Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: ATT R-1 Kronos
Blade: Voskhod (1)
Brush: Doug Korn Epsilon 2-band
Lather: Mike's Bay Rum
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, Australian Emu Oil

After re-discovering my Weber, I I thought it would be time to take a look at my ATT R-1. It is definitely the most aggressive razor I still have in the Den and I felt a lot of blade. It wasn't uncomfortable, but I just noticed.

The end result was a super close shave, but unfortunately also a small nick on my philtrum - I guess I have to practise with this razor a bit more.

Really enjoy the new Doug Korn handle for my Epsilon 2-band knot - what a difference a comfortable handle makes and the Mikes lather was great (picture here).

Hope every one enjoys their shaves and has a nice Wednesday (y)

@alfredus - another great photo.

Cold water shave
Brush: Simpson Berkeley badger
Soap: Shaver Heaven Sensuous Sandlewood
Face lather
Blade: George Butler Keen 6/8

Good brush, great soap, sharp blade. I don't know why this blood-letter has it in for me. My mid-morning shaves on Saturdays and this razor is close and smooth. However when I use this weapon before my first coffee and sunrise I can usually count on one little nick. Same again today. I just have to shave slower with this blade.

DFS though.

Slow hand Dale :)

Hey - Happy shaving :)

Pre: GFT Lime Skin Food
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac Custom
Soap: Savonniere Du Moulin
Razor: Standard
Blade: Feather
Post: alum, witch hazel, Myrsol Agua Balsamica

I am quite lost with this soap, never really am able to get a good lather out of it. Tried wet, load/hydrate. Just doesn't seem to work well. Very airy lather and the protection is not as adequate as the artisan soaps which I have been using for the past few days. I have to give it a rest.

Shave was darn close, but a nick on upper lip and burns on cheeks of my face. Not quite happy about tonight's shave. There's always tomorrow. Back to comfort zone.

I like the quote from Shakespeare on the blade
The tongues of mocking wenches are as keen As is the razor's edge invisible, Cutting a smaller hair than may be seen; Above the sense of sense, so sensible Seemeth their conference, their conceits have wings Fleeter than arrows, bullets, wind, thought, swifter things.
William Shakespeare

I recently got some Mystics water bay rum, I actually prefer to mikes. Mystics has a much sweeter smell

Haven't tried Mystic Bay Rum as it has FO, but if you like sweet Bay Rum you should definitely try Stirling

Brush: Simpson Wee Scot
Soap: Acqua Di Parma (old formula)
Razor: Mongoose
Blade: Kai Captain Mild
After: Thayers and Acqua Di Parma

My focus for the last few weeks has been to revisit products that have given me grief. Like Feather blades for instance.
This time it's the Mongoose. The long handle, heft and wide blade has always felt awkward resulting in nicks and subpar shaves.
After a very long layoff it finally coaxed me back for another shot and I'm happy to say that I nailed it :) It's now putty in my hands.
Another "bad guy" has succumbed to my ever increasing experience and light touch.
Classed up with old formula Acqua Di Parma

Another beautiful picture @Lifes a Peach - I have the impression, the reason you post so little is you are doing some intensive photographic courses :D

Thanks for your ever kind compliments @alfredus . Impressing The Boss makes it worth while ;) I'm not rotating items on a daily basis, like I used to, so don't want to bore you guys with similar looking photos. My posts may have dropped off a bit but my love of this morning ritual is stronger than ever :)

No blood, two extremely comfortable passes and a wonderful experience.

Soaps Home brew with a dob of Proraso green. :) I like this. Lather created in scuttle with moulting badger brush.
1958 Russian straight finished on an Arkansas Translucent hone. As smooth as a butter knife and as sharp as a scalpel.

DFS with a big smile.

Razor: EJ DE86
Blade: Wilkinson Sword
Brush: EJ Best Badger
Soap: WSP Rustic Shave Soap (Barbershop)
After: TN Dickinson WH with Aloe Vera

Been a few shaves recovering from the 7OC Black - that blade's too vicious for me in this razor. Went back to Astras while the irritation subsided.

Decided to take one of my sample blades today, tried one of these early on but thought I should have another go with some experience behind me. What an absolutely mediocre blade this is! Very ordinary shave, neither sharp nor particularly comfortable. Passable shave, but nothing to write home about. Won't waste further effort with this one - binned after one shave.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Vintage Schick Super Platinum (5)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch distressed Culmak reknotted with TGN Finest
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Soaps - Barbershop
Aftershave: Barbary Coast Shaving Co - Havana Balm

Back to the Mike's again - it has a strong hold over me it seems ...

Tried the Barbary Coast in the balm. Subtle scent, balms I find are more subtle, mainly vanilla to me but very subtle. Not greasy, just pretty light. Will go into my 'inoffensive and neutral balms' category :)

Razor: Gillette slim on 5
Blade: Vintage Schick Platinum Plus (1)
Brush: Omega 10005
Soap/Cream: Speick stick
Aftershave: Aqua Velva

So it's confirmed. The previous blade had been used for a few shaves too many as was proved by how easily the new SPP mowed the first pass through 3 days of growth much easier than the London bridge had been recently.

Preshave: Musgo Real Glyce Soap and Proraso sandalwood preshave cream
Razor: Standard
Blade: Polsilver SI
Brush: Semogue 1305
Soap: DR Harris Marlborough
Post Shave: Dickinsons Witch Hazel and Captains Choice Bay Rum
Two pass shave with a clean up. Still had a bit of Mikes left in the bowl so whipped it up added the DR Harris and a few drops of glycerin and boom a lovely uber lather. The Standard gives great service each time I use it, so pleasing to hear it mow down the whiskers. Class shave you have there @Lifes a Peach .

If the addition of a cream improves your lather. Does that suggest that the soap is lacking in the first place?

I dug out my favourite blade. A 1950's Fukutaro Tanifuji, 6/8 Full Hollow in white translucent scales. I'd be happy to just have two razors for the rest of my days but one thing that having a few does is you get to re-find of friends, that special edge you love. I had forgotten how good this blade is, even after my hack attempts at touching it up on the Jnat. It's been cleaned, oiled, bagged and returned to it's spot to be re-found at a later date.

Wonder what surprises I will find tomorrow.

?

Why should it indicate the soap is laking? Either soap for that matter? To achieve the same only different I could easily just use more soap of either kind. The addition of two different soaps can sometimes give a result that neither soap is able to provide. My main soap is scent free but I do like a small amount of menthol which the "dob" of Proraso gives without the chemical fire I normally get with the green.

I could just as easily add Eucalyptus EO and menthol to the same unscented soap recipe when I make it but why would I when this 500ml tube cost me $6 and will last me a very long time.

Perhaps for your own benefit, if you haven't already, try a small amount of cream in your scuttle, load your brush with your favourite soap as normal and see the results for yourself. You may or may not like the results.
