Post: GFT Extract of West Indian Limes Skin Food

After the fiasco that was the election and a fairly late night watching (in vain) for a result, I needed a good shave this morning so I went with something sharp and citrus to snap me out of it by way of lime. Traditionally it's considered more suitable for the spring or summer I know, but it had the desired effect really picking me up for the morning and made for a nice change.

The Occam's always lathers well, the cushion, glide and post-shave feel is excellent as anyone who has used it will know I did my usual two pass, a WTG and XTG with a bit of a touch up in the odd location where there remained the odd whisker or two.

Finished up with the GFT skin food as it always settles things down nicely and has a great scent that travels really well with the Occam's Lime.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Vintage Schick Super Platinum (7)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson reknotted in pure
Soap/Cream: Mystic Waters Sardinian Honey
Aftershave: Barberry Coast Shaving Co Havana Balm

Loving the Mystic Water (third day in a row or fourth?) which just lathers so easily and so when. The honey gives the lather, and soap, a brown colour, more light caramel in the lather really, which when combined with the honey scent gives a warm, comforting sense about it. Just what you want when you have been out in the sub-zero Canberra mornings!

The Havana I'm enjoying more. I think my expectations were unrealistic. For some reason I expected it to be exceptional, it isn't. It is good but not exceptional. Having that sorted I can enjoy it now :)

Funny, the actually temp when I went out was higher but felt colder -

on my return it WAS colder but didn't feel as cold -

Townsville meet up - sounds good to me right now!

20.1 this morning. I can totally empathise with you on that. For up in the middle of the night and turned the fan off.

The problem up here is that as soon as it is cool enough to turn the ac off and open up the windows everyone is burning off all the grass so it gets very smoky.

Wonderful Sunday shave. Three passes of pure enjoyment. Really happy with my recent purchases of which this soap is one. Superb scent and a great performing soap. Enjoy the Sunday everyone.

How would you describe the scent of the Havana balm ?

I was half way thinking of pulling the trigger on some a while back but the tobacco part of the equation made me doubtful it was one I could run with.

The tobacco is not very strong at all IMHO. @MrT has some as well and might respond too

Pre-Shave - Shower & Proraso White
Brush: - Semogue Special Edition 2013 Silvertip
Soap/Cream: - Mike's Natural Shaving Soap - Barbershop
Razor: - EJ DE89 with a iKon Bulldog Handle
Blade: - Gillette Silver Blue (2)
Post Shave: - Alum Block / The Stray Whisker Aftershave Balm

This morning shave and loving Mike's Natural Shaving Soap so much which has make my shaving smooth and easy on my skin, also I'm enjoying the The Stray Whisker Aftershave Balm and I'm hoping @shavetheman could make a 240ml tube which would make me a very happy wet shaver ;)

Guys for those of you have already got you're Stray Whisker Aftershave Balm and how are you liking the product so far for the price you pay, and are you willing to go back for more I'll try and ask @shavetheman if he could make a 240ml tube in the future soon and I will absolutely buy it for sure ;)

After Balm is a great all rounder, performance is good and the price is very reasonable for what's in it and for an everyday balm.

I ordered 2 tubes as I knew I would use them up in the current size. A larger size would be great, a lot more convenient and cost effective.

Forgot to post Fridays shave so I figured I'd do two for the price of one!

FRAT below.

Friday
Pre Shave:
Shower
Brush: Epsilon Vie Long badger (On loan from @Draco Noir)
Soap: Mystic Waters - Egyptian Dragon
Razor: Kamisori (western grind)
After Shave: Myrsol Blue

Could have easily put off Friday's shave but the lure of the Kamisori was too much. Had a very pleasant two pass shave which resulted in a DFS.

Sunday
Pre Shave:
Shower
Brush: Epsilon Vie Long badger (On loan from @Draco Noir)
Soap: Mystic Waters - Frankincense & Myrrh
Razor: Asymmetrical grind folding Kamisori (On loan from @Draco Noir)
After Shave: Shaver Heaven - Summer Breeze

I spent a few hours with @Draco Noir this afternoon and I was lucky enough to be sent off with 3 different straight razors to try out. Needless to say I couldn't wait to get home and have a shave. I was especially excited to try out an asymmetrical grind for the first time so it was an easy choice to try that first up. What a little firecracker of a razor, the blade felt a lot shorter than I'm used to but that certainly didn't hinder its performance. I actually had to make a conscience effort to slow myself down as it just felt like it wanted to whip around my face which could have very easily ended rather badly.

The main difference I found was utilising different angles to what I've been used to although I was pleased it only took a few seconds use to work out. As Draco had said it comes down to feel and this is where all the practice with a symmetrical grind held me in good stead. To get the right angle I would start using a very shallow angle and gradually kept increasing it until it felt right. I would then repeat the process when changing sides and when starting a different pass, I found this approach worked really well for me.

