Is that actually the Manchurian? 2 bands are very interesting, keen to try one out.

@silver the Duke 3 and the Berkeley 46 is not a Manchurian, because the Manchurian is far more expensive than the Best Badger ;) is around $480 AUD

Duke 3 and Berkeley 46 both are Best Badger 2-band brush
Are you sure the Duke 3 and Berkeley 46 Best badger brushes are 2 band? I've only ever seen them as 3 band brushes. In fact, from my experience Simpsons tend not to describe their brushes as either 2-band or 3-band. I've only seen some Chubby brushes as true 2-band brushes.
Can anyone else confirm? @Nightguard @alfredus @Draco Noir @borked or anyone else who knows Simpsons...

Yea it's a very proud looking brush. If only my missus could see what I see. To her it's just another bunch of hair... She even asked me why not get the body shop ones? Same same. No.... It's not...

Still getting a few lose hairs every once in a while. I guess with a brush this dense, it's no biggie.

Body shop? Yeah - no.

@filobiblic I've bought the Berkeley 46 2-band Best Badger as a limit edition which is very similar size and flex as a Duke 3 Best below

Nice looking brush there. That density. wowzors.
Now I truly understand, why you are reluctant to sell your other half of your liver, and the other remaining kidney.

The brush in the video is definitely 2-band. [emoji106] As I said, I've only seen the Chubbies as 2-bands in the Simpsons range. They don't usually use the language of 2-band (unlike Thater, Shavemac, Rooney).

@filobiblic IF I'm not mistaken and I cannot find a website to tell you the difference in the Chubby version from 1 to 3, from the back of my head if I'm not mistaken

Chubby 1 Best = 1-band
Chubby 2 Best = 2-band
Chubby 3 Best = 3-band

SOTD (21/4/16 - Pontresina, Switzerland)

Razor:
Gillette Sensor Excel
Blade: Gillette Sensor Excel Cart (4)
Brush: Muhle Travel Synthetic
Soap/Cream: D R Harris Arlington Shave Stick
Aftershave: Floid Vigoroso

Cart on the way out already :( Now I remember why I hated them.

Interestingly every bottle I opened this morning (shampoo, conditioner, aftershave) 'popped' because of the pressure difference between Paris (35m) and Pontresina (1,805m).

Our train journey today rises to 2,253m, or 1.4 miles, above sea level.

Thanks for the comments guys - SOTD itself if pretty boring so trying to liven things up with other pics. This is my actual view as I type -

@Mark1966 - beautiful scenery in Switzerland, I amreally jealous! Miss the snow from time to time - if only it was feasible to go back to Austria for just 1 week skiing...and have some of my favourites dishes :ROFLMAO:

@SpeedyPC: If the part of the knot that comes out of the handle is black and then there is a silver/grey/white part on top of that, it is called 2-bands - only 2 bands (1 black, 1 white) are visible.

The knot has a third (white/silver/grey) band bellow (in the handle) but you can't see it.

In a 3-band, the first part out of the handle is white/grey/silver then there is (much thinner) black part and the top part is again white/grey/silver.

The Simpson naming can be confusing, as up until a couple of years ago, you could also get a 2-band in Best and Super (like in your video).

But these days Simpson Best and Super grades are always 3-bands and the 2-bands come only in SiLVERTIP and Manchurian.

Now this is only the factual knowledge - I can't comment on any of the Simpson 2-band characteristics, as I have only tried Simpson Best and Super grades...

Pre-Shave: Occams pre-shave soap, cold water
Razor: IKON DLC Slant with long Bulldog handle
Blade: Ladas (1)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac 2-band Silvertip
Lather: Mike's Lime
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

5 days of growth and I almost felt like a hippie :D Even my wife, who sometimes prefers a 1-2 day growth said I was to scritchy....

The razor was actually on my chopping block and this was supposed to be one of the last shaves with it...WRONG! I really had a wonderful close and smooth shave - with some heavenly lather (seen in the lathershots). The razor mowed down my beard with zero effort and after 2 passes the only evidence for the 5 days of growth was in the sink.

Awesome photo. Whilst I doubt if it'll ever be my daily driver, nothing beats the iKon Slant for effortlessly tackling 4/5 days growth.

...with a Wolfy

Brush:
Wolf Whiskers TGN 22mm in Finest
Soap: Martin de Candre
Razor: British Best
Blade: Solingen Timor (4)
After: Thayers & Christian Dior Fahrenheit

The blade is holding up nicely with no signs of degradation just yet.
British Best is not smoothest razor going around but the results were superb. Much better than yesterdays effort with the Weber.
The Wolf Whiskers was a gift to my son and he's done a top job breaking it in. This was my best lather with MdC to date.

Thanks - that is very kind of you!

I think slants are generally very good at that. Although a mild razor, the RRSS also has zero problems with multiple days of growth.

Now lets see if I can enjoy the next shave with the IKON as well...

Very cool picture my friend [emoji106]

No picture but a great shave and yes :) it did happen.

Recently @khun_diddy and I made a trade and I now have a rather nice Japanese hone. This afternoon I took an old 5/8" Solingen and honed it from bevel up through the Jnat progression of nagura slurry stones to a few passes on plain water. "I think" a Jnat is the cure for H.A.D but it may not be a cure for Jnats that lasts long as I already have different stones in my ebay favourites - just looking.

Pre shave hot towels, pre lather.
Prepare scuttle lather - 24mm Horse hair brush
Soap was my Sandalwood/Tallow
Razor freshly honed Solingen 5/8"
A bit of witch hazel to finish.

Brush: Shavemac 177
Soap: DR Harris Lavender
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Feather
Post: alum, Thayer WH, Aesop Moroccan neroli

Lather wasn't great today, loaded the puck with a wetter than usual brush. As a result, it was foamy and airy. Learnt the hard way, I must keep brush dry enough to load up, slowly adding drops of water to create a creamy thick paste, before applying it to face.

Little razor burn today, will consider taking a day's break tomorrow to let my skin heal up a little. [emoji22]

Preshave: Proraso Red
Razor: Standard
Blade: Solingen Timor
Brush: Vie Long Horse
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica
Post Shave: Alum and then Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica AS
Three pass shave. First use of this blade and its just not for me. Sharp enough but just not smooth for me. The soap was superb as usual, in my top five. The SPV after shave is a cross between a balm and an after shave and is very soothing while also moisturising without any greasy feel at all. All in all a DFS.
