Shave of the Day Thread - 2016

No picture but a great shave and yes :) it did happen.

Recently @khun_diddy and I made a trade and I now have a rather nice Japanese hone. This afternoon I took an old 5/8" Solingen and honed it from bevel up through the Jnat progression of nagura slurry stones to a few passes on plain water. "I think" a Jnat is the cure for H.A.D but it may not be a cure for Jnats that lasts long as I already have different stones in my ebay favourites - just looking.

Pre shave hot towels, pre lather.
Prepare scuttle lather - 24mm Horse hair brush
Soap was my Sandalwood/Tallow
Razor freshly honed Solingen 5/8"
A bit of witch hazel to finish.

What!! I thought you decided to keep that some @khun_diddy? Something about nightmares...

Brush: Shavemac 177
Lather wasn't great today, loaded the puck with a wetter than usual brush. As a result, it was foamy and airy. Learnt the hard way, I must keep brush dry enough to load up, slowly adding drops of water to create a creamy thick paste, before applying it to face.

Funny you should say that. I think I have broken my MWF getting carried away keeping it hydrated. I had read that if it dries out it's a pain to lather and the puck cracks up. So I had been "irrigating" it to keep it wet. Now, even with a completely dry brush all I get is dry foam that fades. I've left the lid off the container for a week but it still does it no matter how slow I add water. Might put it outside for a bit...

Oh no I hope that isn't the case with my lavender puck. I do use it every once a week or so. I'll give it another go next run, with a dryer brush.

Do keep me updated about how the MWF goes. Will be handy information to know.

Pre: GFT Lime skin food
Brush: SOC
Soap: SH Drogon Noir Tallow V2
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Feather
Post: alum, Thayer WH, TSW Asb Sample

Couldn't resist not shaving for one day. Got off work early today, had the whole bath room to myself.

The SOC is an incredible brush. I really love it. This is an excellent example of a great boar brush. It destroyed any soap I fed it. It sure is a hog (as in it eats anything, not picky. Not lather hog)

Now, the soap. It's fantastic and I love it. No irritation, great thick massive cushion of lather here. No mucking around.

Shave today was great. It is imperative that preparation is required for a great shave. Good lather = good shave.

Another damn fine shave.

Another day, another cart shave ...

Did walk past here and take a quick shot (despite protestations from tired family wanting to get to accommodation) -

It is just around the corner - it would be rude NOT to drop in ...

Glad tomorrow is the day to change to a new cart, this is getting pretty ugly. I noticed the 5 o'clock shadow very much back yesterday, I thought that these things were meant to give you a great shave ?

Not quite the view from my window, the view from Piazzale Michelangelo on top of the hill on the southern side of the city just outside the old city walls. The classic Florence photo-op.

I'm still tossing up what my son was most excited about yesterday, it may just be picking up an Assassin's Creed t-shirt here in Florence after walking across the Ponte Vecchio where I'm told it all started ...

Pre:
Musgo Real Glyce
Razor: Gillette NEW LC
Blade: Polsilver SI
Brush: Razorock Plissoft Synthetic
Soap: I Coloniali
Aftershave: Floid Suave

A very orange shave today.
Very much enjoying the NEW. Compared to the Landrover drive of the iKon Slant, or the Cadillac drive of the Fatboy this is a racy Mini comfortably zipping round my face.
A splash of Floid and I'm ready for Passover Seder mark 2.

Saturday smooth.....

Face Wash : Musgo Real Lime Menthol Glycerine Soap
Pre-Shave : Myrsol Emulsion Preshave
Brush : Shavemac Custom
Soap : Meissner Tremonia Dark Limes
Razor : Cedric Christ custom kamisori
After Shave : Alum, Witch Hazel/Aloe Vera, Lipikar Balm, Speick AS

Plenty of time on my hands today, so I kicked back into a very relaxed shave indeed. I'm liking this Meissner Tremonia soap more by the day - great fragrances and really excellent lather. Adding the custom Shavemac to the process resulted in a near perfect lather today. The Cedric Christ kamisori was, well, majestic as usual. It really is a beautiful razor to use - smooth, close and agile. I always have a smile on my face after shaving with it. Today was no exception - I ended up seriously smooth and with a great face feel from the Meissner Tremonia soap.

A really enjoyable shave and a great start to the business end of the day. I hope you all had excellent shaves too :)

Even more jealous - I truly love Firenze - a friend once said, the whole city is like walking in a beautiful museum - and it is absolutely true.

If you have a bit of time, try to wander around south of the Arno - that's where you find the good food ;)