Initially I had thought I would just do a WTG pass and assuming that went well I might even try XTG just on the cheeks and leave it at that. As always, it sounded good in theory however I should have realised that I was deluding myself thinking I would be able to leave it at that! I ended up doing a full 3 pass shave WTG, XTG and ATG. Just like the razor being a little firecracker I had an absolute cracker of a shave. I had one little nick on the bottom of my chin but I don't really care about that, the whole experience was fantastic and I have a BBS shave to boot.

Another new thing that I first tried on Friday's shave and it worked so well I did it again today was instead of adding drops of water to create a lather, I used a spray bottle instead. On both occasions I found it doesn't take long using the spray bottle for the lather to explode, you can see the result here. No doubt you can get the same result adding drops of water but I've found using the spray bottle I can whip up a great lather far quicker. I think it works quicker as using a spray bottle means you get very fine droplets of water is dispersed over a greater area of the soap/brush so doesn't take nearly as much effort to mix in. In any event I would be interested to see what other people thoughts are on it.

FRAT: First time using a asymmetrical folding Kamisori, one small nick and a BBS shave. Was an absolute cracker of a shave.

Pre Shave: Blind Barber Facewash
Brush: Thater 4125/3 2 Band Bulb
Soap: Tabac
Razor: Gillette Red Tip
Blade: Voskhod (1)
After Shave: Speick

First shave with the Thater and I'm very impressed. I had to load it for a long time (it's massive) but i was rewarded with tons of amazing lather. I could have done 6 passes.
The RedTip doesn't give me as close a shave as I'd like. May be my technique, this is only my 3rd time out with it. An incredibly smooth shave though.

@khun_diddy provided me a sample of one of his bath/pre shave soaps at our get together today. So testing time tonight. Top soap @khun_diddy - I used it both pre and post shave tonight and it was great.

I was also given some Mike's Lavender as well so I will try that tomorrow night.

Tonight's shave was excellent - smooth and comfortable. 2 passes DFS+ with just a minute spot of irritation on my left chin about a 5 cent piece.

Thanks for bringing the Epsilon re-handled brush @alfredus - a real work of art.

Pre: GFT lime skin food
Brush: Wolfwhiskers Ubersoft II
Soap: SdM
Razor: Standard
Blade: Feather
Post: alum, witch hazel, Myrsol Agua Balsamica

Got much better lather looking lather today from the ass soap, but still don't find it as good as the other artisan soaps I have been so used to. I reckon, I will just stick to what I am comfortable with. The soap doesn't last too long, I can see the bottom of the tin already. Probably won't restock it. Lather shot.

First pass was okay, second pass on wards, a minor burning sensation start to form. I think I got some razor burn from this. I might have applied too much pressure as well trying to get that close shave.

Finished off with the usual, and the Myrsol Agua Balsamica feels really good and does a great job soothing my skin. Looking forward to tomorrow's shave. Back to comfort zone.

Mastro Livi CarboInox KamiRazor "Perugia"

On the road again. For this month's business trip I took with me the latest addition to my collection: Mastro Livi CarboInox KamiRazor. I in fact want to enjoy this beautiful masterpiece for the next ten days or so and this seemed to be the right occasion. Smooth and super sharp, Mastro Livi's CarboInox is absolutely a joy to shave with. This time I also remembered to take with me my Mühle travel shave brush having a synthetic loft and very pleasing to use. The icing on the cake certainly was this super cheap Palmolive menthol shave cream, very refreshing and cooling and - at least here in Italy - you can buy a tube for a little more than one euro, at this price it is very hard to find something comparable to it and it is a pretty good soap for sure.
  • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
  • Soap: Palmolive Menthol Shaving Cream
  • Brush: Mühle Travel 31 M 530, Silvertip Fibre, 21 mm knot
  • Bowl: Chinese Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi CarboInox KamiRazor "Perugia", 13/16 Full Hollow, Snake Point
  • Post-Shave: Alum Block
  • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
  • After Shave: Aqua Velva

Razor: EJ DE86
Blade: Asco SS
Brush: EJ Best Badger
Soap: EJ Limes & Pomegranate
After: TN Dickinson WH with Aloe Vera

Slowly working my way through my sampler blades. Today's weapon of choice was the Asco Super Stainless.
Seems to be a fairly sharp and comfortable blade, got a near-DFS from it, but I'll see how it goes on the next shave.

Pre: Musgo Real Lime Oil Soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Savile Row 3824 Silvertip
Soap: Valobra Stick
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: Feather (2)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
A/S: Myrsol Plastic Shave

All hail Valobra. This simple soap stick, with minimal scent, produced a nice lather. However, the slickness was off the scale. Best shave I've had in recent times.
A couple of weepers on the neck, but virtually no irritation and a wonderful post shave feel. Whoever was behind this formulation got it spot on, at least for me.

Midas Custom 400
HTGAM Pumpkin 3.14
Cobra Classic
Feather Pro (6)
Old Spice AS

A little bit of burn with this soap which seemed to tail off as I got into the pass. A little tightness post shave too. Nice scent and good performance though so not all that bad.
