Why should it indicate the soap is laking? Either soap for that matter? To achieve the same only different I could easily just use more soap of either kind. The addition of two different soaps can sometimes give a result that neither soap is able to provide. My main soap is scent free but I do like a small amount of menthol which the "dob" of Proraso gives without the chemical fire I normally get with the green.

I could just as easily add Eucalyptus EO and menthol to the same unscented soap recipe when I make it but why would I when this 500ml tube cost me $6 and will last me a very long time.

Perhaps for your own benefit, if you haven't already, try a small amount of cream in your scuttle, load your brush with your favourite soap as normal and see the results for yourself. You may or may not like the results.

I hesitated to post that. I hope it didn't come across as smug, or arrogant. It's an honest question, the answer to which I was curious. I just assumed you were improving your lather, but if what you are really doing is not improving so much as making it different, cool, that's the answer I was looking for.
Shave on!

A touch :) but that can often be the fault of text on a screen.

This experiment works very well and even though I can make any soap I like [as long as I can source the ingredients] there is no point belting my head against the wall when this ticks all the boxes I like. I could calculate roughly the proportions of my soap and the Proraso - probably 60/30 ish and then just mix a tub so it is ready to use straight away. I do have a couple of other creams I'm keen to experiment with that I know are nice to shave with on their own so the addition of my MDC style clone "may" be a winner. Or not :)

Face Wash : Musgo Real Lime Soap
Pre-Shave : Proraso Green Pre-Shave
Brush : Simpson Commodore X1
Soap : Savon a Barbe Asses Milk Soap
Razor : HG Razors Suminigashi 13/16
After Shave : Alum, Top Seven Balm, Alvarez Gomez EDC

First shave with the new razor this morning. I pulled out one of my favourite gourmet soaps and got to work with the Simpson brush. In almost no time my face was covered with the creamiest, slickest lather I could ask for.

The razor was just majestic - it smoothly mowed down everything in its path without a hint of pulling or nicking, and proved more than manoeuvrable enough to cope with the angles and hollows of my face. The second pass was the business : the razor just sang smoothly and left a swathe of totally BBS face behind it. I couldn't be happier with the way the razor shaves, so its elegant good looks are definitely matched by its performance.

I felt very upbeat after such a wonderful shave, so I picked Alvarez Gomez as the fragrance for the day. It has a wonderful spicy lemon fragrance that @Lifes a Peach and I just love :)

@Lifes a Peach - wonderful photo and great sounding shave mate - well done! Please don't reduce your great posts :(

When did I miss all that? A Mergress (or is it a Digress) and a Chubby 3 - what a great setup! Please share your thoughts about the brush @cranky (y)

Wonderful @Draco Noir - it is really hard resisting the Dark straight side looking at your pictures

@alfredus thanks mate,
The Mergerss is a wonderful razor it just seem's to suite me, very smooth comfortable shaver.
The Simpson Duke 3 not Chubby 3 although i do have a Chubby 2 is a wonderful brush it took about 15 shaves for it to start releasing
the lather and not hogging it but now I'm rewarded with a great brush, its great for bowl or face lathering and it has very nice soft tips.
Regards

Brush: Simpsons Chubby 3 Best
Razor: Merkur 37c
Blade: Timor
Soap: Shaverheaven Spiced Mahogany
A/S: Floid Vigoroso

First use of the Tallow Shaverheaven soap. Usual easy lather I've come to expect from Shaverheaven, but it's a lot slicker than his vegan soap, post shave is top notch although I'm not the biggest fan of this particular scent. Too sweet for me.

@cranky I really enjoy looking at you're Simpsons Duke 3 Best because the bloom is absolutely amazing ;) and how many hairs have you lost so far
Hey there @SpeedyPC, Yes she does have a wonderful bloom same as my Chubby 2, i would say that the first few shaves she lost about 5-6 hairs haven't seen any hair loss since then and I've used her about 30 shaves, same for the Chubby 2.

