claymore Evolution
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: Shower, Thayer's Cucumber witch hazel, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+, Stirling Bergamot Lavender EDT
COTD: Mandheling Sumatra

My first time with the Thayer's, now that it's easily available from B&B. They were sold out of the unscented version, so I figured cucumber should be innocuous enough, and I was right. It leaves my skin feeling nice, and doesn't dry it out like the TND.

/ Oumo Goblin Lotustip
/ Noble Otter Rawr
/ Blackland Blackbird
/ Personna Super (2)
/ The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
/ Nivea Skin & Stubble

Thoroughly enjoyed using the Blackbird. The supplied Persona seems to be a great blade too. The NO Rawr reminds me of an Arnott's Lemon Crisp.

Hey Gents, sorry to harp on about the whole Mitchells Wool Fat soap business, but...

I suffer from Seborrheic Dermatitis on the face that decides to flare up when it feels like it, am I dreaming things or does Lanolin have some secret potion behind it that seems to be keeping this at bay?

Don't want to jinx it, but the face has never felt bloody smoother!

I'm now taking the rest of the lather off the brush and using it as a face wash in the shower.

Still a crappy soap to lather, but can't complain about the end result!

Lanolin is a common ingredient used for treating dry skin by reducing cellular moisture loss. It’s possible this is helping prevent flare ups by keeping the skin happy but afaik it doesn’t actually treat dermatitis per se.

MWF does have a high concentration of lanolin which can cause skin reactions like Seborrheic Dermatitis for some people

Have not shaved since Tuesday, have felt a bit run-down probably some post-Covid stuff. Anyway today’s shave featured Stuga Australia – “Cedarwood & Lavender”. Stuga soaps are vegetal based with coconut oil and goat’s milk, the soap comes as 85gm pucks and you can specify a scent strength (regular, double or triple), I normally specify double which cost AU$27.95 per puck and as hard soap they provide twice the value so that equates to 16.5 AU cents/gm which is “Excellent” Bang-for-Buck value.

Shave Result: Stuga soap is a hard but not triple milled, so easy to slice a small portion off the puck (about 1.5gm) and press it into the bottom of my bowl before proceeding with my normal bowl lathering process. Resulting lather was lovely rich, creamy, medium density with excellent slickness, but I think the residual could be better. Played it safe today after Tuesday’s poor shave and went with RockWell 6c on plate #3, result was a smooth clean DFS and no irritations.

I like Thayer's a a lot and I think a lot of its soothing effect is from the glycerin in it. It's the perfect base for a homemade aftershave splash.

SOTD – SUN 3 JUL 2022
Sunday shave features Catie’s Bubbles (CB) - “Tonsorial Parlour”. CB is a vegetal based soft soap recipe and comes in 4oz tubs at US$14.00 which is “Exceptional” bang-for-buck value. Scent described as: “Inspired by my vision of the scents in the high end Victorian Era Tonsorial Parlours. It is scented only with essential oils of bergamot, litsea cubeba, petitgrain, citronella, lavender, geranium and oakmoss absolute. The resulting fragrance blend is bursting with bright citrus, complex florals and a touch of powdery oakmoss.”. Chris Cullen, entrepreneur and Artisan of Catie’s Bubbles, started making soap in 2011.

Shave Result: Scoop a half teaspoon (3.0gm)of soap and press into my lather bowl. The soap quickly produces a rich, creamy, med-high density lather. Lather is a Top performer for me.The scent was as described, a lovely bright citrus and florals with some powdery background, scent strength was 4/10. The Yaqi SS Tile head is very much inspired by the Henson razor, but with more blade feel and efficiency (at least compared to the Henson Mild), I would prefer it a bit lighter though. Overall a smooth, close DFS with just one minor nick.
