OK - before somebody gets hurt ....

A reminder of where all this started - with the last sentence deleted (y)

Brush:
Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Pre-Shave: Occams Original Pre-Shave Soap
Soap/Cream: Occams Original Shaving Cream
Razor: Gillette L1 Slim - set on 7
Blade: Vintage Schick Platinum Plus
After-shave: Occams Original Aftershave Balm - oh wait, it is not made - Pens 1870 balm

Well my last S.O.T.D was allegedly a month ago (here) - not sure what I've been doing since!

The Slim on 7 is VERY different to the Eclipse Red Ring - much more aggressive and I had to take a little more care.

I used the Occams Original Pre-Shave Soap to create a lather on my face in the shower. The scent is sensational! It was disappointing to have to rinse it off when I got out.

The Occams Original Shaving Cream is a very effective cream. Lathers easily, good glide, moisturising on the skin. In fact it probably saved my face on the first pass from the far more aggressive Slim as I got used to things. The scent is not as strong/the same as the pre-shave soap - that would be my only regret but of course YMMV.

Finished off with Occams Original Aftershave Balm - or I would have if it was available and had the scent of the soap :) Instead I used one of my favourites the Pen's 1870.

I presume that @Occams is sticking to what he knows and just doing soaps and creams but a balm in that scent would be fantastic IMHO.

Gosh Mark what a great post (reminds me of something I have read recently) - different ending though sounds like the perfect shave for a public holiday and I am sure that you are now fit to mingle with all levels of society. Well done with the Slim.

I'd respond but I've banned myself :)

To clarify @stillshunter lives in NSW. He just comes into CBR to take our jobs, use our facilities and basically trash the place ...
Yet you're still posting!

There's a difference between before and after ?

@Mark1966 will certainly consider this... Do you guys all use balms / other aftershave treatments? More or less so after different types of creams and soaps?

@Occams If I've had a shave that's irritating, I use some form of product.
I also use it upon occasion to condition the skin if it's dry etc.

I use a aftershave balm after every shave. My skin tends to dry out so I always want it soothed and moisturised.

I think most of us do. To me a shave is not complete without an aftershave.

In my world -
  • aftershave splash = alcohol based, varying degrees of sting, 'tones' the skin
  • aftershave balm = moisturiser based, less if any sting, moisturises the skin
I'm probably wrong with those characterisations but I'm sure I will be corrected.

In my perfect world I use a 'set' of products all with the same scent that work together.

Splash for me. Something with a load of menthol.

Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: D R Harris Marlborough Shaving Soap
Razor: Gillette L1 Slim - set on 7
Blade: Vintage Schick Platinum Plus - shave 2
After-shave: Ogallala Bay Rum, Limes and Peppercorns

Early start for the first flight from CBR. The Slim on 7 is aggressive and needs some care - not conducive to an early start and a couple of nicks.

I don't get on well with hard soaps - the lather from the DR Harris wasn't the best so that probably didn't help.

Went to the Ogallala to finish - the sting of the bay rum to seal the nick and the goodness of the other ingredients to heal :)

Ended up OK and in the lounge about to board - have a great day all!

RIP - Rik Mayall ....

I started down the penitent route - splashing my face with Proraso Green. But one day I saw the light - in the wake of its brilliance I now use Razorock's Aftershave Wax. It is a revelation. It just seems to have all the mana by face needs after being hacked at at differing angles by a sliver of metal.

Love it if @Occams could produce something similar. Oh and the smell of the Original is absolutely divine.

Oh my! The first piece of actual moderation work to take place at P&C. Poor Drubs, he must be feeling conflicted now. I can picture him at the sink furiously washing his hands "out, out foul spot"

Alas, Lady MacDrub, the die have been cast and cannot be recalled. You are a real moderator now.

And all over Betty Windsor...not sure what the fuss was, she always looks clean shaven to me

So you use the original aftershave wax? What's it like on your face, oil, greasy?

Where do you procure it from?

Pee One Sixty Morbido
830 Schemogue
Slim (7,7)
Spoiler (?)
alum
ASB

Much better shave today.

I wonder how our NT member is holding up with the death of his avatar's flat mate.

Not really SYD - you have to go back a year or so for Drubbings first real moderating stuff. If you look at the comment under my Avatar it will indicate why I know this for a sad painful fact :)

I absolutely love the Razorock Original AS Wax. The term 'Wax' is a misnomer as it's more a thick cream. Goes on slightly greasy but my skin (which is normal to oily) sucks it up immediately. I'd say it's all in where it needs to work within 2 minutes and doesn't block pores, which can happen with my skin. I scored my tub from the ShaverHut and will order more soon. My thoughts are to always have a fresh spare….as Razorock has a tendency to discontinue their products and speaking to Joe from IB recently he says the AS Wax is quite pricey to make.

Let me know how you go.

Got some 888 wax due at work tomorrow. Would have loved some original but out of stock & I'm an impatient kind of guy. Oh and I got a pack of feathers to try...

Gillette Slim (5) x 2 passes
Astra (3)
Mystic Waters Irish Traveller shave soap
Semogue Mistura
Acqua di Parma AS

The "Slim Experiment" that commenced last week is going quite well. In my Welcome Mat introduction I mentioned that the razor was somewhat harsh. Today's shave, performed on a 4-day growth, was close, smooth, and irritation free. After so many years of using the 34C I just needed a few tweaks to my technique. Maybe the longer handle or the bulkier head. Who knows?

The last scraps from a sample of MW, rubbed directly onto my face, and groomed with the Mistura, resulted in 2 decent pass lathers. It's a great soap that unfortunately has a bad rep for latherability. I don't seem to have a problem but many will say otherwise.

My Slim experiment will continue for the rest of the week in preparation for next week's bad daddy, the R41.

@stillshunter - Hope you land that Slim soon.

Sorry mate answered as quickly as I could.
I'm sure the 888 will be just as good in action - I'm thinking Razorock is sweet sweet stuff. Keen to hear how you go.
Hey if you can figure a way to PIF it - I'm buggered if I can think of an effective way…don't be surprised if you find a little leakage into your package….I did - anyway if you can think of a way to share it, let me know and (if you are interested) we might swap equal amount to get a taste of both?

Sounds like a deal sir! I will see what I can work out. The one razorock product that's caught my eye is the cumba cheech (orange blossom & jasmine)
