As good as it gets...

Pre:
Myrsol Pre-Emulsion
Brush: Simpson Duke 3
Soap: I Coloniali Mango Oil
Razor: Gillette Fat Handle Tech (on loan, thanks @FatBoy58 )
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
After: Thayers and Floid Vigoroso

It's been ages since I have shaved with a Tech. My thanks to @FatBoy58 for loaning me this absolute stunner!
Cleaned up and gleaming just like all of Fatboy's collection. This photo does it no justice.
This razor is super mild but WOW it is super efficient! Silky glide but it was as close to BBS than you can get.
With special thanks to @Draco Noir for putting me onto Myrsol Pre-Emulsion. Can't start the morning ritual without it.

Are you using the floid emulsion as as a pre shave or for slickness? What's the scent like.

Just wanted to follow up the shave and give a bit of feed back on the King of shaves shave oil. Purchased it at Coles for about $8. In terms of performance I felt it aided the slickness of the soap. Scent is herbal/ medicinal. I also found the pump applicator nice and easy without much mess.

All up the $8 was well spent and you gents may want to check it out.
Interesting review for $8.00 worth a go and looksie

Brush: Simpsons M7 Manchurian
Razor: Merkur 37c
Blade: Merkur
Soap: Jabonmans Tierra Humeda
A/S: Alum and water

Found the sample pot of Tierra Humeda @stillshunter sent me some time ago. Same great scent and performance that I remember.
The Merkur blade felt very rough, strange for the slant. Suspect it's a dud blade. Won't be used again.

It's Myrsol Emulsion. Mostly to add slickness. A well lubricated lather will probably achieve the same objective but it has become part of the ritual now and makes my skin feel great. Contains menthol and that's the predominant scent.

I rub a small amount into my stubble as soon as I get out of the shower. Let it sit there while loading my brush and lather over it. Nice menthol kick too.

Remember the sample of Edwin Jagger pre-shave that you gave me? That sample rekindled my interest in pre-shaves and then @Draco Noir introduced me to the Myrsol. Along with Thayers it has become a constant part of my routine.

Good to hear about a pre-shave oil. I usually use a high glycerine soap then a wet towel. But with this talk of Myrsol Emulsion (more balm or milk than oil) and then your KoS oil, it might be worth experimenting a bit down the track.

Razor: Weber Polished Head on Bulldog Handle
Blade: Personna 'Lab' Blue (3)
Brush: Vintage butterscotch Simpson
Soap/Cream: Vintage Yardley
Aftershave: Herbal by Old Spice Cologne Lotion

Made sure I slapped on some aftershave today - and did it slap me back!

The Herbal must be about 99% alcohol, it certainly has an impact. The scent has staying power though and while I don't think I can describe it I think I like it a lot in a weird kinda way.

Certainly feels much better than being naked!

Soap: B&M Cheshire
Brush: Vie-Long white horse
Razor: Feather AS-D2
Blade: Feather (2)
Post-shave: Burberry Coast Havana splash
Time: 19 mins

I added the time this morning. Would be interested if everyone started doing the same to get a feel for if your shave was rushed/slow and steady. No need for a stop-watch, just a glance at the clock on start and on finish.

Lovely shave this morning. 3 passes plus touch ups. Feeling ready for my weetbix :)

Brush: Omega 49
Blade: Personna Med Prep (1)
Razor: 34c
Soap: MW Cedar and Sage
Post: Thayers, Speick and CK Eternity

Been a while since I gave the persona blue a go (didn't like it much first go round). Still not sure on it and can't really articulate a reason. Just didn't give a comfortable close shave like other blades. Getting great lathers out of the MW, scents I've tried (Jasmine and this) are subtle yet sophisticated, and post shave is good. MW definitely prefers a badger or synthetic, not so much the boar. Got a few new soaps on their way (via snail) and will be interesting to see how they compare and if they knock it out of my top 5.

Razor: Slim
Blade: Vintage Wilkinson Blade
Soap: Yeti Snot
Brush: Omega 10005
A/S: Floid Vigoroso + extra menthol

Couldn't find a P74 quick enough this morning, and didn't fancy a month plus on the same blade so went with an old Wilkie instead.

Oh and in response to @MrT's timing: 12 minutes including a shower.

