Beautiful photo's with a succinct and eloquent narrative (something that I struggle with ) that leaves me wanting more! Fantastic all round @Lifes a Peach, you certainly couldn't ask for a better Jedi Master than @Draco Noir. The Feather Artist Club straight is an interesting beast, I shall be following your progress closely! Welcome to the dark side
Can't decide if that's a tiny razor or a massive soap box.
Makes the brush look small as well.
Same shave this morning with the same close, nick free shave. Arko really is a great shaving assistance but that scent is just not right. This morning's shave definitely smelt more "urinal pucky" than yesterday's shave. Perhaps if I wear a peg on my nose???I've done it !!! I've been Arko'ed.
Cold water shave
Soap: Arko the legendary or maybe infamous for crimes against shaving (depends a lot on personal preference)
Brush: Edwin Jagger badger
Face lather
Blade: Dovo 5/8 Stainless Steel with Stainless Steel scales
Post shave: Alum and Pinaud Clubman
Wet may face and applied stick thinking I am not getting enough soap on my face to build a lather. Took my wet badger and started lathering. Much to my surprise a decent lather started forming, though somewhat dry. Added water to the brush and a good lather, though still a little dry formed. A little more water and lots of thick, moist lather.
The scent. Urinal puck? Yeah, I can see why some think that though to me it was more like lemon laundry detergent or clothes ironing spray. Certainly not a soap that would be in my rotation. Great for travel though. Don't need to carry a bowl. This straight was my first wet shaving purchase, before I purchased a soap or brush even. Nice and sharp providing a great shave.
Arko? Well if the proof is in the pudding Arko provided a nick-free shave that was close and smooth. Yep, a quality soap for shaving and ideal for travel. While I didn't "keel over and die" from the scent I can't go for it. I'll use it again for the next few days to improve my technique with this soap and then banish it to my travel kit. Usability: good. Effectiveness: good. Scent: Nah, I don't think so.
Pre: GFT Lime Skin Food
Brush: Shavemac 177
Soap: B&M Vetyver Santal
Razor: iKon B1 Slant
Blade: PSI
Post: Alum, Witch Hazel, Ogallala Lime and Peppercorn Bay Rum
Lather created today is nothing short of amazing. Only down side is that it's flying everywhere! I need to clean up afterwards. Sadly, the O-Ring has started to formed for my soap. I have used this soap about 7 times now. Crap, I must have been crazy loading it. I wonder how long does every one's B&M lasts? I think I do tend to load heavy and recently, wet. Produced the slickest wettest lather ever though, so I cannot really complain.
It's very hard for me to resist not picking up the slant as the daily now. It's the only razor I can do a 2 pass + touch up, and yet gives me such a close and irritation free shave. Absolutely amazing. I can't believe I was at the verge of thinking about selling the slant off. The fear of the slant has been conquered and I stand victorious. Slants are certainly my thing now. So if anyone has some spare unwanted Wunderbar lying around, you know who to talk to!
Couldn't resist the Ogallala tonight, I just had to splash it on. It's crazy cold tonight in Melbourne, have to have something that warms your soul. Ogallala fits the bill just right.
Beautiful @Lifes a Peach - looking very much forward hearing your thoughts on the Feather Kami
Congratulations @Lifes a Peach - fantastic first effort . And in spite of some spectacularly ignorant and unnecessary comments, any experienced straight shaver knows that no matter what blade you use in them the Artist Club, Shavette et al are among the most technique intensive and least forgiving straights of all. They are not beginners stuff by any means...
Lovely photo too mate - says it simply and beautifully
