When your phone starts buzzing as you step out of the shower you forget to do things like take photos OF YOUR SOTD GEAR ... :(

Seeing other people use a product often inspires my choices of software - thanks @klinker !

You are welcome @Mark1966. But seriously, are you saying that you forgot to take photos of yourself in the shower? :cautious:

LATHER: Declaration Grooming Fake Yellow Light Shave Soap
POST: Declaration Grooming Fake Yellow Light Aftershave Splash

...

First shave with the Tech and I was genuinely surprised how good the shave was.

I think that this is why @Errol rarely reviews vintage razors - doesn't want to show up the modern ones ...

The mighty Minora is probably the best blade so far, but I wouldnt say it tamed the Dart. Still a very close shave with blade feel. Riding the cap mitigated the blade feel somewhat.
The Blackland Dart's name always reminds me of those lines from Paradise Lost:

The other shape,
If shape it might be call’d that shape had none
Distinguishable in member, joynt, or limb,
Or substance might be call’d that shadow seem’d,
For each seem’d either; black it stood as Night,
Fierce as ten Furies, terrible as Hell,
And shook a dreadful Dart...

I always think of the Goggomobile ads.

When he's on the phone saying "G O G G O, not the Dart, they always think it's the Dart".

Aussie Wet Shave:
SOTD-20230215-setup.png

Shave Result: The “Faulding” cream is a budget cream found in many SuperMarkets and Chemist, I call this the “Faulding” cream as some years ago (more than 20) it was promoted by the old “Faulding” company with the same packaging & colours and many shops still list it as Faulding shave cream. The cream quickly produced a good bowl lather, it was plenty slick enough although the residual dried quickly so needed to keep it moist with a wet hand, I find this is common with many shaving creams. The scent smells woody green/herbal, about mid strength. Yaqi Razzo SE had more blade feel than I’m used to from the last few razors and for me above medium aggressive razor, despite that I was to achieve an excellent close shave with just one weeper and some minor irritation on the neck area.

The Gear:

  • Pre Shave: Natio Men Shave Gel [A]
  • Brush: ShaveXDave “Rock Pool” with 26/56 Cashmere [A]
  • Soap: “Faulding” shaving cream (AU$2.65 at Woolies) [A]
  • Bowl: Whisper From The Woods [A]
  • Razor: Yaqi Razzo Lite SE (Katana head with AL Handle)
  • Blade: Sunny Supreme Stainless (1)
  • Splash: TN Dickinsons Witch Hazel with Menthol, T.Tree&Peppermint
  • Balm: Natio Men Calming After Shave [A]
  • After Shave: Imperial Leather AS (also from Woolies)
  • Moisturiser: Swisse Daily Face Moisturiser for Men [A]
[A] = Australian Made

This used to be my dad's favourite shaving cream many many years ago back when it was decent but he stopped using it and went with Palmolive even though he wasn't as happy with it as he was this soap. This was all prior to me being old enough or into shaving. There was a time when wet shaving and the net wasn't what it is today so finding the soaps and creams was kinda blind luck. I know for a fact he used to use Proraso because I found an old broken glass jar with a metal lid (likely the pre shave/after shave) of it in the shed with some nails and screws in it. Strangely when I also used it for the first time many years later it brought back a familiar scent of maybe when he used it when I was really little.

It's a shame faulding couldn't keep it going as from all recollections I heard it was pretty good. I recall going shopping with my parents when I was a kid and my dad picking it at Franklins and tossing it in the trolley. lol

I find that Cella organic is much the same. It loses any residual slickness if you aren't constantly wetting it or being quick. Strangely I never hear people complain about it and go on about the slickness of it so maybe I just got a dud.

Adding a bit of water as you go of a fact of life with any soap, especially if you shave your head as well as your face, as it all takes a bit of time.

Brush: (not pictured) CRV, olive and resin, two bands.
Razor: Humongous Wade & Butcher 1/2 (possibly 3/4) hollow.
Soap: Catie's Bubbles "Black Bergamot" (R&B LE)
After: Catie's Bubbles "Black Bergamot"

Doesn't get any better than this, although I slightly screwed up the lather. I tried a different progression with this razor, it was a very Frankensteinian hone, but it worked great nevertheless.

Always nice to come back to Stirling, even though I was reluctant to commit to a whole tub of anything this time around. But next year, I might just buy a whole bunch of samples like this, just to keep things interesting.
