What about cloth/denim ?

After tonight's shave I stropped it against my thigh in my thin cotton shorts. The blade feels very sharp on the thumb pad.

surprisingly great shave this morning.

first time with the strop shoppe - what a great slick lather for straights..and that teakwood scent. oh yeah!. Thanks @SydBJW

first time with the Dovo Inox. My expectations were low - as most have little regard for modern steel let alone big names like Dovo. But it held a nice edge - Chosera 1k, Shaptons 5, 8 & 12K, wet jnat (no slurry) finish. Damned sharp. Could be smoother so I might try polishing with some nagura on the weekend.
So the Dovo was bought as a starter for some newbie but instead I might see how she fares....might prove an OK travel razor.

Pre-Shave PAA Mentholated ICE Scentless Pre-Shave Soap
Brush The Grooming Co Synthetic
Soap Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary Edition
Razor Gillette Super Speed
Blade Persona Blue Med Prep
Post Shave Dickson's Original Witch Hazel
Aftershave Myrsol F./Extra

Same shave for the past three days. Absolutely love the lather of the SV and the scent is great. Loading with the synth is a dream and I'm not managing to keep the majority of the lather on my face when face lathering, rather than all over the bench and sink.
Looking forward to bringing out the menthol 'big guns' for the upcoming heat wave down here.

That's almost pornographic. What is it with you straight shavers? You lose all sense of perspective.

Wednesday's Shave

20151216_zpsmoun7nbr.png

Face Wash : PAA Menthol Glycerine Soap
Pre-Shave : Myrsol Emulsion
Brush : Simpson's Wee Scot
Soap : Tabac Shavestick
Razor : Zubari Hoshimasa #1
After Shave : Argan Oil
After Shave Splash : Floid Blue EDT

My Sensei of Sharpening (@Mark) was telling me recently that when it comes to Jnats and razors, one size doesn't fit all : different razors (steel types?) respond differently to different sharpening regimes, and the only way to find out what works best is to experiment. Armed with that bit of knowledge I've been experimenting on a couple of razors that I suspect have been underperforming. Last night it was the Zubari Hoshimasa's turn. It's shaved pretty well but I've always felt that there may be more to offer. I tried 3 different approaches to finishing the edge, and one of those was clearly superior to the others. So I went back and gave the razor 100% using that method, and put it aside for this morning...

I face lathered again using the Wee Scot and Tabac shave stick. (I'm getting more comfortable with face lathering by the day, and loving the Wee Scot too). Then with quite a sense of anticipation started shaving. Oh wow! The Zubari Hoshimasa really felt like a completely different razor. Smooth and unbelievably sharp. One pass with it produced an effortless DFS, and after the second pass plus a little spot control, BBS all the way. I finished with the usual Argan Oil blend, then an intensely enjoyable splash of Floid Blue EDT.

I've learned a great sharpening lesson here, and am looking forward to figuring out how to get the very best from all my razors. I suspect I may also have gained a justification for acquiring more Jnats

OK,
This mornings shave Barrister and Mann Seville shave soap what can i say an excellent soap lathers well slickness is great smells fantastic and post shave felt very good, this will be in my top 5 soap rotations.

Also gave the Voskhod blade a try never used one before, loaded the blade in my Edwin Jagger DE89.

First pass pretty good the blade seemed to give louder audible feedback to what I'm used to, this was confirmed when i got to the chin area being thicker whiskers and it seemed that i had to work the razor harder to achieve a good mowing down of the whiskers but this was no problem it still did a good job and no irritation it also did not feel as smooth on my skin as my other blades that i use GSB & Personna Red.

Second & third pass same as the first did a clean up of the neck area.

Post shave finished of with pinaud clubman & Proraso Blue Balm face felt good no irritation and smooth,

My conclusion, to me the blade is not in the same category as the Gillette Silver Blue or Personna Red, Not as sharp in my opinion the razor had to be worked harder to achieve the same results as the other blades that i use also it does not glide as smooth as my other blades but still a good performer and gave me a DFS.

B&M Seville is an excellent barbershop scented soap. [emoji106]

Try the Voskhods in different razors. Blades work differently in each razor. They may work better in another razor. (Was I saying this yesterday as well?!)

Yes i will evaluate the Voskhod to see how it performs on my other razors i wonder how it will perform in my Muhle R41 being an eggressive razor time will tell

@JugV2 loves the Voshkods in his Muhle R41 and others find they pair well with the FatBoy adjustable.

Brush: Shavemac #177
Soap: Barrister & Mann Adagio
Razor: Kirby Beard
Blade: Personna Lab Blue [2]
After-shave: Myrsol Emulsion

Lovely shave. The KB is smooth and efficient. A well balanced razor with a well sized handle.

A bit quiet around here...perhaps the Star Wars fanatics are a little tired this morning. [emoji12]

I'm very surprised we haven't seen people change their avatars to pictures of Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader or in the case of the straight shavers, Princess Lea. Let's face it, she has the smoothest skin of all.

Gillette Super Stainless on 8 (I think)

It's one of those endless: "When is this blade going to die 'cause I really need to clean my razor", sequences.

I'm having the same issue with a Vintage Gillette Rubie.

A shaved Chewbacca looks like how I imagine most of you lot