Pre: GFT Lime Skin Food
Brush: SOC
Soap: Stirling Ozark Mountain
Razor: Standard
Blade: Feather
Post: alum, witch hazel and Myrsol Plastic Shave

Initially when I first received the puck, I did a test lather last night in one of the Ikea Grundtal containers. Resulting lather wasn't that promising and I thought it might be an over hyped item. Seeing that the puck keep moving around in the container, I got a little annoyed and since the soap is relatively soft, I mashed it into the container.

To my surprise , when I am using it today, the lather generated was superb. Ultra slick snow white thick dense whale fat. Hmm, what was different from yesterday? Can't be the brush right? Oh yes! Epiphany!!! Most of my troubled soaps all have the same issue - The Puck doesn't fit properly into the container. So water wouldn't gather on the surface of the puck while I load, and it just flows out of the container while I tip it over. I think this is why grating a soap to fit into a container actually "helps get better lather", it's so that it can have some water gather on the top of the puck and slowly thicken that liquid into a slick paste.

It doesn't smell like Pine o'clean. Okay, maybe a small hint of it, but it has a very natural greeny, pine scent to it. I am really liking it. Lather was so slick and protective. @Korbz liked Stirling for a reason, and I see why now. Fantastic product and I'd be looking to grate my Ass milk soap.

Finished off with the usual finishers. Very good shave achieved, despite one nick due to too steep of a blade angle while going ATG. Other than that, it was a great shave.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Vintage Schick Super Platinum (6)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Soaps - Barbershop
Aftershave: Barbary Coast Shaving Co - Havana Splash

Stuck with the Mike's for consistency. The Havana Splash is nice, scent is faint to me but it feels more healing than a slap around the face alcohol rich product. I notice that the ingredients include 'Masculinity, Courage, Good Taste and Valor' so I must be in for a great day!

Two pass shave with a touch up. Beautiful lather with a great razor/blade pairing, what could go wrong? Not much actually, a couple of weepers but a superb shave. Ready for lunch of this very wintry Melbourne day.

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: ATT R-1 Kronos
Blade: Ladas (2)
Brush: Doug Korn Epsilon 2-band
Lather: Mystic Water Bergamot, Cedarwood & Juniper
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, Australian Emu Oil

Had a very average shave today for unknown reason - the shave just felt uncomfortable from the 3rd pass on...and a couple of knicks on my philtrum didn't make it any better. And that although the lather was superb (pic here) and I had lots of time in the bathroom...hope you have a fantastic Friday (y)

Had a very average shave today for unknown reason

Every now and then I have for no reason as well a very uncomfortable shave as you describe. Preparation is good, lather is good and everything is really sharp but for me my whiskers feel like re-bar and all I can do is get the shave over and done as the shave is less than pleasant. I usually change my weapon of attack and that often helps. Seems like the whiskers get used to a particular approach and rebel :)

Pre Shave: Shower
Razor: Kamisori (13)
Brush: Simpson Wee Scot
Soap: Shaver Heaven - Diamonds & Pearls
After Shave: Diamonds & Pearls

Thirteenth shave with the Kamisori. I had to hold off a day for this shave as a water main had burst out the front of my house early Thursday morning and wasn't fixed to late that afternoon. I was raring to go but unfortunately the water still had a lot of mud in it so I held off until today. My only gripe about the Wee Scot was a little bit scratchy however it will no doubt soften up with more use. I was very impressed with the performance especially for such a small brush, there was plenty of lather and it was nice to be able to pin point exactly where I wanted the lather to go.

After a nice hit shower I had a relaxing two pass shave, being WTG and XTG. I resisted the urge to do an ATG pass as I didn't want to risk nicking myself as I have my mid year work function tonight. Prior to wet shaving I would have had a shower, shaved with a cart at the same time, chucked on some clothes and off I would have went however now I'm really enjoying the process of getting ready and nothing makes you feel as crisp and clean than a DFS so now I'm ready to hit the town! Have a good Friday (y)
