LOL. You're totally correct! I missed that even though it's very obvious now. I wonder how that works... I now hope that no P&Cer ended up with it!!! [emoji15]

@Draco Noir - The red paint on the ERR is notorious for disappearing fast. BUT some RR's actually didn't have a red ring at all. It all depends on your model as there were actually a few different variations:
Some were plated in silver, others only the handle in silver and the head in chrome, whilst others were all chrome.
Some were two piece and others were 3 piece razors.
And, more well known, some have the "Eclipse" logo on the head, while others do not.

(Edit: I ought to write an Eclipse RR thread as there seems to be a bit of interest...)

@filobiblic - that would be a very interesting thread mate, if you get motivated to write it.

It would also be fun to have a group ERR SOTD for all the lucky members who have one. We just need to set a date, then shave and post :)

By the way - well spotted @Lifes a Peach! I'll get you to check all photos of potential purchases from now on :p:p:p

That's a great idea @Draco Noir . I'd love to know the thoughts from those lucky devils that own one.

Pre-Shave: Occams pre-shave soap, cold water
Razor: Wolfman WR1-SB with WRH2
Blade: Ladas Super Stainless (2)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac 2-band Silvertip
Lather: Mystic Waters Lime

Happy belated Australia Day/Survival Day/Invasion Day and Indian Republic Day everyone - had a great night out at the cricket - was really cool to see the fireworks over the stadium and amazing to watch the Indians celebrate!

Back on topic - after 2 solid weeks just using this brush with various MW soaps - I think I have it down. If anybody tells you MW is hard to lather - it's a lie :D

That's a great looking lather you've got there, @alfredus . Did you use that MW method from "Merkur Man"?

It took you two weeks to get the technique down to use a soap with a particular brush?
No - just to perfect it :D :D :D

This was the first lather a couple of weeks ago - many would say pretty good, but I am on the hunt for the perfect lather at the moment, so had to work on it...

Thank you @SpeedyPC - as @Lifes a Peach already pointed out, this was done via the MerkurMan lathering method:

Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce
Razor: iKon Slant DLC
Blade: Personna Red (3)
Brush: Simpson Duke 2 Best
Lather: Le Pere Lucien
Post-shave: Alum, Thayers, Trumpers Coral Skin Food

Got the soap in the post today. Still unsure about the scent, but what a cracking, slippery lather. Not santas beard but an outstanding, protective shave. Alum felt like I was rubbing a piece of plastic on my face. No sting at all. This stuff is very good. (YMMV etc etc etc:sleep:)

A great technique that has enhanced my lathers but in this video he uses Mikes. Have you seen the video he did using a technique for Mystic Water?
Sure

Sword: Takemaru
Suds: B&M Latha / Omega S10108
Salve: Nivea ASB

Honed a bunch of razors with Steve today. Although this hybrid was already in good order and only got a minor touch up on the translucent Arkie, it did benefit from it all the same. My neck has not felt this smooth since I was nine years old. By the way @bald as - did the bamboo razor go on the CrOx? If so, I need to get some, as this edge is outrageous.

After the shave I dinged the edge up near the toe on the sink! The first time I've ever done that too. I don't think it was a major collision but only time will tell what damage I've done.

@khun_diddy, the bamboo was straight off the Translucent Arkansas. Did you check the edge after the ding under your loupe? hopefully it isn't damaged. I gave your GD66 a dose of Translucent Arkansas, linen and then leather. The other GD300 had a final fling on CrOx, linen and leather. Remember that one was finished on 8k synthetic to see how far it will improve when you take to it with your Jnat.

Ummm, guys, can you speak E-N-G-L-I-S-H not Swahili or whatever that was in this thread so we can all understand?

Pre-Shave : Myrsol Emulsion
Brush : Trumper SB3
Soap : Mystic Water Coconut Lime Verbena
Razor : Kenwa Symmetrical Kamisori
After Shave : Argan Oil, Agua Balsamica

Draco leads 30/15  After a splendid lather courtesy of Trumper SB3 brush and Mystic Water's Coconut, Lime and Verbena, I managed another wonderful shave from this beast of a Kamisori. I think from here on it's going to be a steady journey towards competence. And it can sure deliver a close shave!

A big splash of the ever trusty Agua Balsamica, and I'm good to face the day...

Straight razor shaving for Dummies :)

@khun_diddy, the bamboo was straight off the Translucent Arkansas.

the bamboo = Rough translation of the Japanese brand name of a folding style hybrid Kamasori razor owned by @khun_diddy .
Kamasori razor= A traditional Japanese razor that normally doesn't have scales.
scales=Narrow attached cover that a hinged razor folds into to protect the blade and the user. Also provides balance to the blade when extended for shaving.
straight off the Translucent Arkansas = Translucent Arkansas is the brand/type of final hone used to refine the shaving edge and with this razor no additional tratment including leather stropping was used.

Did you check the edge after the ding under your loupe? hopefully it isn't damaged.

Did you check the edge after the ding under your loupe?= Did you look at the shaving edge close up with a magnifyer after accidentally hitting it on the sink.
hopefully it isn't damaged=hopefully it isn't damaged

I gave your GD66 a dose of Translucent Arkansas, linen and then leather.

I gave your GD66 a dose of Translucent Arkansas, linen and then leather.= I finished the Gold Dollar model 66 with a Translucent Arkansas finishing stone followed by stropping on stretched linen and leather.

The other GD300 had a final fling on CrOx, linen and leather.

The other GD300 had a final fling on CrOx, linen and leather=The Gold dollar model 300 after some honing on stone was finished on CrOx, which is a Chrome Oxide power in a wax binder rubbed on a linen strop. A few laps on CrOx and linen can add further keenness to an edge. After the CrOx on linen the blade is stropped on linen and leather.

Remember that one was finished on 8k synthetic to see how far it will improve when you take to it with your Jnat.

Remember that one was finished on 8k synthetic to see how far it will improve when you take to it with your Jnat.=The Gold dollar model 300 was honed from an initial bevel, the standard sharp edge of a straight razor and then refined to a smoother edge by using multiple strokes on an 8k Synthetic hone. This is normally half way through the progression of synthetic honing/sharpening stones. @khun_diddy has a most delightful selection of Japanese honing stones so we took the edge on the GD300 [see above for clarification] to a condition that might shave but could easily be improved with his stones.

your Jnat=Japanese natural waterstone - something I don't have.
delightful selection=I feel I'm coming down with H.A.D. being in close proximity to these Japanese natural waterstones - something I don't have.
H.A.D.=Hone Acquisition Disorder - something I might have.

:) Hope that helps.

Steve

Looks flawless under the loupe. The bevel looks very very nice indeed.
