Hi @SpeedyPC I tried the beginnings of the 14 day cold shower challenge today and could hear each of my 13 stents rattling around in my heart as the cold Adelaide water caressed my chest. I did cold shower years ago and always felt the benefit
of the regime.
Thanks
Steve

Ouch! 13 stents… my father has five…
I can imagine when taking a cold showers and your blood starts flowing through a lot more throughout your whole body, and your arteries has opened up a lot more when taking a cold showers makes you feel a lot better, more energy, awake and alert.

With 13 stents when your arteries open up during cold showers, sometimes the stents hasn’t set within your arteries properly and it’s weird that you can feel something that doesn’t fit right. I would strongly recommend you go back and see your specialist, to have your stent check out if your stents may need readjustment within your arteries.

:) A mildly tongue in cheek comment from me, but thanks for your concern.

Shave Result: As expected a tremendous rich, creamy and stable lather generated from the Blue Devil base. For me the Blue Devil lather is top Tier performer. The lather scent starts of a bit earthy which is quickly brightened by the citrus blend, giving it a lovely peaceful aroma, scent strength 5/10. DFS with the Rockwell on plate #3.

The Gear:

The razor, sadly, isn't mine. I proxied for a mate in Ireland, got it for him on our Spanish forum. The way I enjoy this hobby doesn't involve spending silly amounts of money on unobtaniums, which means I will probably never get my hands on such a beauty. Remarkably, it still has the factory edge, which is pretty crap, yet the end result was fabulous. Granted, I know my way around with a razor, so I am able to get good shaves with sub-par edges, but still. If a poorly honed razor performs like this, properly honed this thing must be an absolute joy to use.

Regarding cold showers, I have been doing it regularly for the last year, up until two weeks ago, when one of my vertebrae decided not to play nice and I decided to stop. Up until then, I'd been doing it no matter the temperatures, did it even in Lapland in November. Why? Well, I'd say it started after chemo. During the worst days of treatment I could not dip my hands in water that wasn't at least warm. Tepid was already too cold and the feeling in my hands was not nice at all, anything colder than that was torture. Ever since, I just embraced cold showers, as a reaction to how much I missed being able to do it during those days.

It feels pretty good actually.

A real musician's razor. Maybe it should stop with you...

I know exactly what you mean about the cold water torture for hands. I have that problem with arthritis, it was a literal career-ender. It makes the long Tasmanian winters difficult without gloves. One of those things about Australia: living in Perth for 20+ years, it seemed every day was getting hotter and muggier, while down here we freeze our asses off for half the year.

I know mate, it certainly is a musician's razor, but I just can't bring myself to spending this amount of money on a blade. To be fair, although there's not many of these laying around, particularly in such great condition, they can be found, all you need is a willing seller and a desire to part with your money. It's pretty easy actually.

I like much better finding unique, interesting razors, or restoring them. Getting an unobtanium like this, the only merit in that is having a good salary.... and that merit wouldn't even be mine, it would be my employer's! 🤣🤣🤣

I have to agree with @Gargravarr that razor seems to require a "Spanish" home. I could never afford one but thanks for sharing such a classic razor. Are Filarmonica blades difficult to come across?
Adelaide weather is ok for a cold show but Lapland or even Tasmania, that would require @SpeedyPC like dedication.

Well, it depends on the model, there's Spanish maked that are considerably more difficult to get your hands on, I am talking about same condition as this one.

The Doble Temple, which is the "entry level" Filarmonica, so to speak, is pretty much dime a dozen. In this condition people usually still will ask for way too much, IMO, dewpite being a very good, but not makes-you-drop-your-pants good blade. I mean, I have Solingens in my collection that are every bit as good as the best DT.

The Novodur and this EPBD are by far the most sought after, thus they are much harder to find, and will fetch quite a nice sum. This one has set my friend back around 575 AUD + shipping. I have seen them go for more.

That doesn't sound too outrageous. When I was plying my craft as a blacksmith, I wouldn't have charged much less for my work, perhaps more if unusual materials (eg Damascus) were involved. (At least when I leaned not to undercharge. That was a hard, but necessary lesson.) But I agree, it makes better sense to restore old razors that you've been able to score at lower cost.