Now that, @MrT is a very interesting idea. I suspect some of us (myself included) may get a bit of a wake up call from the results though. When I saw your 19 mins I thought "I couldn't match that", and using a Kamisori or a straight I don't think I could yet....

Thanks for a great suggestion, and hopefully a few of our fellow shavers here will get involved and post some results :)

(If you ain't got one of these in your Den you should have this little brush will just amaze and stand tall against any full size Badger)
Icoloniali Shaving Cream ( On loan from Lifes a Peach) Now Lather was easy required a fair bit of water to get it to bloom but it did and did it well, application was good with firm and lustrious cushion, passes were good on a scale of slickness 8.5 out of 10, during the shave found the lather a little tingly on the skin, post feel skin a little dry for me.
Floid Blue A/S I just can't get enough of this stuff love the scent, love the application feel of it.

Shave today out of 10 is a 7.5

Gave this cream a go myself last night. For me it was fantastic. Delightful amount of cooling effect. The real revelation however was a Gillette Rubie I loaded in a FB. Unbelievable! So smooth and sharp !

Emulsion has methylparaben in it. The health effects of parabens are controversial (which should be enough to keep you away - err on the side of caution) but it seems most agree when applied to the skin they make the effects of UV worse. Not something I want to have on my face everyday. Accelerated skin ageing aside, skin cancer is not something I care to make more likely in my life!

Preamble: I have been SR shaving for just over a week.

Yesterday I went for a full three passes with the straight. Took me 45min from start to end including clean up of the bathroom. Today I decided I needed to make my strokes longer, faster, and repeat a pass less, if at all. Two passes & a little clean up today took me 25min! I was surprised!! Still thats 6min short of 19.

Firstly, congratulations @Sxot on your fantastic progress with the straight razor - you have come a long way in a short time :)

Second, thanks for putting Parabens out there. I believe we should all be talking more about the composition of the various products we slather on our faces daily. I think there's a widely held attitude that once you've ditched pressure-pak shaving foam, everything's fine. But as you point out, there are a number of things that have been adopted by shaving product creators from the mainstream cosmetics industry.

Parabens are a good place to start : like most things in life, the argument isn't simple black and white. While there are growing doubts about the longer term impact of Parabens on our health, they are probably a necessary evil until somebody comes up with a better alternative. Parabens are actually employed as preservatives to prevent fungal and microbial growth in cosmetic products that frequently live in the hostile environment of the bathroom, with the associated elevated temperatures and high humidity. The products most at risk are creams, balms and emulsions with their thicker textures. It is quite possible that some of these fungal and/or microbial growths pose a more immediate risk to health than exposure to Parabens. The good news is that many agencies are currently researching replacements for Parabens, driven by consumer demand.

For those who would like a quick top-down on Parabens and their relationship to health, http://www.besthealthmag.ca/best-looks/beauty/parabens-what-are-they-and-are-they-really-that-bad/ will help inform you.

Face Wash : Shower
Pre-Shave : Myrsol Emulsion
Brush : Plisson
Soap : Shaver Heaven - First Anniversary
Razor : Kamisori - Hoshi Tombo
After Shave : Witch Hazel/Aloe Vera spray, LaRoche-Posay Lipikar, Speick AS

Just another great shave....

After doing a thorough prep today, I whipped up a really nice lather from Shaver Heaven's 1st Anniversary soap, albeit with a bit of bad behaviour from the brush  For some reason, the "springiness" of the brush bit me today - in the middle of face lathering I lifted the brush from my face and "sproing!!!" the brush literally snapped back to its resting shape, spattering lather everywhere, including my eye. Ouch. I wonder if mentholated lather stings worse in your eye? I recovered from that as quickly as possible and finished the really enjoyable part without further ado. The Hoshi Tombo Kamisori always delights me with its smooth efficiency. It's such a well mannered shaver that I feel I can do almost anything with it safely, so I do some ATG work in places I wouldn't normally try, because I know I'd draw blood  Two passes saw me beautifully shaved. I went for a big post shave today - first a really liberal spray of Witch Hazel w/ Aloe Vera, then a moisturiser, and finally Speick's really clean smelling AS.

Feeling great, looking groomed - it doesn't get much better, does it?
