Pre shave: Shower
Soap: Mystic Water - Vanilla Sandalwood
Brush: Epsilon Vie long badger
Razor: Kikubishi asymmetrical grind folding kamisori AKA The Firecracker (On loan from @Draco Noir)
After shave: Myrsol blue

A little while ago @Draco Noir set the challenge to skip the WTG pass and start with XTG. There were some parameters to this experiment such as to make sure there wasn't too much growth and not to be too pig headed (he know's me too well, I'm a stubborn challenge accepted type person) and if needs be reverting to a WTG pass. Although I had been keen on trying this experiment earlier I've really been enjoying prolonging my shaves as much as possible but after reading his SOTD post today I bit the bullet.

I spent a bit longer on the XTG pass than I usually do making sure I didn't miss anything. I'm not sure if using a western grind straight would of made the job easier or not but I found the asymmetrical grind up to the challenge and got pretty much a DFS all round.

As always I didn't want to put the razor down so I couldn't help but throw an ATG pass which left me BBS. Irritation wise I didn't notice a difference as when I include the WTG pass I get little if any irritation anyway. It was a great experiment which showed me that I didn't necessarily need to do a WTG pass to achieve a great shave however one less pass means less time with the razor so unless I have a time crunch I will continue to keep up the WTG pass.

FRAT: Experiment by missing the WTG pass and instead starting with XTG. Found that a WTG pass isn't necessarily required to achieve a great DFS or BBS shave.

I've skipped the XTG pass before, but never the WTG. I will have to try it tomorrow. XTG is my fastest pass too ( one hand the entire face, without a blade rinse) so from a time saving point of view it is more efficient to skip the WTG.

Peach Shaves with a Straight

Obi-Wan Dracony is teaching me the ways of the force.

Thanks @Draco Noir for the loan of the Feather Artist Club straight, Omega Badger, and your encouragement :)

Just me or does that blade look serrated? Looks like you shave with a beard trimming blade.

G'day @Nightguard, I own several B&M soaps and love them all, however to me the night music is a strange soap its very dirty if i can explain it that way messy to face lather its a MUD brown colour & consistence when lathering and adding water gets very runny and messy, i find bowl lathering far easier to get the right consistence but it always has a brown texture to it.
The scent is fantastic hard for me to explain my nose is not that good at describing scents i either like it or i don't my nose scent is burnt out from smelling JET A1 fuel for 30 years.
Performance wise i don't think its on par with the likes of seville & cheshire or any of the Latha line but exceptable and provides a good shave.

B&M Limited edition is not as good a performer as Lather or standard???? Really? I thought the quality/performance went from Latha, though the standards with the limited as top tier?

Pre: Musgo Real Lime Oil Soap, Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: B&M Cologne Russe
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: Feather (2)
Post: Myrsol Antesol and Emulsion
A/S: Penhaligons's Bayolea

Brilliant shave. The B&M soap was, in keeping with its stablemates, very cushioning and slick. The fragrance on first sniff reminded me a little of Tabac, but when lathered exploding into a typically complex B&M maelstrom of notes. Hard to describe, but sort of deep, rich yet fresh. I loved it. Three passes and a quick clean up, with little irritation. Very close.
The Bayolea A/S paired beautifully with the soap. This aftershave has good staying power, and is a modern fragrance with a classic background.

I have to ask @TomG - what is the wedge ? shape folding knife? If it is a straight, is it a particular Japanese one?

Steve

Same, I thought the night music was in the glissant base which is being rolled out to all white label and limited editions moving forward? (not used glissant yet myself)

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: Supply Provisions Single Edge Medium
Blade: Schick Injector (4)
Brush: Nathan Clark Envy White
Lather: Mystic Water The Brown Windsor
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, Australian Emu Oil

Still not the most comfortable razor for me out there, but the shave was close and the lather drippy

Sword: Schick L-Type
Suds: Gent's #3 / Omega S
Salve: Dickinson's Witch Hazel

Last shave before I move to my new place and it was an absolute belter! About 3.5 mins, go to whoa, for two sublime passes and one of the best shaves of my life.

Hope the move goes well mate!

Shave 3 with this combo and I continue to be impressed with Arko as a shave soap; easy to apply, easy to lather,, thick and moist lather AND it can be used as a smelling salt. If not for THAT scent, this would be the stand-out soap in the crowd. Cheap and very effective.

Once again a superb, nick free and close shave. The Dovo performed well again. If Arko comes in other scents it would be my regular soap.
Cold water shave
Soap: Arko
Brush: cheap synth
Face lather
Blade: Dovo Inox 5/8 with Pearlex scales
Post: Alum bloke, Pinaud Clubman A/S

Shave 4 with the Arko and I side with The Monkeys - I'm a Believer.
Very little soap applied for a great, thick lather. I've learned that real men shave with Arko. A man who willing applies urinal cakes to his face every morning stands above the average bloke ... ... ... or is a sandwich short of a picnic. This soap is cheap and effective. Another close, no-nick shave. I'll use this soap one last time tomorrow before I give my nose a well-earned rest.

@bald as - G'day Steve. You are on the money, Mate. It is a custom higonokami. The scales are copper, and the blade is custom-forged Aogami super steel (Hitachi Blue #2).

I don't understand a single word - but I want to see a picture :D

I've said elsewhere what I think of the intriguing scent the spitfire soap has do I won't dwell on it here other than to say of you can find a scent you like buy some of this, the lather is fantastic.
I won't go on about the A/S which is fast becoming my favourite. Or the blade, which I didn't know I even owned any of, let alone a 10 pack.

The star of this shave is the Leresche 77. Yes, it's got a small split in the handle, and yes the bottom part of the handle is not original, and it's suffering from a fair bit of plate loss.
But man what a shave!
I was warned beforehand that it was 2011 R41 style aggressive (dat gap!) so I started timidly.
Glad I did. With no pressure whatsoever it gave the closest first pass I have ever had, and a 2 pass shave was smoother than most razors give with 3-4 passes.
It may be an ugly duckling in terms of looks but it's most definitely a beautiful, but angry, swan when it comes to the shave.

Hang on a minute @filobiblic wants this back. What razor? Just me and my trusty slim here. Nothing to see, move along.
