Razor:

Blade: Personna Med Prep
Aftershave: Thayers and Myrsol Agua Balsamica

Thanks to @Mark1966 's early morning call out and Mike's was an easy choice for this morning's lathering up.

Spot on! Had a chat with @Draco Noir earlier today and I used a different expression to describe my fondness of Mikes especially after 30 days with Speick.. It punches exceptionally well above it's weight for a soap that costs around $US11. Right up there with the more expensive soaps.
Keen to try them but the scents I'm after are always out of stock.

@silver which scent the soap or the aftershave are always out of stock perhaps I can help you ;)
I'm keen with the Hungarian lavender. But now that I read the actual ingredients used in barbershop, it actually sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Barbershop scent has always been an enigma for me. It's not a great description of what it is. But mike's version consists of Bergamot, basil, Oakmoss and patchouli. I might give that a shot. Using shipito and snail economy mail.

@silver check here you might get lucky what your looking for ;) http://www.giftsandcare.com/en/ and you can used the P&C code to get 10% off I think you better double check?

Brush: Vintage Butterscotch Simpson #5 Best Badger
Soap: Shaver Heaven - Bay Rum
Blade: Magnetic Platypus. 5/8 "Extra Hollow"
Post: Thayers, PAA - Malbolge

Thoroughly enjoyed the shave today. It's been a while since I have used the Platypus and I don't remember it being this good. Very light and nimble. Brush is so so soft but could use some backbone. Still, love using it because it's like putting your face into a cloud.

Great picture @Sxot (y)

Mike's Hungarian Lavender is out of this world - and I like Lavender in general. His is well worth the wait. Just keep and eye on his facebook page - he announces everything there. And if you look carefully - it all comes in similar cycles - he is a scientist after all ;)

Mike's is only sold through Mike's - and Mike's kann durch nichts ersetzt werden :D

Sorry, but this ad from my childhood came into my brain while typing (Butter instead of Mike's), basically meaning you can't replace butter with anything else - and the same goes for Mike's...please scroll down to my SOTD

Pre-Shave: Occams pre-shave soap, cold water
Razor: ATT S-1 Colossus
Blade: Ladas (1)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac
Lather: Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I had this one planed for at least a week and couldn't wait for all the Maydness to be over. Don't get me wrong, I love MW, but a month without Mike's is very hard...the lather was stellar and a picture can be found here.

The S-1 with the Colossus handle is in my den now permanently due to the generosity of @Draco Noir - and what a difference the handle makes. The razor is super effective and half a day later my skin is still silky smooth - thank you again my friend (y)

@Lifes a Peach how your Razorock Stealth Slant coming along throughout your shave? since I own a Razorock Mission ;)

The Stealth Slant is an interesting razor to shave with. The exaggerated hype at the time of release turned into disappointment for me, but I am starting to click with it.

Keen to try them but the scents I'm after are always out of stock.

You can follow Mike on twitter ( twitter handle @MikesNatSoaps ) and he'll give you a heads up when a particular soap is ready for pre-order.

Cheers, already did!

Thanks for the tip!

Soap: Jabonman Brisa de Oriente

As always a great shave with the Jabonman soap. The scent of the Brisa de Oriente is just fantastic. I really don't think that there's a nicer smelling soap around, certainly none I've tried.

Apologies for the essay, you're probably getting sick of reading them by now so I thought I'd include at a FRAT (F#*! Reading All That) version at the bottom of the post.

@Draco Noir gave me a call today and we had a good chat about shaving and while we were at it I think I can pretty confidently say we solved most of the world problems, well the important ones at least! Prior to speaking to Draco I was going to shave using a D/E today, I didn't want to but I figured if I nick myself 4-5 times as I have every time I've used the straight (though minor) it will get to a point where it is not sustainable pretty quickly. I thought if I mix it up and use the Kamisori every second shave I will give my face some extra time to heal, however after speaking to Draco I was really excited to see his advice put into action.

