Post: Blue Devil Shave Co. The Lavender Patch splash
WTG, ATG, Touchups = BBS

Its been a while since I shared a SOTD post and what better excuse than when you receive a care package from @Pbgoose with a large sample of his newest soap and first impressionas are that the scent is a real winner when compared to my other lavender themed soaps. I've been lucky enough to sample some other scents he's made and the soap base is amongst some of the best I have tried so I wasn't missing the chance to test the new soap once it arrived!

I'll admit I'm not a fan of lavender soaps as most smell like those cheapo garbage bags or a mixture of scents so I was intrigued to see how this one would stackup and the smell is delightful and the closest example I have to a traditional lavender scent. Its not overly sweet with some smokey over tones that I found myself going back to admire the scent and it was equally pleasant when lathering so a real winner from me!

There's not much to add regarding performance as the soap whipped up nicely with good slickness and premium post shave feel that I really didn't need any aftershave product but I couldn't resist grabbing some Blue Devil's Lavender Patch to finsih off what was a very enjoyable shave... If only we could convince our busy mate to produce some LE tubs for purchase as I'd be first in line to buy as you know you're getting premium home made soap using natural ingredients and the selection of scents is unique and pleasant... OK the bush fire themed one was a bit too smokey but it takes a lot to upset my nose, so I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. Cheers... 🍻

Pears is good enough to use as a shaving soap, for those who are on a tight A$$ budget or a cheapskate. And maybe a spoiled little brat cheapie like @Mycroft47 Holmes, who loves and can’t give up on high quality whisky, wine and cigars so much.
A spoiled little brat……. There it is again, Dear Sir I should protest……. But then again it is you and allowances should be made in the interests of this fine forums golden rule. You got away with it again.
Well done!

Rubbish, Pears soaps has been around since 1789 for straight razors.

Try not to destroy @SpeedyPC's illusion. He is the reason why men get into SR shaving 😊.
Bicker all you want ladies and gentlemen, Pears (at least in the formulation they were using until the early noughties) works "well enough" for shaving with any type of razor, so long as you have no expectations re cushion etc. I personally think "cushion" is an overrated characteristic, and for shaving with straights it's completely irrelevant IMO.

I would advise NOT following my example, using Pear's as a shaving soap unless you
(a) are a cheapskate or desperately poor
(b) have something to prove
(c) are a masochist.

But as I mentioned earlier, it's a great pre-shave. Same could most likely be said of just about any other decent bath soap.

BTW, referring to your elders and betters as spoilt brats is asking for a cluebat to be inserted where the sun doesn't shine. Just sayin'...

@rbscebu, or @SpeedyPC (or other Forum members) I've seen many sites on soaps by scent, gm per $ value, numerous reviews, fat V non-fat performance, brand A v brand B, etc etc etc!!
But is there anything you are aware of that lists/shows/gauges soap variances (slickness quality etc) for DE vs SR users?
Just interested re the comments above on the Pears?
There is nothing out there that I have noticed. I and others have tried soaps that DE shavers rave about and found them very much wanting in performance, no matter how I prepare the lather. The same has occurred with DE shavers using some soaps that SR shavers rave about.

I think all this has to do with DE and SR shavers having different desires from their lather. SR shavers only have the razor's edge/bevel in contact with their face. DE shavers have to contend with much more in contact with their face.

Pears and many other bath-type soaps do work as a SR shaving soap but not well. There are other soaps out there that are noticeably better than Pears for SR shaving that are about the same price.

@SpeedyPC is the soap expert. With his experience, I am sure that he knows exactly what SR shavers are looking for in their soap.

Nice to get back into the Stirling again. These little 3oz containers are quite a good size for travel, so I think I shall add this one to my wash bag.

I too wait in patience for that DE V SR Soap list!!🤞

Never gonna happen, and even if it does, YMMV! Too many variables involved. Hard water/soft water, dense lather/thin lather, etc, etc, etc. "The only thing that really matters is the shave test"!

@LesC what he said, way too many YMMV and it’s not bloody worth it.
