Pfffft. Not me. Not a fan! Loose storyline that's badly acted. Well I can just watch a few threads here if I needed my fill of that...though I concede some of the light sabres on here are cooler!

Three pass shave. Pressed a small amount of this sample(shavedash.com) into my bowl and before you know it large amounts of a wonderfully scented lather is present. Result is an excellent shave with no irritation just pleasure. Ready for lunch.

My first ever purchase from The Stray Whisker arrived yesterday, so it simply had to be a St James of London Shave. What they call shave cream is what most of us think of as a Croap. It produced a voluminous lather with pleny of cushion and glide when face lathered with the chubby. The fragrance was much more subtle and muted than I expected, but very pleasant nonetheless.

The Ikon Slant DLC did its usual very highly efficient job while making its usual racket, which I happen to love. A single pass was enough for a BBS/DFS, which I think is fantastic, and due in part to the wonderfully sharp and comfortable Polsilver SI blade. @Lifes a Peach and I have been experimenting with Feather and Polsilver blades in a variety of razors, and have had a number of pleasant surprises. Keep an eye on LaP's SOTDs for more on this...

I finished off with a couple of squirts of the St James AS. This is an interesting AS : it contains no alcohol, instead using castor oil and perhaps some other oils as carriers. The net result is that you miss out on that bracing sting of an alcohol based AS, but get a big shot of moisturising oils. I have to say the jury is out on the fragrance of the St James of London products I bought, but in other respects they are undeniably excellent.

Also ready for lunch :) It'll be the last get together of the year for the Melbourne P&C lunch boys, so we're looking forward to a really great time (y)

That's one of the burdens of vintage blades. They almost last too long. Aside from the need to clean the razor (of course you can just take it apart, clean it and use the same blade but I prefer not to handle bare blades if I don't really have to) it's just a bit boring too. There's always a wee bit of pleasure in deciding which one you're going to use next and with vintage blades that only happens at best twice a month.

I might just for something completely different and exciting have another spell of the worst blade in the world shaves.
 
Another warm Adelaide day today just nudging 41c but the straight razor shave was so nice. Smooth and comfortable.



I used the Jarrah handled razor and boy was it different. The scales are really comfortable, the kick above the tang provides a natural finger rest but the real stand out was the wood finished off with the oil and wax. It is a real matte surface and doesn't get any slip when wet. The blade on this one is an inch wide which is much wider than I have used. On the big areas of the face it skimmed over the skin barely touching and removing the whisker but my inexperience showed on the chin and I wisely used a 6/8" to do under the nose.

After today's shave I'm looking at which razor I have and really enjoy as a blade to introduce to a new set of Jarrah scales. My current soap is great. I think I will make a version and add some Peppermint or Tea Tree for the summer shave.

Pulled out all the menthol product I have on hand in preparation for the hot day ahead.
The Stirling Glacial, Obsidian really packs a nice menthol punch. It isn't quite as eye-watering as the Cryogen but leaves a cool feeling for longer post shave.
Splash of F./Extra just before I walked out the door gave me enough cool to get to air-conditioning on the train.

The Baby Smooth and Feather go together like peas and carrots. My best shave wth a Feather blade ever.
More experimenting to do with this blade and other razors over the next few weeks. Next up is a Standard.
Going to keep reaching for this version of Mikes if the heatwave keeps up. Cooling lather that performs like a champion.

A/S: Alum + Fine American Blend

First go with a Voskhod blade, not at all impressed. Felt rough WTG and XTG, surprisingly smooth ATG but didn't remove much in the way of hair. I'll give it a go in my EJ tomorrow but it certainly won't be going back into the 37c anytime soon.

Palm stropping is keeping the edge in pretty good nick. Speaking of nicks, I got one under the lip whilst doing an upwards pass. Lots of claret but it sealed up a few moments later.
 
Did have a shave yesterday, backed up again for my normal Saturday morning ritual.

Razor: Fatboy E3 (5)
Blade: La brune française Wilkinson Sword, fabriqué en Angleterre (5)

I am pretty pleased with these 'French' Wilkies, they give a top-class shave even when you are well into the second half of their life. So pleased I grabbed what remained of them.

The Razorock is rather soft, makes it difficult to load without sucking up pure soap into the brush. The lather produced from the Plissitane was very good, not to the level of say a Shaver Heaven or Barrister & Mann, but certainly surprised me at how well it went with a good loading. The scent is pretty good also.

Post-shave: Ogallala Bay Rum, Lime & Peppercorn

Conventional wisdom is that Feathers are the sharpest but good for just 2 shaves. I've tossed them out after 2 previously.
Shave 3 was very good. No tugging or scrapes. I feel that the blade does peak on shave 2 but still very good on the 3rd.
Another day with Mikes. You are spot on, @alfredus - it's a very good soap. Back in the Top 5 (y)

Still going on the Beaver Woodwright Ghost Ship sample from @SydBJW - fantastic soap, if this is indicative of their broader line of product it would be a (y)(y)(y) range!

Talking about still going - I looked back through previous SOTD entries to find when I started with the vintage Schick Super Platinum blade - seems to be about 14 days I've been shaving with this one. I will swap it out tomorrow but could possibly get another week if I was desperate, great blade.

Reinforcing my razor/blade combo theory the vintage Schick Super Platinum works really well in the Slim - the previous vintage Wilkie not so much, but it works fine in other razors. I re-state my claim -

It is NOT the razor,
It is NOT the blade,
It is the razor AND the blade that need to be assessed as a unit.​

Now, to the new kid on the block. From @shavetheman's shop, my sample of their after shave balm. See the ingredients here along with their description:



Both my wife and I recognise something familiar about it scent wise but cannot place it. It is only lightly mentholated, certainly no big 'zing' which I'm not looking for anyway. Seems pleasant and moisturising without being sticky or clammy. First impression is pretty good IMHO.

Sounds to me the razor is at fault @Nightguard - Voskhods are top blades :D :D :D

I think you have to add a big DSDF (copyright @Pjotr) to that statement. When I first started wet shaving I liked voskhods, now I can't stand them especially with adjustables.
The last three blades I tried lasted one pass each before being deposited in the bin. I gave the rest away.