Basically I was getting my ambition confused with my abilities, my words not his, he was far more tactful! Draco told me the reason I was nicking myself was likely due to using to much pressure and not letting the weight of on the razor do the work. I wasn't using and maintaining the correct angle depending on the pass and he advised to stick to a WTG and XTG pass for the time being and not worry about an ATG just yet. Everything Draco had picked up from my SOTD posts were spot on and I really appreciate all his words of wisdom including putting some nice relaxing music on in the background. I resisted the urge to put on some ACDC (as I probably would have decapitated myself) and went with some Crowded House instead.

I had a really good 2 pass shave (no ATG) with some clean up. I still have difficulty around the chin, jawline and neck but utilising a couple of tips from Draco I was able to find and maintain the right angle for each pass a lot easier. That combined with focusing on letting the weight of the razor do the work resulted in a great shave. Unfortunately a split second lapse of concentration resulted in a tiny nick, I thought I had got away with it until I saw a tiny drop of blood forming. I was both annoyed and happy at the same time, annoyed that i was really hoping for a nick free shave but happy that I only nicked myself once and even more so that I understood what I had done to cause it.

Third time shaving with the Kamisori I fell like I've made some great progress compared too my first couple of shaves thanks entirely to @Draco Noir.

FRAT: Third shave with the Kamisori and thanks to Draco's advice only nicked myself once rather than 4-5 times due to poor technique. Best shave yet!

Soap: SdM
Razor: Standard Razor

Still having difficulty lathering the ass soap with a badger. Even a 2 band! Ended up with razor burns all over the chin. It's been a while since I had burns like this. I did a test lather after the shave, listening to @alfredus advice to load dry and long, add drops of water slowly. Then keep doing that, to the point that I am building lather on the puck. The second lather produced a better result. Basically my problem is that the lather for second and third pass gets dry and pasty by the time I get to the chin area. And adding water at this point does not much but dilute the crappy lather because of poor loading. With great lather, you can feel the blade glides voluntarily. Have to give the ass soap a break until face heals.

Standard razor - @Lifes a Peach.
Wow, it's probably the most vocal razor I have. So much blade feel. Partially contributing to my razor burn I suppose. But it's not that aggressive like my slant. The slant bites and nicks, this doesn't. I can see that with good lather, it will be a good shave. Feel of the razor is very interesting. Aluminium body, truly different feel. Thanks @Osman for the heads up. Got a good deal through mass drop. I just need more time to learn the razor. Will be using this for a while. Will update.

Sorry for the long post.[emoji2]

Well done for your first go with the standard. It is light so fight the temptation to apply pressure. Trust the razor and your technique and remeber no pressure. Take your time and enjoy.

Likewise, thanks @Osman my Standard razor arrived the other day via the mass drop deal.

I like the longer post, as someone who is still very new to wet shaving it really helps fast track my learning curve being able to benefit from other people's experience. I also find it's a great way to really analyse the good and not so good bits of your last shave. I may or may not be in the minority but for me at this stage of my wet shaving journey, I find these sorts of posts invaluable. Keep it up @silver! (y)

Mr 77 seems to almost be an ever present in your sotds recently.
Every second or so. So efficient and I usually only shave every second day or so. I've also taken a liking to it. You'll see soon enough... [emoji6]

I was so excited when a NOS 1950's straight razor arrived the other day - until - I had a good look. The blade had a definite bow in the spine. Such a bummer. Most on here have heard of the "gentle persuader" commonly know as the hammer. Tempered steel is very hard and can be brittle but as it stood the razor looked great but totally useless, so what the heck. I used a piece of wood as the pounding implement and after many thumps in the razor's back the spine started to straighten. It took me about 10 minutes of hammering and looking before I was satisfied the spine was as straight as I could get it with my hi tech straightening tools. The next quest - would it hone. It set a great bevel on the 1k but was a little uneven. It honed quickly and finished nicely so I stropped it and used it tonight.

Razor: The one the Russian factory rejected in the '50's
Soap: My tallow/Emu oil and clay concoction.
Brush: Synthetic

The moment I put the blade to my face I knew it was a definite ugly duckling turned into a swan.
Three days growth gone with no sensation of whiskers being removed. So smooth.

DFS+ with no irritation.

Some guys tend to apply pressure when using light razors, like the Standard, and that might lead to razor burn. Apply some light touch. Try some different blades until you find that sweet spot. I have no doubt that you will get silky comfortable and superb shaves from it very soon.
