Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog handle / Gillette Fatboy (5)
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum 'Black' [India] (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch distressed Culmak reknotted with TGN Finest
Soap/Cream: Reef Point Soaps Dragon's Blood
Aftershave: Barberry Coast Shave Co Havana Splash

Two days of growth, appalling!

Consistent with my razor/blade combo theory I don't think that the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum 'Black' [India] is the blade for the Weber Polished Head on Bulldog handle. When using it earlier in the week I was disappointed but wasn't sure if it was sickness or the new soap I was using or the combo. After one pass this morning I swapped back for a noticeable improvement when the blade was back in a Fatboy.

Reserving judgement on the soap until other variables are more stable. I can almost detect a scent now as my nose starts to clear up a little ...

Preshave: Musgo Real Glyce soap and Proraso sandalwood preshave cream
Razor: Standard
Blade: Vintage Polsilver(3)
Brush: Semogue 1305
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica
Post Shave: Natio Balm and Felce Aromatica AS
Excellent three pass shave to a smooth, irritation free shave. The soap is brilliant and the scent intoxicating. The Standard razor did its job with ease and the vintage Polsilver was again superb.

What is happening??? Woke up this morning, bit tired from being over friends' last night, wandered into the man cave & started stropping a Dovo 5/8. Somehow I put a nick in the leather strop ... ... ... not impressed. Next lap on the strop the Dovo hit the nick and came loose from my hand and started the plummet to the floor. My disabilities from my accident have left me with limb coordination issues & depth of field judgement problems so when I threw my hand out to catch it (stupid, stupid, stupid) I missed catching it ... ... ... no real surprise there. Instead the blade hit the heel of my hand and put a nice 3/4" slice just below my wrist.

That was it. I put the straight "back in the rack", pulled down the SE (GEM Personna 3) and since my shave was already ruined I decided that things can't get any worse, so I grabbed the ARKO. Good lather and a boring shave but close and smooth. I'll go the SE again tomorrow. After two forgettable days with a straight I'll refocus for a couple of days again before I pick up one of the straights again.

What a bummer @Dale.Whiley - none of us deserves a shave like that mate :) Still, as most of we straight shavers know, things will be back to "normal" in no time. Maybe you can use the downtime to plan an absolutely indulgent shave - that'll get rid of the bad memory in no time :) Hang in there, mate ...

Pre-Shave: Cypriotian Olive/Argan Oil soap, cold water
Razor: ATT S1 Colossus
Blade: Ladas (1)
Brush: Doug Korn Epsilon 2-band
Lather: Mystic Water The Brown Windsor
Post-shave: Alum, Barrister & Man Kyovu Original, South Australian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Wonderful shave today - the S1 is a tiny bit more aggressive than my Wolfman and BBS-1 - but still a very enjoyable and smooth razor. The lather was nice and drippy (picture here) - a great start into the day (y)

Pre: Musgo Real Glyce Soap
Razor: Rockwell 6S (5)
Blade: PSI (2)
Soap: Beaver Woodwright Ghost Ship
Brush: Paladin Falstaff 26mm
A/S: PAA Deja Fougere

I am more and more impressed with the knot on this Paladin, easily the equal of Shavemac 2 band. The Beaver Woodwright produced an excellent lather. It's found its way into the top tier of my soaps.

For me Ghost Ship scent is in top 3 scents I have, very unique.

Pre-Shave - Shower & Musgo Real Classic Scent Pre-Shave Oil Soap
Brush: - Simpson Duke 3 Best Badger
Lather: - Tabac Soap
Razor: - Muhle R41 v2013 with a iKon Bamboo Handle
Blade: - Polsilver Super Iridium (1)
Post Shave: - Alum Block / T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel Astringent / The Stray Whisker Aftershave Balm
Whisky: - Bushmills Black Bush Irish

Darn! I got nicked right under my nose going WTG when I forgot the correct angle on the R41 bugger me and still not enough to make Freddy any happy which he nearly got me, thanks to the Alum Block which makes it worse as the sting got me a real good kick right up my nose nearly made me cry like a baby and all I can say is shut up Freddy and don't even think about it.

And you guys don't start laughing at me behind you're computer screen which I can tell you're smiling at me already and say 'Gotcha and Tough Titty', as you know I'm not stupid and I'm surprise the Polsilver Super Iridium blade is very sharp than the Gillette Silver Blue which gave me a good kick under the nose. Darn! Thank goodness I didn't use the Feather blade on my R41 which will scream Freddy out loud and come after me right on the spot with all those finger knifes, and he will give me a complete nightmare of blood bath shave from hell.

Thanks goodness for the Black Bush Irish should cheer me up after my shave as it getting a bit cold in the bathroom.

Pre: Myrsol Antesol (Finally!)
Brush: Rudy Vey Shavemac 2 Band
Soap: Tabula Rasa Cardamom
Razor: ATT S1
Blade: PSI
Post: Alum, Witch Hazel, TSW Afterbalm, Myrsol Antesol

Lather was horribad today, I started with a super wet dripping wet brush like I usually do with Tallow soaps. Bad idea. Lather bubbled up immediately, so hard to control and when I apply it to my face, more water oozed out of the brush and it was a mess. Took me a while to get the lather to a more usable condition, but still not thick and slick as I'd like it to be.

Lather really does make or break your shave. Took a few more passes on the chin to shear the whiskers away, and resulted some minor burns on the skin. The Myrsol Antesol smells a little unusual, don't love nor hate it. But the performance, wow! I love how soothing it is and it's not ultra mentholated. Lovely lovely stuff, my third Myrsol.

I've had this problem with Tabula Rasa. You have to remember how soft and airy it is (pretty much like a cream) so a dryish brush is a must. If you go slow it'll take on water nicely, but if you add it too quickly you end up with a lather lacking protection.

Thank you so much for the tips. I'm going back to tallow for a few days to recover and hit it back. I will keep trying. Much appreciated.

@silver - I totally get your first experience with the TR soap. I now think of it more as a cream when I lather - it is so soft.

Razor: EJ DE86
Blade: 7o'clock Black
Brush: EJ Best Badger
Soap: EJ Lime & Pomegranate
After: TN Dickinson WH with Aloe Vera

Decided to give the 7OC Black another go. I normally bowl lather, but with the EJ Lime cream, I decided to do a face lather tonight, and it really worked quite well. Took my time with the shave, because I found this blade a bit vicious last time I used it. Got a couple of minor weepers this time, and a 3-pass DFS.

The 7OC Black is very sharp, fairly smooth and quite reasonably comfortable (for this face/razor/soap combo). Not a blade for a fast shave unless you like bleeding. Needs a little time & patience for best results.

I wish my Standard Razor would hurry up and get here, I would like to see how the different razor might change the blade performance!
